I am trying to get an estimate of asking prices of our FAs next year for something I am working on...
Taking this disastrous season into account, what do you expect our impending free agents to look for on the open market next season ($/yr)?
The following guys are the ones I am curious about..

Player / Position / 2015 cap hit
Moore, MattQB$2,600,000
Shelby, DerrickDE$2,356,000
Delmas, LouisFS$2,297,375
Vernon, OlivierDE$1,701,520
Miller, LamarRB$1,663,500
Matthews, RishardWR$673,403

Will OV still look for close to 10M and Lamar Miller 7M? What are realistic numbers for these guys?

Moore - gone. Get a new qb to develop behind Tannehill / push him

Shelby - not sure what he thinks his market is... I'd pay him like 3 mil a year?

Miller - I'd pay him around 5 mil per year. We need to keep him and Ajayi as a combo

Vernon - I'm on the fence about even bringing him back. He's played better here lately but is invisible most of the time. He's not worth upwards of 5 million at all to me

Matthews - I want to keep him here. I'd pay him 4-5 million.

I think Miller, Matthews, and Shelby are most likely to come back. Moore is too pricey for doing nothing. Vernon won't be worth his asking price. Delmas has got to be close to done in the nfl. I hope we move on.

It's all up to the new coach. I'd like to keep Miller and Matthews but the rest of them can kick rocks for all I care. OV has more stupid personal foul penalties than sacks. We need to purge this team of it's low IQ players and OV is on that list for me...so is Jamar Taylor who has a knack of getting defensive holding calls every time the defense comes up with a stop on 3rd down and most of the time the play is in the other direction.

IMO try to bring back Shelby for depth/starter role while we reassemble the DE position. With Wake as a possible cut, and Vernon may be not worth re-signing, it drops down to Jordan(LOL) and Fede IIRC.
Try to re-sign Miller, but don't go over 5 for him.

I would let Matthews walk and go with Parker on the outside, depending on price.

Agreed. What about shelby at a low cost though?

No way OV get anywhere close to 10m and Miller wont break 5m. Someone will over pay for OV though, likely giving him 7-8m. Miller is not that great of a back and I doubt he gets more than 5m. I would think he will get @ 4m and stay with the Dolphins.

keep Vernon, Miller, Matthews. Delmas is injury prone, Moore makes too much to sit on the sideline, and Shelby makes too much for a backup. Watch him go to New England and become a starter lol

If I had to guess, I'd put Lamar at $6 million. It may seem high for a back, but I think he will have value on the market. He's a good kid, he's improved, he has a burst and can really accelerate. His ability to catch has really improved.

Rishard may want $5 million. IMO, that may seem high, and I like the guy. I'd shoot for $4 or 4.5 mil. He's coming off one year. Receivers are plentiful.

OV may want $10 million but I don't see it. He had a horrendous first half and has had a penchant for the dumb play throughout his career. But he does play a position that gets paid. He's played better the past few weeks. The question is, why? I could see $6 million, as unjust as that sounds.

Shelby: sure he can set the edge and hold up against the run, but he lacks closing burst as a pass rusher. You can find guys like Shelby without squinting. I'd say $3-4 million.

Moore - $ 1.5 to $2 million seems fine for his value. It should be declining. There are other ascending options now.

Delmas is injury risk. Whatever the veteran minimum is at his level.

$4 mil for Miller
$4 mil for Matthews
$5 mil for Vernon
$2.5 mil for Shelby

That is the max I would offer those guys.

I think if given 250 carries a season, Miller could be a great back, though.

Hate to break it to you guys but Rishard Matthews is a goner next season. Somebody will over pay him and we just drafted Parker to play the role Matthews has held down this year. Way more upside than Rishard, will be cheaper on the rookie deal and we can use the money that would be spent on Matthews to add to the OL. Parker, Stills and Landry are going to be the guys going forward with Hazel getting his shot.

MOVE ON FROM EVERY SINGLE ONE
Get some new blood here since we sucked with all these players

Matt Moore: Probably a 1/2M deal. Won't see north of 2.5M. I move on from him without a doubt, and this will be the third offseason I've said so. He'll be gone.
1/2M

Derrick Shelby: Think he'll fetch something between $3M and $4M on about a 3 year term. If a 3/12M deal gets it done I hold onto him.

Louis Delmas: Don't think it really matters. There's no way he can get anything more than incentive laden deal at the league min.

Olivier Vernon: I think the best comp for him is Everson Griffen. Differences are is Vernon is slightly younger and his production isn't quite the same. Additionally he's probably going to hit the market, and with inflation he'll probably get paid similarly. I'm gonna say he'll get slightly less, 5/37.5M. I wouldn't touch him at that.

Lamar Miller: The market has been set for Miller level guys. Spiller, Ingram and Gore. He's a 4/16M guy most likely, max $5M AAV. I'd think about it, but air on the side of letting him go.

Rishard Matthews: He's an interesting case. 1 year wonder, but didn't have opportunities. 7th round pick but really more overlooked than anything. A borderline 1000 yard receiver over a 16 game stretch in his first full year of work. I think he gets a 4/20 or 4/24. Anything south of 6M AAV I keep him.

what's not on the list are cuts for guys under contract where we would have huge savings.
we can shave, I want to say, between $35-$50 M next year

While its always interesting to see how everyone would handle our FAs, I was also curious from the market's perspective. Obviously the player is going to want the most money and the Dolphins are going to try to get a bargain, but what are these players actually worth on the market?
This post really nailed what I was looking for. :thanks:

As far as from the Dolphins perspective, Lamar Miller is the only one i'd make a serious effort to re-sign. I'd like to see Shelby back if he comes at a fair price.

Calculator right here

By cutting Grimes, Cameron, Fox, Jennings, Coples, Misi, Mitchell, McCain, Damien Williams and Chris McCain we would have $35 mil in cap.

If you wanted to purge the roster and also get rid of Albert, Pouncey and Wake, you'd have $61 mil.

With the first set of cuts above, the only veterans we'd really have on the roster in 2017 would be Tannehill, Suh, Pouncey, Albert and Jones.

We can get out of Tannehill's contract in 2017. We can get out of Suh's contract as early as 2018.
