The 2006 Cap Page will be up in a few days. I just wanted to touch base and give ya a quickie  update

As of 2/12/06, I have the Fins $8,262,947 OVER an estimated salary cap of $93,500,000 with $2,455,741 "dead cap". This number is adjusted for top 51.

One point: all teams are still awaiting the official "unadjusted" salary cap and each teams cap adjustment that will give each team their own "adjusted" salary cap. This info will become available in the next couple of weeks

Just a couple of points because of the presence of an "uncapped" 2007:

1) There is NO June 1st rule in 2006. A player released or traded at any time in 2006, ALL remaining proration accelerates onto 2006 cap.

2) NLTBE's incentives earned in 2006 automatically become LTBE's and count on 2006 cap at time player achieves the incentive...thus, teams will need to keep cap space available for this possibility

If NFLPA & League reach new CBA deal, then, this is likely moot and there will be new rules for us all to learn

Cool, Clump. Hope to see you around more often...

Can you give us a rough estimate what our position will be if we make expected cuts (Tebucky Jones, McCintosh, etc)?

thx :)

i am not too much up on the cap, but cutting madison, howard, t. jones, and seau will save approximately 13 mil. mcintosh i under 2 mil and j. james is 3.5 mil. (approx).

everyone thinks howard will be cut, but he is almost cheaper to keep than cut because of the signing bonus he got

I think Jeno James is going to be a surprise cut if he doesn't restructure. I don't think Saban wants to pay a 75th percentile guard 3.5 million a year.

You can bet that the first order of business this offseason was grading each player in relation to his salary. With the salary cap in place, each player's "salary to productivity ratio" should be the biggest thing going in the NFL these days.

Number one, obviously you don't want to pay a guy at a level that isn't commensurate with his productivity or the supply and demand dynamics of his position. Number two, and this is more subtle -- you can create dissension in the locker room by paying guys more than other guys who produce more.

I'll even bet that Saban has some kind of formula or algorithm for it.

I'll have the page up later on today. :)

i don't think james at 3.5 mil will be too big iof a surprise cut wihout erstructuring or something.

True with Howard.

Madison being cut would save half of his 6 million, however Tebucky Jones being cut would save over 6 mil against the cap.

If Gus does not restructure, cutting him would save 4 million.
