Similarities-

Started season with new defensive co-ordinator
Young QB's with 1st chance as starting QB in training camp.
4 and 4 record to start season
Comparable QB play
Henne 176 for 277, 1900 yards 8 TD's and 10 Ints, QBR 78.19
RT17 142 for 241, 1762 yards 5 TD's and 6 Ints, QBR 78.19
Comparable Running game 852 (2010) 895 (2012)
Top 10 Rushing defenses

Host The Tennessee Titans in week 9 (We won 29-17 in 2010 to move to 5-4)

Differences-

All new coaching staff, In 2010 Sparano was using his mulligan (it was the d co-ordinators fault bring in Nolan)
2010 Dolphins good in close games 3-1 with only loss coming on Big Ben fumble ripoff game.
2012 Dophins not so good in close games 2-3
2012 Dolphins better in point differential 170-149 as opposed to 143-175 in 2010
2010 Pass defense in top 10 while 2012 pass defense almost last in NFL.
2012 Dolphins better at turnover differential (-2 to -7)

In 2010 we finished 7-9 only winning 2 games after the Tennessee win.
In the second half of the season we were 1-3 in close games losing to Cleveland, Detroit and Buffalo and ending the season at 4-4 in close games.

Can we right the ship and get the close wins to the positive side before the end of the season and how do you think we will finish?

Very scary how similar we are stats wise to that 2010 team that was full of heartache. I'd like to think that with the better coaching we have now, we should be able to do better than 7-9. I think we will finish 9-7 and just miss out on a playoff spot.

I think we won more close games in 2010 due to having a much better running game (and overall much better talent at the position) in 2010 compared to 2012. Our top 10 pass defense in 2010 can be attributed to having Mike Nolan as our D coordinator. We definitely downgraded going from Nolan to Coyle.

Coyle isn't as experienced as Nolan for sure but the 2010 offense was all about TOP and that helped the defense out a lot.

Nolan was more press coverage which fit Vontae and Sean Smith pretty well. Coyle seems to mix it up with press and zone and we've been awful in zone...the communication between the DBs has been pretty bad so far. When Coyle has the DBs play press we do fine. When he has us play zone, like he did against the Colts, we get tore up. I think Coyle had us more in zone looks cause he was worried about Donnie Avery and T.Y. Hilton getting behind the defense...which they did anyway.

Thank you for the information..In my opinion, Sparano and Dan henning ruined Chad Henne, plain and simple. If Chad Henne were drafted in any respectible established franchise I think he would have been a very good starter. My philosophy though is always move forward, never look back..we have Tannehill now, and thats who Ill hang my hat on.

Ahhhh. I cant stand when he goes to zone. He does it in the final two minutes of every half. We'll be tearing it up playing mainly man to man, and then once the we get to the 2 miinute warning, he switches to mainly zone, has the corners play 15 yards off the LOS, and we get torn up...

Scary is henne threw 36 more passes w 34 more completions. We all agree Tannehill is better but QBR gurus should this be a red flag???

Yeah I hate the soft coverages we play at times. You're giving up a first down when you have the corners lining up 10 yards off the LOS and then backpedaling at the snap.

We're going to need different type of corners to run Coyle's defense effectively. Sean Smith and Jimmy Wilson are not good in zone coverage.

I don't think of it as a red flag. Tannehill has thrown 4 less ints and that dirrectly corresponds to the improved turnover differential (-2 to -7)
Most of the rookie and 2nd year QB's are struggling with QBR anyway.
