2009 East-West Shrine Game rosters

might be interesting to watch, but it's not a very important game for the seniors.
Tell that to Kendall Langford who was a standout at last year's game and caught the eye of Jeff Ireland and Bill Parcell.

- Western Illinois LB Jason Williams… certainly passes the eye-test with flying colors, well-defined upper-body, little tight in the hips when dropping back into coverage, but he flies to the ball and shows an extra burst of closing speed in the open field.

He went to school where i do. i think he will have a good game sat.

This is an extremely important game. One year ago Donald Thomas and Kendall Langford both made their mark all over this game en route to earning starting jobs. Go back further, and Marques Colston whipped everyone in front of him en route to a Pro Bowl caliber rookie season with the Saints.

I tell you what. In this game you had better be keeping your eyes on the following ten players from each squad (roughly in order of importance):

West
77 Jamon Meredith OL 6’5 301 South Carolina
33 Dannell Ellerbe LB 6’1 232 Georgia
27 Don Carey DB 6’1 180 Norfolk State
29 Bradley Fletcher DB 6’2 200 Iowa
89 Brian Mandeville TE 6’7 253 Northeastern
78 Ramon Foster OL 6’8 325 Tennessee
92 Matt Shaughnessy DL 6’6 253 Wisconsin
52 Jasper Brinkley LB 6’2 275 South Carolina
8 Brandon Underwood DB 6’1 190 Cincinnati
6 Curtis Taylor DB 6’3 204 LSU

East
90 Jarron Gilbert DL 6’6 280 San Jose State
81 Jarett Dillard WR 5’11 185 Rice
6 Jason Williams LB 6’3 235 Western Illinois
21 Ryan Mouton DB 5’10 180 Hawaii
2 Ryan Palmer DB 5’10 186 Texas
1 Manuel Johnson WR 6’0 183 Oklahoma
10 Mike Thomas WR 5’8 195 Arizona
76 Ray Feinga OL 6’5 331 BYU
79 Sebastian Vollmer OL 6’8 315 Houston
19 Sammie Stroughter WR 6’0 186 Oregon State

There are more, of course. My list is actually more like 30 players, with of course my eyes open for someone I didn't expect...but these players have really caught eyes one way or the other during practice or they're just someone I really liked during the season.

And yes, Woody. Your boy definitely makes the cut. :)

I'd add to the list of players to watch...

WR's Marko Mitchell and Aaron Kelly (can one of these two be our mid-late round replacement for Wilford?)

Safties Darcel McBath and Courney Greene (can't see us coming out of this draft without a free safety or a corner/freesafety tweener)

OL Louis Vasquez and Fenuki Tupou (some big, nasty guards worth a look in the middle rounds)

Orton is top of my list here. He TOASTED Jenkins of OSU (everybody loves Jenkins as a 1st rounder - overrated IMO)...well Orton had him for lunch...

Gano...yes the kicker...watch him...I want him in the 7th...

Shaughnessy caught my eye in a couple of games...
Ellerbe for Georgia looks good...
Francois for BC...(though I would rather have Herzlich or McLaughlin as an LB from BC)

Aaron Kelly (Have notes on him) (#80) Clemson 6'5" 190- Clemson Good adjustment on an underthrow for a TD. Great turn-around adjustment for a TD in the bowl game. Doesn't seem to be able to break tackles. Needs more strength. Beanpole. Dropped a big one on a slant that was really needed...bad throw.... OK...just made up for it with a huge catch in last 2 minutes at the 10. (6th round)

FS Lendy Holmes (Have notes on him) (#11) 6'1" 201 Oklahoma - Good open field tackler, good in coverage, INT, this guy looks pretty darn good...just smacked a guy to make him drop what was a completion...OK...he makes the cut...

Gartrell Johnson...had some 295 yards in his bowl game...will be good to see again...

Chase Daniel sucks IMO...

There are others that have made my lists...but only on the bad lists...(had to mention Daniel though because he really sucks...)

Thanks man...Didnt even realise this was on.

It wont be on ESPN down here in Australia, but I'll try and find it on the net somewhere.

If people could post any thoughts after the game it would be appreciated.

In addition to a few of the names already mentioned I'll be interested to see how Texas' Roy Miller (DT) goes. He caught my eye in the game against OSU the other day.

Enjoy!

Orton is top of my list here. He TOASTED Jenkins of OSU (everybody loves Jenkins as a 1st rounder - overrated IMO)...well Orton had him for lunch...

6 catches, 73 yards, 0 TD, Long of 20 yards
10 catches, 91 yards, 0 TD, Long of 18 yards

That's a pretty loose definition of "toasted".

(Not saying Orton isn't worth a look late in the draft or that Jenkins isn't a bit overrated, but the numbers don't show Jenkins getting toasted by Orton... if Jenkins was even on Orton for all 73 yards)

You had to see the game. The play was a fade in the red zone that Orton went up over Jenkins and took the ball to the 2. Should have been a TD, but he stepped out. Made Jenkins look pretty bad...

It made me really look at Jenkins for the rest of the game...and a couple others...I was not impressed. So, it may not be that Orton is as impressive...as Jenkins is NOT.

it's also in that game that samuel giguere, a WR from sherbrooke, QC, got noticed by the colts and was signed... i don't think there are any canadians though in this game... i haven't checked the roster ... not that you guys should care lol but i'm pointing it out to all my canadian fin fans ;)

watch Victor Butler, LB, Oregon St., he's been a monster this year and I have high hopes for him and also DE/LB Phillip Hunt from Houston. (lead nation in sacks)

The game is set to kick off on ESPN2 right now!!!!!!!!!!!
