Having to play the Patriots twice(12-4 X 2), the Broncos (13-3) and the Chiefs (11-5) really increases the strength of schedule. The Dolphins only play 6 games against teams that had winning records in 2013.
 
If you look at the top 11 of 12 teams they all come from the 3 divisions with the best records

NFC West 42 wins
AFC West 37 wins
AFC East 34 wins

So strength of schedule is mainly determined by how good your division was the previous year.
