Yes, we won this game. And it was a real nail biter coming down to the wire. If it wasn't for our defense, once again, we'd be right back where we were last season. But I would like to address something.

Theres alot of talk about how good Gus Frerotte is, how he's leading our team and playing beyond everyones expectations. To this I say, what? Are we watching the same quarterback?

Dont get me wrong, we've been winning. Which is more then we did under wannstedt and fiedlers reign of terror. But how much of this win is a better quarterback and how much is that we have a better TEAM with better morale and coaching? I think we'd have the same results if we still had Fiedler, because Frerotte has been putting up very fiedler like stats (even Jay had a few good games) and doing what Fiedler did alot of the time, which is not help us win, but certainly not help us lose. Which is what I think Gus Frerotte has done very well. He hasn't helped us lose.

So yes, Im grateful that we've been winning and I'm avoiding all eye contact with the horses mouth. However, I think we should realize that nearly every throw Frerotte let loose was way over the recievers heads, way behind, or nowhere even near them. Because of amazing players like Chris Chamers (who has to struggle for every pass he gets, making incredible catches because thats the only ones thrown his way. He wouldnt have to stretch out to Mars if the QB could throw to his chest) Frerottes stats are boosted. But the guy is not a superstar. In fact, I wouldn't put too much trust in gus everyone, because it wouldnt suprise me in the least if he becomes the dud everyones always known he's been.

Regardless, we need a real QB next year. Hooray for the draft, or free agency (drew breeeees pleeeeeease) and lets keep winning. As long as Gus doesnt throw a pick 6, ill be passified. But we NEED a REAL qb if we're gonna be the superbowl contending beast that we know we almost are.

Well we didn't score once on Defense did we? So, I'd say 27 points against the Panthers D was still a pretty good offensive performance.

Gus is not a future QB. I dont think there are alot of people putting stock into Frerrote for the next 5 years. But Gus is getting the job done by throwing the ball away when nothing is there! He doesnt give a damn about his stats, he cares about getting the W.

i like gus...he is playing smart...kinda wish we had griese tho in a way

You mean, Gus is playing exactly like Fielder did and the fans don't care because his last name isn't Fiedler?

I agree with the slogan of its not that hes good its that hes not horrible. I am looking for a game manager and not a superstar.

Hardly any of his throws are accurate. Most of his deep balls are way past the receiver. One of these misplaced throws is going to land in the defenses hands, and then everyones gonna call for Frerottes head.

Here we go again! We beat a very good team, a team that made Tom Brady look like Minnie Mouse. And we are going to start nick picking again?

As long as we keep winning Im happy. I dont really care about stats. Ill just take the W. But I would like to see a more productive QB in order to be successful in the playoffs. Overall I am content with Ferotte's play, but Im sure we all know he is not the QB of our future. So sit back and enjoy the win.

Oh, im sorry if i wont blindly accept a win and forget the problems we faced during the game. God forbid we try to get any better. Lets just accept that we squeaked out a win in the last minute of the game and move on.

Oh wait. Thats not what good teams do.

No, when there wasn't anything there for Fiedler he'd throw an INT. When there isn't anything there for Frerotte, he throws it awy so that the other team can't get it.

The difference might seem small but it isn't. Frerotte has 2 or 3 int's to date? Fiedler would have about 6 by now. That's enough to have turned one or both of those W's into an L.

no, not at all. Jay would have had three picks for six by now. You could count on <them> calling the out pattern in desperation in the fourth quarter and Jay would give it away.

Gus is a stop-gap for sure, so his overall stats are really inconsequential. But in the meantime, he's helping us win by making enough big plays, and really minimizing those backbreaking plays that we've become so accustomed to since Dan the Man hung 'em up.

Gus is NOT throwing a pick returned for a TD every other game. Gus is NOT fumbling away the ball in the red zone. Gus is NOT throwing a pick when driving for points late in the game. Gus is NOT taking bad sacks. In some ways, he's exactly what Wanny always wanted from Feebler - except Linahan and Saban are actually using him to make plays as well.

Gus may complete 50-55 percent of his passes, but he'll make enough plays w/ those to be successful this year and - possibly - next. And he'll keep us in the game by not killing us w/ mistakes. I think this is the reason people are considering him "good" to this point. Basically, he's much better than the bad we dealt w/ for five years!

Wrong, that's what good teams do, they find a way to win!
