Miami's 2006 schedule looks favorable.
  • 2006 Strength of Schedule (SOS) = 27th place
  • Opponent's winning percentage = 46.9% http://www.theredzone.org/strength.asp
  • # games vs. 2005 non-losing teams (8+ wins) = 8
  • # games vs. 2005 playoff teams = 5
Compare to the 2005 results:
  • Opponent's winning percentage = 45.7%
  • # games vs. 2005 non-losing teams (8+ wins) = 8
  • # games vs. 2005 playoff teams = 5
This is the first time in several years that Miami had a relatively weak schedule going into the next season. Combine this with the expected improvement of talent via free agency, draft, and one year of experience under the Saban system, the record next year should improve to 10+ wins.

its mostly considered weak because our division wasn't that good this year...

usually if your in a strong division, your schedule will look harder cause you play all those people 2 times...

i mean houston looks like they had the sickest schedule, but its because they play indy (14-2) and jax (12-4) 2 times each... thats 52-12 winning percentage mixed in just from those 2 teams...

the fact that the pats were only 10-6 and the jets and bills were so bad will have our schedule looking weak this offseason... just like last year it looked strong because the year before the jets and bills were good

The strength of schedule statistic does reflect how weak our division is. However, I would rather play the Bills and Jets twice, than the Jags and Colts.

maybe jags and colts have nice looking streaks because they play VS texans and the Titans 2 times each

Teams get better and worse every year. I think the SOS is overrated. We went from 4-12 to 9-7, Bears got better, Packers got worse.

It's a toss up

Very true. SOS is a filler farce that takes up time in the offseason. It means nothing and I can tell you first hand that the linesmakers and oddsmakers and their firms don't evaluate SOS for one minute during the season. It's only used when making up season over/under wins, simply because the bettors overreact to SOS so the linesmakers need to be aware of the general impression that Team A will face a weak schedule next season while Team B has an apparently tough one.

The NFL is incredibly balanced plus you never know the state of the team when you face them. Green Bay gets credit for beating Seattle in the SOS evaluation category even though it was obviously a meaningless game that Seattle didn't care about.

I need to see what happens in buffalo and NY before i say anything...

Does streghth of schedule fluctuate during the season? In college it does, that way, if you beat a top ten team at the beginning of the season, and that team does poorly the rest of the season, that victory does not do squat for your streghth of schedule, even though they may have been #5 at the time your team beat them.

2005 stats mean squat in 2006, I don't care what teams records were this year they won't be the same next year. This is just something to talk about and has no real bearing on next season. IMO.
