NFL Comparison
Budda Baker
Overview
Interchangeable safety with aggressiveness and leadership qualities teams covet. Teams also covet big and fast which could push him into the third day of the draft. Teams might pick at his measurables, but he’s reliable in coverage and extremely consistent as a downhill, open-field tackler with a taste for striking. He has good short-area quickness and soft hands, but he lacks ball-hawking instincts, which limits his production. Johnson's play demeanor and urgency need equal consideration or a team could lose out on solid player.
Strengths
  • Team captain with high-end intangibles
  • Passionate halftime speech sparked team against Florida State
  • Undersized but not lacking in physicality
  • Delivers punishing blow when he gets his shots
  • Plays with urgency in his actions
  • Restricts cutback angles with consistent downhill pursuit
  • Limber, open-field tackler with good finishing rate
  • Talented in forcing fumbles
  • Rarely out of position in coverage
  • Willing to overlap from zone
  • Quick to pick up coverage duties after play-fake
  • Put two spectacular interception on his 2017 tape
  • Appetite to chase and corral on punt-cover teams
Weaknesses
  • Smallish frame that might not get much bigger
  • Quicker than fast
  • Average range speed over the top
  • Lack of size and speed showed up at Senior Bowl
  • Matchup on pro tight ends will be challenging
  • Average recognition and anticipation limit ball production
  • Responds quickly but instincts are average
  • Not enough squeeze in man coverage
  • Often a step behind in making the play
  • Could find trouble in jump-ball spots downfield

NFL Comparison
AJ McCarron
Overview
The 2017 Alabama win showed a mobile quarterback with good mechanics and intelligence who played with confidence and was able to convert in key situations. The 2018 tape shows a player who lost both his confidence and poise and began to play a rushed brand of football that seeped into his pre-snap planning and his post-snap accuracy. Stidham went from ascending prospect to developmental quarterback and he needs to find the right set of coaches and system to help rehab his confidence and timing.
Strengths
  • Intelligent with ability to decipher defenses
  • Adequate size and arm strength
  • Makes good decisions from RPO looks
  • Comfortable throwing from true play-action and rollouts
  • Above-average move accuracy
  • Good recognition to wait for throwing lanes to clear
  • Sound footwork and mechanics from the pocket
  • Classic over-the-top release
  • Ball comes out of his hands with clean, tight spiral
  • Above-average touch throwing to all three levels
  • Good back shoulder passer
  • Competitive open-field runner as scrambler
  • Willing to put his head down and find tough yards to secure first downs.
Weaknesses
  • Failed to build on 2017 campaign
  • Became antsy and unsure due to excessive pressure
  • Inconsistent pre-snap blitz recognition
  • Drops eyes and loses some poise when pressure mounts
  • Will void and run rather than sliding and scanning from pocket
  • Became indecisive and struggled to get throws out on time
  • Needs to throw with better anticipation
  • Average operation time to throw
  • Unlikely to beat defenses with arm talent alone
  • Needs to step and drive his throws
  • Ball placement and accuracy fell off in 2018
  • Below-average deep ball accuracy
Draft Projection
"That was a really dysfunctional offense this year. The offensive line was bad, the receivers couldn't get open and the coaching was a big problem, I thought. He didn't play well, but he didn't get much help either." -- National scout for NFC team

NFL Comparison
Rashard Mendenhall
Overview
Ascending every-down running back prospect who showed major flashes of becoming an NFL starter in his most active season to date. Williams runs with a good combination of feel, force and juice, which allows for a variety of methods in creating yards for himself. His evaluation could require additional character work and his relative lack of experience could mean a slower integration into an NFL offense; however, he offers exciting upside with the talent to become a productive, NFL starter.
Strengths
  • Possesses adequate NFL size with good flexibility
  • Stepped into bell-cow role with ease
  • Had four games with 140-plus yards and averaged a touchdown run every 12 carries
  • Understands block development and where lanes will originate
  • Adequate decisiveness as interior runner
  • Presses line of scrimmage to set blockers up for success
  • Loose hips to flow where his eyes take him
  • Processes traffic quickly to work away from peek-a-boo gap-fitters
  • Impressive acceleration
  • Mashes gas to win foot races to corner or hit the home run
  • Runs with square pads and drops heavy, pre-emptive blows on tacklers
  • Small career workload for fresh NFL legs
  • Ball security has been excellent in relatively limited work.
Weaknesses
  • Small sample size with limited tape against quality competition
  • Never more than 39 carries in a single season before 2018
  • Has an arrest (2016) and four-game suspension (2018) in his background
  • Slew-footed running style can affect balance through cuts
  • Needs to step in and square blitzers rather than defaulting to body rolls
  • Easier to upend in space because of narrow running base
  • Vision goes from good to average after he's past the line of scrimmage
  • Average elusiveness in open field

