With Opening Day here today....let's have an official MLB Thread!
Reds don't start till tomorrow. Good thing, its pouring here and would have been rained out anyway.
I didn't get to watch it live but just got done fast forwarding through the recording ... which is amazing because you can watch every play and still get through a baseball game in like 40 minutes ... and I have a question for those who watched the Yankees game.
What made you laugh harder: Stanton blasting home runs or Donaldson trying to get the ball to first base? I guess spending the off season getting advice from Chuck Knoblauch was a bad idea in retrospect. It was like a mix of Carl Lewis throwing out the first pitch and a 12 year old girl who had never picked up a baseball.
What in the hell is going on with that? That has to be so beyond embarrassing for him.
Apparently there were other Marlin suitors, who according to Dan LeBatard, would have kept the talent in place including a group headed by a local Cuban Billionaire developer.
But no, the group with an over-rated ******* got the deal and was allowed to rape the team. Jeter pleading poverty while pulling out $5mil a year for himself. I really wish his parents had been into anal.
First game for the sox was a Rollercoaster... Chris Sale throws fire for 8 innings gets pulled in comes Joe Kelly proceeds to walk 3 batters and give up a double next thing you know Tampa takes the lead. Nunez hits an inside the park homerun early in the game and that would be the last of the sox scoring opportunities. Shame that sale didn't get the W he pitched one hell of a game.
LET'S GO SOX!
Let's go underdog
Rick porcello dealing
Red Sox rotation is a beast! They need to start hitting the darned ball .
The hits Will come, the rotation needs to stay healthy
Absolutely, Sale was exhausted by the end of the season last year and Price was never right. This could be a special pitching staff all around. The 6 run eighth was an aberration, I'm sure. Kelly will get it straightened out.
Kelly looked ok at first he got two quick outs then let up two hits runners on first and third and strikes out the last guy for the save. I thought Kelly pitched decent last year
Also buddy If you haven't already you should definitely consider voting for me in the match madness im gettin my *** whooped right now i need help!
I'll see what I can do. I generally vote on the last day.
Today is the last day!!!
I just realized that. I've still got weekend fog going on.
What happened to the Yankees? ESPN said they shouldn't expect to ever lose a game after that first game where Stanton hit 2 HRs...lulz.
Looking forward to the yanks coming to fenway next week
Giants offense looks like *** so far.
Red Sox have a nice rotation from the looks of things...though it's only against the Rays and Marlins...still, not a bad way to start.
Yeah bullpen was sketchy game 1 but after that its been better. That starting rotation has all the potential in the world
Pomeranz coming back from injury will only help, same with Eduardo Rodriguez.
Porcello pitched well as did price and with sale its always 10ks a game lol
I don't think it's time to panic a week into the season at 3-2. Bats got quiet after the first few games. Guys not seeing the ball isn't a great sign though. Stanton had no business being at the plate during his 5 KO game yesterday. Judge still looks shaky at bat as well ... I'd straight veto him doing the derby again if this keeps up. He hasn't been right since then. Complete control at the plate before. Sanchez needs to step it up or he's gonna lose his job. With his defense, there's no excuse to keep playing him if he can't hit. The bench tends to do wonders with situations like this.
Pitching will be the x-factor again. Bullpen is nasty but the starting rotation doesn't exactly strike fear in the heart of opponents.
I think Judge is a bust, personally...but Stanton is a monster (maybe not Frampton Comes Alive, monster, but a monster nonetheless) at the plate, and will be again this season, especially in the friendly confines of neaux Yankee Stadium.
Betances will get his **** together too, I imagine.
I wouldn't go as far yo say judge will be a bust but o definitely think he got overhyped last year. His first half of the season was incredible no denying that.
Also you don't walk benintendi to bring up Hanram you just don't do it.... Ask the marlins
Anyone that big can hit HRs. Dude's got too many holes in his swing to be effective long-term.
Those holes all came out after the derby. There was no part of the plate that was his enemy before that. He was so dangerous because he had no issue slapping those outside pitches into right for a single ... instead of trying to mash everything Jim Thome style.
He was a totally different hitter after that. He started looking for the HR every time ... enter the slump. Started guessing on pitches. By the end of the season he was just trying to make contact.
He's been unbelievably hyped since he entered the Yanks farm system but I doubt the first half of last season was an abberation. I'd bet he's gonna be deadly once he gets the mental part of the game now.
Wrong. Completely wrong.
It's amazing how much talent comes out of the Central Valley of CA, where Judge came out of...both in baseball and football. It's such an underrated talent mine.
I see him as a lame version of Adam Dunn. If he were in any other market, no one would give two ****s about him.
Derby didn't have anything to do with it. The rest of the league adjusted to him. He struggled in. Big, long arms, and he launches the barrel earlier than you would like, so he can't get to the inside pitches very well. League adjusted, he struggled in, then you're right about the mental part. He started to search for ways to fix it and got away from what made him great. He will be fine. He still isn't going to handle in very well, or up. But 6'8 monsters, not many people want to leave the ball up or in on big guys because they are afraid to "miss".
Btw..calling him a "bust" hahahahaha. He had one and a half bad months. All star, Rookie of the year and 2nd in the MVP race as a rookie and hes a "bust"....wow.
No chance. Dunn has never had the type of swing Judge has. Dunn was a big donkey, good athlete and an average swing. Judge has a very good swing while being a huge donkey and a good athlete.
That area and Miami ... 2 best spots in the country for my money.
I bet I saw about 2/3 of the games last year and I saw a completely different hitter pre and post derby. He wasn't even trying to go yard on half of his Jacks pre break. He was looking to get on base. He flipped those wrists and used the opposite field almost like Jeter did. I don't remember seeing that 3 times after the derby.
Pitchers adjusting to him is obviously a big part of any rookie taking the league by storm ... but he didn't make it difficult for them at all after the derby. Maybe it was a perfect storm of pitchers adjusting and him slumping but if he was the same hitter after the break it wouldn't have been so easy. He was in his own head baaaaaaad.
I was expecting Ks at the end of the season because of the guessing and lack of confidence. He had totally lost command of the batters box by the end of it.
Cedar knows baseball but the bust comment followed by the Adam Dunn comparison ... oof. I can't imagine seeing two different players in the field. Dunn only wore a glove out of necessity. Judge can move for his size ... great athlete. Not to mention their swings don't match up.
At the least the Yanks are good again. It's good for baseball and they have home grown talent for the first time since the late 90s. Fingers crossed on the starting rotation.
Some of those bats woke up today. Nice.
Yea no offense, but Judge didn't flip his wrists the other way Jeter did. Judge launched that way. Jeter flipped the way you described.
By the way, Judges last 27 games of the season...7 doubles 15 Homers 32 RBIs 28 Walks 32 Ks. Far from "losing command of the batters box".
You Yankee fans have some thin skin lol. It’s fun to get you going.
I’m a rays fan.
None taken. There aren't a ton of clips of him that aren't home runs but he was doing this pre break with consistency. I don't even know when this game was ... but that type of single to right happened with regularity. Can't pitch to him. Can't shift on him. Until ... after that stupid derby.
