In the last few hours we have had threads covering everything from signing Martellus Bennet (despite just trading for Thomas) to trading Kenny Stills... I think that is is time for a mega thread - I like mega threads, they are always a good read.

This thread isn't for reporting actual news about who the fins are interested in, use it to tell us about your cunning plan to trade the last 20 seconds of Andre Branch's contract for Brady, Gronk and Edelman

We are getting quite close to free agency now so I think this is about the right time for a thread like this.
________

I would rather focus on bringing back some of our own guys, then make a run at some sensibly priced free agents. I would make the line the first priority in free agency:

I would like to see us make a run at signing one of Kevin Zeitler or T.J. Lang and then bring in Stefen Wisniewski to back up Pouncey and compete for the other guard slot. I am sick to death of making pointless FA splashes - sign good, sensibly priced free agents who can contribute without gashing a huge hole in the salary cap.

Having said that, we have had so much damn trouble finding a guard (I genuinely miss the John Jerry glory days) that I would be prepared to pay slightly above the average for a proven commodity

_____

So go wild! Tell us your pre draft masterplan:

I'm stuck in a catch 22 when I think about the early offseason moves of the FO. On one hand, I can agree with the FO thinking that finding two quality guards between free agency, the draft, and current roster competition shouldn't be difficult. On the other hand, I think about all the trash we've had at guard for what seems like forever, and I don't trust the plan at all. This is the same FO and coaching staff that came out of training camp with Dallas Thomas still on the roster. This is also the same FO that wouldn't spend a late round pick on La'el Collins even when the risk was totally acceptable.

I think Zeitler and Lang are too pricey. I would kick the tires on Ronald Leary. I also wouldn't discount our current players, Urbik and Steen. Urbik played well as a backup at multiple positions, and Steen was ok for a rookie starter before injury affected his play.

I've said elsewhere, sign two FA OGs ranking in top third of NFL. OG problem solved. Sign a top LB or DE. TE already addressed. Come draft day, success becomes MUCH easier.

I take your point that those two are pricey but they are good. If we go into next year with either Urbik or Steen starting on the O line? Then imo the front office will have failed to fix a glaring weakness - for like the 6th year in a row. Guard is the one position we never spend money at (wasted plenty of picks tho) this front office simply don't have a clue how to find a guard. It is time to finally go get a proven vet (who isnt 36) and fix the issue once and for all

Man what I would give to have never drafted Jonathan Martin.... We would still have pro bowl caliber incog at one of the guard spots and a 2nd round pick would have been on a different player

Agree with UK, have to nail the two starting guards in FA and at least one starting LB, and pray that you draft well, it can be done, but still have significant doubts with this FO. Can only hope!

We should trade Jordan Cameron for Orange Julius. Not Julius Thomas, an actual medium sized Orange Julius.

I'm honestly not gonna be surprised if Miami goes all out and signs AJ Boyue then gets rid of Maxwell.

He's this years OV. Not a big name but is gonna make some money.

Like the idea getting rid of Maxwell, not so big on the idea of buying huge money to a non elite player (or even an elite one for that matter) we need multiple good starters

AJ Boyue was a top 3 corner all season. Only behind the studs in Denver.

Im sure that he was, but we need to invest sensibly across corner, linebacker and guard. We can't (yet again) get distracted by one shiny thing and ignore all the other needs

I agree.

Signing a player like him instantly improves pass defense. Much different that signing a DT and that's it. Getting rid of Maxwell's cap allows us to still sign a G or possibly 2 depending on how the contracts are worded.

The focus the draft on LBs and DEs.

Unless we unearth a real stud in the draft this year I deeply worry about the future of our pass rush. Wakes replacement should already be an established player in Miami but OV didn't work out and Jordan was just a bust. We need a young, top tier DE regardless of what happens with Branch - who imo is JAG

Trade wise, I would see if any team is willing to give a 4th round pick for Moore. As good a backup Moore is, a 4th round pick is great returns at this point. Not to mention there are other options at backup QB this year.

FA wise, I would tread cautiously. We've tended to splurge on FAs to try to win the offseason. Instead of spending bulk of cap on 1 guy again, I would rather Fins look at value options at OL (a couple guards and a tackle maybe), LB and DE and CB. I wouldn't release Maxwell till we have an able replacement.

And I would also like Fins to double down on the same positions in the draft as well. A young DE is needed badly esp with the mileage on Wake.