Pharoh Cooper
Overview
Tyshun "Deebo" Samuel lives up to his nickname (it comes from a tough guy in the movie "Friday") and plays each game like he's stepping into an alley fight. While Samuel is tough and competitive, he lacks suddenness and might need scheme help with motion and bunch formations to help free him against NFL man coverage. He is a gamer who thrives once the ball is in his hands, and he might be able to help a team from the slot if he can stay healthy.
Strengths
  • Extremely urgent and competitive
  • Subtle but effective adjustments around attempted route redirection
  • Pre-stem fake often gets defenders to lean or open hips
  • Body control allows for earlier stops and turns in routes
  • Fearless and focused working the middle of the field
  • Possesses strong hands with will to win contested catches
  • Works aggressively back to the football
  • Steams right through arm tackles after the catch
  • Has running back vision with the ball in his hands
  • Surprising build-up speed to separate as open-field runner
  • Four career kick returns for touchdowns
Weaknesses
  • Compact, stocky frame looks out of place outside
  • Needs to improve footwork to defeat press
  • Routes lack forward lean and vertical push
  • Hip tightness limits stride length
  • Needs to add some finesse with route-work
  • Struggled to uncover against press-and-trail coverage
  • Average burst to separate out of breaks and turns
  • Below average catch radius and mid-air body adjustments
  • First and only healthy season was in 2018
  • Past hamstring issues concern evaluators.

Overview
Tape shows a player who loves to get into routes and become a target, but also who shies away from the physical requirements asked of him in the run game. Mack's draft projection will likely be tied directly to how teams see him as a matchup tight end. While he has some straight-line speed, he isn't that dynamic as a route-runner and might not have much impact beyond first-level routes.
Strengths
  • Very comfortable working from the slot
  • Has athletic ability to become a much better move blocker if he's willing to get his nose dirty
  • Comes off the snap with very good early push into his routes
  • Carries good straight-line speed and should run well at the combine
  • Shows ability to track and make impressive body adjustments to haul it in
  • Good pluck-and-tuck ball skills when throws are wide of his frame
  • Has necessary hand quickness when throws are put on top of him out of breaks
  • Can absorb contact and finish the catch in traffic
Weaknesses
  • Has some hip tightness that limits sharpness of breaks and stride length
  • Upright into breaks and lacks suddenness to open to his quarterback on comebacks
  • Not much shake as an open-field runner after the catch
  • Lacks agility to elude defensive backs looking to chop his legs out from under him
  • Inconsistent avoiding forceful route redirection
  • Disappointing drop rate over final two collegiate seasons
  • Positioning and footwork as a blocker leave much to be desired
  • Fails to look for and find work as second-level blocker

BEST TRAIT - Hand Usage/Strikes

WORST TRAIT - Footwork

RED FLAGS - Had left shoulder surgery after the 2017 regular season. Will be a 24 year-old rookie.

Dalton Risner has been one of the better offensive linemen in college football for a long time now, largely due to his masterful hand technique and punishing demeanor. Extremely physical and aggressive, Risner has started three straight seasons at right tackle for Kansas State, locking down every type of rusher and hardly ever losing a 1v1 matchup. In the run game, he brings power and technique, while also being able to get out in space and make high degree of difficulty blocks on a per game basis.

Yes, Risner doesn't see elite competition off the edge in the SEC, but he locked up Montez Sweat pretty good when the two met in September. I think Risner's pass set issues and lack of length (more of a concern for the NFL, not me) will be negated somewhat by moving inside, where his functonal strength and brawler's mentality will also be welcome. Versatility, smarts, communication ability and pro-ready technique will be strong selling points for a player who should be a top 60 lock this spring.

