MOBILE, Ala. — The Miami Dolphins have used three first-round draft choices in the last six years on offensive linemen. Miami has correctly prioritized offensive and defensive line in the draft and free agency and is hopeful first-rounders Mike Pouncey (15th overall, 2011), Ja’Wuan James(19th overall, 2014) and Laremy Tunsil (13th overall, 2016) will all stay healthy and excel in 2017.

If the Dolphins want to solidify the guard position for next season, there are two players with versatility, agility and strength worth strongly considering with the 22nd pick in the April draft: Forrest Lamp of Western Kentucky and Dan Feeney of Indiana.

Lamp would make sense with regard to value and need, but this draft should present value at DE or LB in the 1st; if not those positions, it should offer value at CB or Safety. Miami needs to add some juice to the D. You can't just keep patching holes in FA; you have to invest premium picks - particularly in years where the talent is this rich. As much as I love Lamp, he's low on my list at 22.

I like Feeney, but no way at 22. I have him rated in a similar range to Elflein and Dorian Johnson. Trade up for one of them in the second if you NEED to, but Feeney hasn't separated himself from that very strong group the way that Lamp has. If Miami does head into the draft with a need at OG, this would be my approach. I have them all as late-1st/early-2nd RD picks, ready to start Day 1 with good upside. I think there's a good chance one of those players will fall to 54.

In a perfect world, Miami lands two quality OG's in FA, allowing them to spend the 22nd and 54th picks on defense. But, if you can't, at least this C/OG group has quality players toward the top.

The only way I can see this type of scenario is if they trade down in rd 1 to pick up another second- grab the G and then DE and LB in rd 2.

I'd rather sign a guard and draft one later. Too much talent at other premier positions to pass up
