It's only fair that Nick gets some time to rebuild the Dolphins. Looking ahead to 2006 there are some interesting college players to keep an eye on.

Given all the variables, my early wish list:

#1 M. Leinart QB/USC (1st Round)
#5 V. Young QB/Texas
#6 O. Jacobs QB/Bowling Green

#15 D. Feguson T/Virginia
#16 M. McNeill T/Auburn
#29 A. Whitworth T/LSU (2nd Round)
#41 M. Jean Gilles G/Georgia

So Cal studs at wide out:
#85 D. Jarrett WR/USC (soph) (3rd Round)
#90 S. Smith WR/USC

Be advised I retain the right to change my mind at least 50 times before 2006

Can we please focus on 2005, I mean opening day is 19 days away, we're undefeated, and we have people already looking to April.

I know its way early. The NFL never ends, you gotta plan ahead.

Unless Leinart gets injured or has an off year, I don't think we will be in a position to nab him next year (unfortunately). I see us getting 6-7 wins, which should keep us from picking in the top three. I also see Saban trying to trade down a couple spots to avoid the type of cap hit that could hamstring us for years to come.
There should be an early run on the talented crop of tackles in the first round, and I think we'll probably be in on that. Hopefully an Omar Jocobs or Chris Leak is still available in the second (due to an Orton effect). After that it should be BPA, and I really hope that some safeties and defensive tackles fall into that category.

Doesn't bother me....hope we go after Omar Jacobs. Something to look forward too. :)

:rofl3: :rofl3: :rofl3:

yes, he may be the 85th ranked player in college football, but when Jarrett declares he wont be going in round 3...

draft talk is for after the season, not before..

Personally I rather look towards the future as the Fins aint gonna do squat in 2005. We arent going to do anything until the O-Line is fixed properly and we get a STARTING QB of our own instead of looking for Redskins Hand-me-downs, as 2 of them will probably make the team this year.

there's nothing wrong with talking about the next draft...no matter the time of the year....it football...Dolphins football...so it's appropriate any time!

on that note.....As Monkeydog writes...If some of the underclassmen QBs come out there could be some talent that drops to us because we'll have around 8 wins next year.

Unless we trade up, I don't think we'll be seing Leinhart in Aqua (or Teal for the picky folks  )

With OT being so deep, an area that EVERY team tries to upgrade whenever possible, 3 LBs possibly going very high in Chad Greenway, Ahmad Brooks, and AJ Hawk, DT being thin at the top so people will try to jump on Ngata, Rod Wright, and the Watson guy from Michigan, as well as a couple DEs in Mario Williams and Kiwi, Safeties Bing (a monster) and the 6-3 210lb FS from Ohio St.-Nate Salley (who I like a lot) then a guy like Omar Jacobs could have a legitamate chance of dropping to us...Of course it's early but we could even see Reggie Bush come out early and he'll go in the top 5 (or at least should, as he's the most "exciting" RB I've seen since Marshall Faulk was at SDDU and even Barry Sanders at OSU before that (Damn Bush is fun to watch...I still think he should have gotten the Heismann last year.)

So it's possible that Jacobs falls, depending of course on how far down we do end up drafting.

It's sad to say this but, I wish that we had the #2 pick overall this coming year because this next draft will have the ubere-talented players that last seasons draft was lacking at the very top.

Of note....most people know that my favorite positions are S and TE so even though I like McMichael if he decides that he wants a king's ransom or hits his wife again (whether she help cause it or not) I've already got his replacement scouted out....Mercedes Lewis 6-5 250lbs from UCLA EDIT: i've been told that his name's spelled with an "a" instead of an "e" after the M..sorry about that...oh and I was also told it's not a cool name, so I'll take that comment back. ...not only does he have an ultra cool name  , he's a heck of a player. If you get a chance, try to catch a UCLA game this coming season and you'll see what I'm talking about...he should be a mid-late 1st rounder but could slip into the second....While you're watching Lewis, also check out S Jarrad Page on their Defense. He's another guy who'll be there in the second and might even drop into the 3rd if we got very very lucky. He's also a player just not quite in the Bing, Nate Salley and Mike Huff (Texas) catagory but he's not far behind either. Or if we wanted to go right back to Georgia for another big TE talent, JR Leo Pope 6-7, 250 is going to be a good one also.

As for Centers...an area we sorely need if we keep Hadnot at G....there are some good ones : Mike Degory 6-5, 310bls from FLA is the top cat there. Although Eslinger 6-3 285 from Minn and another Raiola, Dominic 6-3, 280 from Wisconsin are both very good as well. Is it me or does figgin Wis. ALWAYS have good interior lineman? them and michigan who've got Gs Lemtz 6-6 315, one of the tops at the G postion inthe country and Leo Henige 6-4 330 and also C-Rueben Riley and then Mich also has undclassmen Jake Long 6-7, 340 (damn! they just keep restocking)

Anyway...there's a ton more but I just realized that I made this post pretty long already even though I left out a bunch of other top guys (mostly underclassmen likeChis Leak,TE Matt Herrian-Nebraska 6-5 240, TE Joel Klopfenstein, 6-5, 245, Colorado whos an H-Back, Vince Young, who could honestly drop to late 1st round if his passing doesn't improve. He's starting to get a Vick reputation...you know superb freak-like athelete who's going to need work on his passing ). As the college season progesses I'll post from time to time on what some of the top prospects (at the postions we'll be needing on the Phins) are doing.

later

addition: wow, I just read on a draft site that there "could' be 15-20 OTs with 1st day ratings next year. Of course that means that ALL the good juniors would have to come out which they likely won't since they'd have a better chance at going higher in the draft if they'd wait until 2007 when there aren't as many elite big uglies. Interesting none the less.

Sorry, I just have to throw this out there...this guy is JR OG from Fresno State...he's not bad but likely won't come out next season but he's got an ultra cool name (I know "cool name" is goofy but it's very very early and I haven't been to sleep yet so please bear with me)......Dartagnon Shack.....come on...that's a cool name, it almost sounds like a friggin screen name or something.

Lewis' name isn't that cool... it's Marcedes Lewis.

oh, really, M"A"R? I didn't realize that but I guess that's a touch more masculine than mercedes with an "E"?
