Footballoutsiders has the grades from several sources and interestingly Miami was included as one of the teams where there was the most disagreement.

"“Passing on Brady Quinn was ridiculous.†Mel Kiper does not mince words. He’s referring, of course, to Miami’s decision to draft Ohio State WR Ted Ginn over Quinn, which seemed to be enough for about half of our panel to give the Fins an extremely low grade, from F to D+. ESPN’s SportsNation poll, open to anyone with internet access, failed them. My roommate, both a Dolphins and Buckeyes fan, actually shrieked when NFL Commission Roger Goodell announced the pick. What shocked me is how high the other half of the experts are on the selections. War Room Experts gave the Fins a perfect score, an A+. Seriously. They think Ginn, BYU QB John Beck, and Hawaii C Samson Satele are starters. Pierson adds praise for the rest of their picks: Utah DT Paul Soliai, Syracuse LB Kelvin Smith, and Colorado DE Abraham Wright, calling them the “backbone of a superb second day.†Pierson and Prisco weren’t quite so high, giving out Bs, but both feel that Beck is a quality QB and that although Ginn is not a top-ten pick, he’s a good player. Finally, Dr. Z thinks his grade, a B-, may end up being far too low, because Beck is a “Jeff Garcia type with a better arm.†I’m surprised to find myself drifting to the optimistic camp. Most of the experts agree that Miami picked good prospects with most of their picks. If they didn’t have to pay ninth-pick money to Ginn, this draft would have tremendous upside potential."

This part here is just dumb. The Dolphins would have had to pay the same amount of money to ANYBODY they drafted with the #9 pick. It would have been worse to pay Brady Quinn that money when he would be sitting the bench for most of next season. At least Ted Gin Jr. is going to contribute right away.

Secondly, who cares if you pay Ginn #9 money and Beck #40 money or Quinn #9 money and Jarrett/Meachem #40 money? It all adds up the same.

Lastly, the Dolphins couldn't have traded down to select Ginn with a midround pick to save money. It's been said many times that Houston or St. Louis was going to select him with their upcoming picks.

i really cant wait for the season... its gonna be hilarious when all this Ginn bashers will suddenly be on his side when hes having a great rookie year...

It is laughable to give any team a grade at this point. Some players are going to be busts and some will be studs. Until that comes out all grades are meaningless. Just from a logical standpoint I like the Ginn/Beck combination better than Quinn/?. I'm still not sold on Quinn.

Ginn can contribute on special teams (IF HEALTHY, AND THAT'S A BIG IF RIGHT NOW), but I would not expect much at WR for a year.

Kiper thinks he's bigger than the draft...

But he's just a big blowhard that is all about selling subscriptions and espn insider. For the record we weren't the only team that passed on Quinn and I think that most nfl gms know what they are doing, definitely more that Kiper. Quinn might be a big name, but I think Miami picked the players that were best for Miami.

Go back and look at who Kiper picked as the best DE's in the 1997 draft--I think there were 5 or 6 in the first round and JT went at #74 in the 4th round. I'll bet Kiper did a retraction after the draft and said how wrong he was to not put JT in the top 10...yeah right! Idiot.

Houston was definitely going to take him with their #10 pick. I heard Adam S. on NFL network stating that fact feverishly.

Ginn is explosive and was easily the best offensive prospect left on the board at #9 OR #10.

Don't tell me "Brady Quinn" because guess what he wasn't taken until #22. Theres a reason 12 more teams passed on him after we did. If one of those teams saw great potential in him, why not draft him and groom him for the future? Instead he slipped very far.

Whats dumb is, if they supposedly reached for Ginn at 9, who we now know was going at number 10 if we didn't pick him, then wouldn't Quinn have been a bigger reach at 9? Since he actually went in the 20's?

Good point. The only reason the Mel Kipers are saying Brady 'fell' is because they had him over valued on their boards.

Dude he is a PR. Name 1 other PR that is getting paid like Ginn. We gave up Welker who is a cheap and healthy PR for a Ginn who is an injured, unproven and very expensive PR.

Not really because nobody after us needed a QB. Cleveland gave up their first round for next year to get him. That move of letting Quinn slip past us is going to sting later.

Steve Smith is one of the best WR in the game right now and he is a slower Teddy Ginn. LOL. Now I'm not saying I would take Ginn over Smith as of right now but wait until he has come into his own in this league and he will be a force.

Ginn is like Santa Moss, Steve Smith, Reggie Bush, and Devin Hester rolled into one person. Of course you think I am a homer, because I am, but I have been saying this about Ginn way before we drafted him.

Not every player drafted starts at his position, but those who have greatness in them eventually transition.

:shakeno:

You are really trippin if you think Welker's skills are comparable to Ginn's.

You are trippin if you think an injured Ginn is worth that kind of money. There was nothing wrong with Wes. He has worked hard and proven himself to be a good 3rd WR and PR. Now we have a guy that is hurt and hasn't proven anything in the NFL. And he's costing us a fortune. I just don't see the logic.

I don't know dude, I didn't see anything that would warrant the move we made with Wes and then picking Ginn to fill his spot. It was a personal decision to draft him, not a professional decision. That's just how I see it.
