I was looking at a list of 2007 Free Agents, the Phins could immediately improve this club with this class.

QB Matt Schaub, RFA, ATL
RB Michael Turner, RFA, SD

OT Max Starks, RFA, Pit
OT Leonard Davis, UFA, Arz
OT Mike Gandy, UFA, Buf
OL Nat Dorsey, RFA, Clev
OG Chris Gray, UFA, Sea

DE Dwight Freeney, UFA, Indy
DE Jared Allen, RFA, KC
DT Darnell Dockett, RFA, Ariz
DT Vonnie Holliday, UFA, Miami

OLB Lance Briggs, UFA, Chi
OLB Na'il Diggs, UFA, Car
LB Cato June, UFA, Indy
OLB Adalius Thomas, UFA, Bal

CB Nate Clements, UFA, Buf
CB Asante Samuel, UFA, NE (young and cheap)
S Tyrone Carter, UFA, Pit
S John Lynch, UFA, Den
S Lance Schulters, UFA

Looks like a pretty good list of guys that could immediately upgrade our O and D. We need to make some serious cap room by cutting loose Zgonina, Spragan, a few of those OL scrubs, Holliday, Carter, and try to come in with a young group mixed w/ new-younger free agents players. There's really no excuse not to improve for next season. This draft looks pretty solid as well, especially at QB.

We dont need Schaub or Turner...but if i was Saban, id release Zgonina, Spragan, Traylor may retire, and id also get rid of Booker and Chambers (not enough effort)...if i was coach and i had the cap room, i would sign:

Max Starks OT
Chris Gray OG

Lance Briggs OLB
Cato June OLB

Asante Samuels or Nate Clements CB

Now we definetely dont have the money...but im sure we could cut some players, restructure some contracts...and sign Starks, Gray, Briggs and Samuels.

I dont know Gray very well, but he comes from Seattle so he must be good.

if we could pick up Samuel, Davis/Starks, and Thomas, I'd be thrilled. Those are 3 pretty solid guys to plug major holes on our team.

we should make a run for davis, even if its to put him back at his natural guard spot. briggs is also going to command big bucks. but it would be nice to land another big name player this offseason.

I have a good excuse. There is this little nuiscence in the NFL called a cap, and the phins aren't going to be that far under it. They will go through the annual ritual of re-structuring contracts but there just isn't much they can do to get significant cap room. Unless you want a good three years of rebuilding, this is the foundation that needs to be built upon.

well yeah man, our season is practically over. we lost to HOUSTON, we barely beat Tennessee. we ARE the worst team in the league.

so we cut Chambers (not enough effort :rolleyes2 ) and replace him with nobody??

yeah what an improvement

yeah what an improvement

Of course not, we'll snap our fingers and magically replace him with a future HOFer. Same for the QB position.

another cb being overlooked is Nathan Vasher...i would love to pick him up ..that is if we cant get Nate Clements

good intentions...bad ideas

ok, so you named some really good players, but almost all of these players for some reason or another wont be on our team. lets go down the list...

QB Matt Schaub, RFA, ATL...would cost us a third rounder
RB Michael Turner, RFA, SD...would cost us a third rounder

OT Max Starks, RFA, Pit...would cost us first and third probably, or they would match the offer
OT Leonard Davis, UFA, Arz...30 yrs old, basically the same as lj shelton, huge guy who never lived up
OT Mike Gandy, UFA, Buf...no thanks
OL Nat Dorsey, RFA, Clev...cost us third rounder
OG Chris Gray, UFA, Sea...will be resigned most likely...or will command huge dollars next year, like kyle kosier g now with dallas, exactly you didnt know his name but he got a huge deal

DE Dwight Freeney, UFA, Indy...will be resigned
DE Jared Allen, RFA, KC...they will match any offer, very least 1st and 3rd
DT Darnell Dockett, RFA, Ariz...3rd rounder
DT Vonnie Holliday, UFA, Miami...later you say get rid of him?

OLB Lance Briggs, UFA, Chi...somebody is going to give him contract like will witherspoon got last year...
OLB Na'il Diggs, UFA, Car...no thanks
LB Cato June, UFA, Indy...doesnt fit the system
OLB Adalius Thomas, UFA, Bal...he's great choice, but he will be 30, do you want to give him a 5 yr 30 million dollar deal, also breakout season in his contract year...but other than that, great fit...

CB Nate Clements, UFA, Buf...he will get top 3 in the league money, if charles woodson got paid big bucks, i would expect clements to get 10 million a year
CB Asante Samuel, UFA, NE (young and cheap)...another great fit system wise, but the patriots are going to be 20 million under the cap, so he is probably going to resigned
S Tyrone Carter, UFA, Pit...wouldnt start on this team
S John Lynch, UFA, Den...way past his prime, doesnt fit system
S Lance Schulters, UFA...same as lynch

sorry, i didnt mean to bash you anyway, because you had good intentions, but i only thought that two of these would be realistic.

Dude, Chris Gray was once a dolphin and he WILL NOT command big dollars. He is old and is not that good.

Personally, Max Starks is interesting but that depends on the level of RFA he is. Second, I would not mind Briggs but he will command big bucks and there are questions about his attitude, plus he plays behind a strong defensive line and next to Urlacher. I don't want to rule him out, but we need to think about the context of his surrounding cast. I like Clements and Asante Samuel.

Again, you will need to think outside the box here. I think Clements is worth the money myself. Perhaps Samuel too. Otherwise, the overwhelming majority of those guys are not worth much.

Not like it's much compensation but 1-3 is better then 0-4. See Cleveland, Tennessee and Oakland
