I think this is obvious...this is a loaded defensive class. We have several areas we need to address: DT, S, WR, LB, and RB.

I feel as if are weakest area was our secondary. Unfortunately, Eric Berry will not be available at the #12 spot. I feel encouraged by Vontae Davis and Sean Smith as they both showed signs of potential. Having one season now under their belt, they should be able to pull their own weight.

We can all agree we do not have a number 1 receiver. Our guys are a collection of #2 to #3 receivers. Dez Bryant may be available at the 12 spot but I'm thinking we would be much better off grabbing a receiver in the free agent market. Burleson, Antonio Bryant, and possibly Brandon Marshall may be available. I read somewhere on ESPN that apparently Marshall and the Broncos owner are now on the same page. Indicating that he will be in Denver come next season.

Many people will probably disagree with me here, but I woulnd't be dissapointed if we were able to take CJ Spiller in the first round. Ronnie Brown is injury-plagued..Ricky Williams has about one more good season left in him. He looked much like Adrian Peterson towards the end of the season, not the good A.P. who is an overall dynamic player, but rather, the one who suffers from a major condition of fumbilitis.

With the soon to be announced departure of Joey Porter, LB will be another area of interest. Most Dolphins fans are in favor of Rolando Mcclain. He's a stud pick and should be there at 12. Channing Crowder is apparently back in good grace with Tony Sporano after hosting the intiial blasting of Sporano by Joey Porter on the radio. Who knows where he'll be come the 2010 season.

To wrap things up. I think we address our WR needs in the Free Agent market, afterall it takes a couple seasons under a receiver's belt to fully adjust to the NFL and make an impact. I would love Eric Berry, as he would make an immediate impact in our secondary. It would be difficult to say he would be there at 12 harbouring all of that talent but crazier things have happened...see 2005 draft when Alex Smith went No. 1 overall and Aaron Rodgers fell to Packers.

Rolando Mcclain will most likely be the guy we take in the first round. I say draft D all the way through the 7th round. What do you guys think?

I think we should grab b. Graham im the first, nate allen in the second and cam thomas, jimmy grahm in the forth and blont in the 6th while picking up dansby in FA

1.) I think we'd be better off filling LB needs in FA and the WR1 need in the draft.

I say this b/c...

a.) Nate Burleson is the suck - much worse than our guys and clearly not a WR1.

b.) Antonio Bryant is okay, ho-hum, as a WR1 when/if healthy but he didn't get along well at all with Tuna when in DAL.

c.) Brandon Marshall will cost a 1st round and 3rd round pick i.e.) franchise-tag-n-trade. Yes Pat Bowlen recently made comments that Marshall "could" stay but he said the same thing about Cutler right before Cutler left. Marshall will be dealt but the price will be too steep for us. Look for the Pats to give up their 3rd and a conditional 2011 1st (they have an extra 2011 1st).

d. and e.) Anquan Boldin and Miles Austin - You didn't mention these guys but they'll also be too expensive. Look for Boldin to BAL for a 2nd+ and Austin to be signed long term in DAL.

f.) TO - he'll be a FA available pretty cheap but about the farthest you could get from a "Parcells guy".

g.) LBs - although some LBs like Shawn Merriman will be RFAs, I think there could be a couple of guys who will be UFAs and would be nice fits here. Specifically; Karlos Dansby (age 29) and Scott Fujita (age 30).

Signing a couple of solid veteran LBs would take some pressure off of us in case Rolando McClain doesn't make it to 1.12.

2.) I think we could offset the risk of going into the draft needing a WR1 by signing a veteran receiving TE in FA. Specifically; Ben Watson (age 29). Tony Scheffler and Owen Daniels are RFAs but I believe Watson is an UFA.

3.) We won't be able to fix our NT or FS problems in FA. I say this b/c...

a.) Wilfork, Hampton, Franklin, Pickett and Jolly will all be franchised or signed long term.

b.) I don't think Tuna will go to Phins owner Stephen Ross to ask for big $ for another FS just one year after asking for big $ for Gibril Wilson.

