2005 Training Camp Roster!

Yeah I was just looking over it.....some interesting tidbits:
1. The Oline has beefed up to Houck's liking. I noticed Rodney Reed is listed at 305 up from 290 and Cook is 325.
2. DT Josh Shaw is listed at 305 up from 290. May not sound like much but for DT/NT in Saban's system you have to be bigger.
3. Somebody has got to step up in our TE depth chart.
4. Anyone else notice how heavy some of our DEs are. Especially our UDFA rookies Vann Brown and Chris Solomona. I would look for one of these guys to make the PS.

they had bua listed as saftey, wonder if he can pull any miracles in camp??Damn i cant wait for the season to start its gonna be special this year, iam positive that we will make the playoffs

Wow, i just got really excited.

At first glance, heres what sticks out:

I. DB's: Last year we kept 4-5 DB's active for most of the season. At the moment, we only have seven cornerbacks total on the roster - two of which (Shirdonya Mitchell & Will Poole) will likely not play this year. That means all the remaining healthy DB's should make the final 53:

1) Travis Daniels CB 6-1 192 R LSU
2) Mario Edwards CB 6-0 190 6 Florida State
3) Reggie Howard CB 6-0 185 6 Memphis
4) Sam Madison CB 5-11 180 9 Louisville
5) Alphonso Roundtree CB 5-10 190 2 Tulane

If even one of these guys goes down from in Training Camp, we wont have enough CB's for the opening day roster. IM guessing that we will add additional DB's along the way. Otherwise,

II. DT's:

We have a ton of players here of all shapes and sizes. Saban completely revamped this unit. My big sleeper in this bunch is Vann Brown, a former USC DE with freakish athletic ability. Vickerson, Romero and even Larry Chester are not sure things to make the team.

III. Special Temas What, no Wes Welker?

I am surprised at the amount of safeties, we got more safeties than CB . If we get Schulters here, I would start wondering if Bell, Bua or Bigbi make the team at all.

Last year we kept five safeties. These year we have nine on the roster.

Chris Akins S 5-11 200 7 Ark.-Pine Bluff
Yeremiah Bell S 6-0 200 2 Eastern Kentucky
Atari Bigby S 5-11 205 R Central Florida
Tony Bua S 5-11 218 2 Arkansas
Abram Elam S 6-0 205 R Kent State
Jack Hunt S 6-0 195 R LSU
Tebucky Jones S 6-2 218 8 Syracuse
Billy Parker S 6-0 195 1 William & Mary
Travares Tillman S 6-1 205 5 Georgia Tech

Bell, Tillman, Jones and Bua (Special Teams) are the incumbents with the most experience. Of the remining guys, it would be hard to imagine Saban taking more than one "project", especially since 3rd and 4th string safties see the field quite often in the NFL. If thats the case, the last spot will be a dogfight between:

- Bigby (hometown guy)
- Elam (ex Notre Dame with checkered past)
- Parker (AFL INT leader)
- Hunt (LSU Alum)

IMO Akins will have a tough time if Bua outplays him on special teams. If Saban wants the fifth safety to be more of a FS (and not a SS), Billy Parker seems like more of a ballhawk and may surprise.

Ah, the speculation :)

very observative.nice.thanks for pointing it out

Alabi didn't look anywhere near 315 during camps.

Did anyone else notice that Kevin Carter is listed as a DT?

Our starting D-line will look like:

DE: Jason Taylor
DT: Keith Traylor
DT: Kevin Carter
DE: Vonnie Holliday/Matt Roth/David Bowens.

Who said our D line is a weakness???