4.) I agree with you that we should trade Ronnie and if we do, Spiller could make sense.

5.) I don't agree with you that McClain is likely for us at 1.12 b/c I think McClain will be gone by 1.12.

Here's what I think we should do...

FA) Karlos Dansby ILB
FA) Scott Fujita SOLB
FA) Ben Watson TE

1.09.) Dez Bryant WR (via BUF)

#9 pick acquired from BUF for #12, Tyler Thigpen and Ted Ginn, Jr. BUF is looking for OL help so they can afford to move back. We leap frog DEN and JAX to lock up the only WR1 in this draft.

2a.) Terrence Cody NT

Man boobs or not, this guy is a legit 3-4 nose who can anchor. Weight clauses in his contract will make him either less fat, or very economical.

2b.) Nate Allen FS (via HOU)

Extra 2nd round pick from HOU for Ronnie Brown. Nate is easily an upgrade over Gibril Wilson.

3.) Sean Lee ILB

This guy was playing like a ptential 1st round pick before a knee injury. We could take a chance and see if he could push Crowder.

4.) Ben Tate RB

A younger Auburn RB to replace Ronnie.

Phins Re-signed and/or Not-cut

Chad Pennington
Jason Taylor
Jason Ferguson
Davone Bess
Anthony Fasano
Will Allen
Nate Jones

Phins Cut

Joey Porter, Gibril Wilson, Jason Allen, Reggie Torbor, Akin Ayodele

That but keep Allen, leave Penny, forget Watson, Fujita will resign, keep Ronnie, sign Rolle.

I like Jason Allen (kind of) and I know he is solid on STs but his contract is probably too high.

Pennington would be a great backup for Henne, and needed if we dealt Thigpen to BUF (with Ginn) to move up to 1.09 (as I mocked). Pat White should not be 2nd string.

A lot of people have mixed feelings about Ben Watson. If we don't sign him though, we're looking at having to use one of our early picks to get a guy like Aaron Hernandez b/c one way or another, we need more of a receiving threat from the TE spot than what Fasano brings.

Scott Fujita is an UFA on a SB winning team - a prime target to move, but we need to be careful not to overspend.

Ronnie will be gone in 2011 anyway so why not get value for him now?

Like I said in my mock, I don't see Tuna asking ownership to spend big on another FS (like Antrel Rolle) when they just blew all that money on Gibril Wilson. That's like you or me asking for a company car, driving it off a cliff, and then asking for a brand new, more expensive company car.

Allen makes less than our team average. 1.7 a year. I think thats fine, especially if Cobbs cant be the gunner like he was in the past.

Fair enough...and frankly, I'd still like to see JA tried back at FS. He certainly isn't worse than Gibril. I've never seen JA miss tackles the way Gibril (and sometime Sean Smith) did this last season.

So JA gets a stay of execution for now - you convinced me.

1.) Look for Boldin to BAL for a 2nd+ and Austin to be signed long term in DAL.

The Cardinals couldn't get a 3rd+ last year for Boldin and now have Breaston and Doucet opposite Fitzgerald. What makes you think they'll get a 2nd+?

What makes you think they couldn't get better than a 3rd for Boldin last year?

Link?

Rumors have many teams interested in Boldin this year including BAL, JAX, NE, CAR, DET, maybe DEN once they trade away Marshall, and us. I'd imagine there are some others too.

You'd have to assume CLE would want a WR like Boldin and they have an earlier 3rd than ours, as does DET and JAX. What about BUF? They're getting rid of TO and also have an earlier 3rd than us. What about TB and STL?

You really think ARI can't get more than our 3rd?

Might I remind you that Roy Williams went for a 1st, 3rd and 5th and he's only 2-3 younger than Anquan and not as talented.

No team wants to pull an "Al Davis" and trade away a stud WR for a 4th (ala Randy Moss to NE). There's only one "Crazy Al" and he's not the one trading Boldin (unfortunately).