NFL Comparison
Hassan Ridgeway
Overview
Feast or famine 3-technique whose game is characterized by splashy wins and glaring losses from snap to snap. Willis is a one-gapper who has enough initial quickness and footwork to find success in the backfield, but poor pad level gets him bludgeoned by double teams too frequently. He's an active rusher with change of direction to harass the pocket which could bolster his draft stock and make him a rotational backup with eventual starter potential if he plays with a more functional pad level.
Strengths
  • Broad waist hips with big bubble
  • Adequate initial quickness with winning arm over
  • Gap worker with disruptive production in the backfield
  • Will surprise with his athletic ability
  • Above-average agility to expand lateral tackle success
  • Impressive closing burst in pursuit
  • Gets out of blocks and into plays with quality spin move
  • Active interior rusher
  • Athleticism get the drop on blockers in twist game
  • Maneuvers around blocks with good change of direction
  • Disruptive when he plays with second effort
Weaknesses
  • Pad level consistently too tall
  • Knocked out of gaps when he tries to swim run blocks
  • Below-average gap integrity
  • Motor and overall effort level can be inconsistent
  • Washed away when he gets too upright on swim counters
  • Driven way off his spot by double teams
  • Poor hand usage leads to some ugly reps
  • Gets stuck to blocks
  • Faces questions regarding off-field maturity

225: 22
VJ: 33.5
BJ: 9'8"
20S: 4.38
3C: 7.03

Overview
The one-time option quarterback should be able to impress with his athletic testing during postseason workouts, but he still needs to keep adding play strength to be ready to handle NFL offensive linemen. Cominsky is built like a 3-4 defensive end and flashes potential to handle those types of run duties down the road. However, without more threat as a pass rusher, his NFL potential could be limited.
Strengths
  • Looks the part
  • Continued to grind away in weight room, filling out frame from 218 to 285 during time at Charleston
  • Ran verified 4.68-second 40 in spring, which is on par with NFL middle linebackers
  • Praised for his work to become more cerebral in his approach
  • Plays with desired aggression in field demeanor
  • Disruptive run defender who uses force to help post impressive tackle for loss totals
  • Adequate initial get-off
  • Flashes upper-body turn to work around the edge of blocker
  • Plus closing burst to the quarterback as rusher
Weaknesses
  • Very average as pass rush talent
  • Too upright into his rush, allowing blockers to slow his charge with well-timed punch
  • Pass rush based on force over angles and hand usage
  • Hasn't learned to work hands and feet in unison to disable blocker's initial punch
  • Takes longer than expected to generate full arm extension after punch
  • Has physical traits as two-gapper but isn't quite there yet
  • Didn't face severe physical challenges at his level of competition.

ILB Josiah Tauaefa Texas-San Antonio 6-1 240LBS.

NFL Combine
Non-participant

Overview
High-energy inside linebacker with a willing spirit and a strong desire to get to as many plays as possible. Tauaefa has the size and frame of a thumper inside, but needs to do a better job of imposing his will rather than trying to elude blocks so often. He is a two-down linebacker with coverage limitations who needs to do a better job of playing with patience in his flow, but he's got a shot if he can embrace a role of banger and prove himself as a core special teamer.
Strengths
  • Very energetic and good physicality
  • Never lets up and is always around the ball
  • Volume tackler
  • Downhill attack is his default
  • Rapid responder to play flow
  • Adequate acceleration to close out ball carriers
  • Scouts praise him for football intelligence
  • Sets-up and slips blocks effectively
  • Has size and strength to muddy run lanes between tackles
  • Wrap and roll tackle finisher
  • Accomplished A-gap blitzer with jump-cut to unlock opposite gap
Weaknesses
  • Big, but lacks athletic cut
  • Upright, freestyling approach lacks discipline
  • Instincts are uneven and will guess-and-go
  • Too quick to trust his keys
  • Gets caught racing past leverage points in flows to perimeter
  • Ducks head into take-ons and loses sight of ball
  • Possesses toughness but plays with finesse at times
  • Needs more purposeful attack into climbing blocks
  • Pulled out of the middle of the field in coverage

NFL Comparison
Chris Culliver
Overview
Late bloomer who came to school as a skinny wide receiver with 4.7 speed and leaves with outstanding height, weight, speed measurements and a shot to go on Day 2 as a cornerback. Brown's athletic ability and recovery speed increases his opportunities to make plays and flip the field, but he needs to trust his instincts and sharpen his eyes. If a coach can improve his assertiveness against big ball-winners, he has the physical and play traits to become one of the surprise cornerbacks in this draft.
Strengths
  • Prototype for height, weight, speed at the position
  • Elite level athletic ability with rare fluidity for size
  • Traits and cover talent are scheme independent
  • Above-average ball production as three-year starter
  • Feet and hips to mirror and trace routes from press or off
  • Good bend and balance to stay connected to multi-breaks
  • Long speed to handle vertical challenges
  • Stick and click twitch to smother routes underneath
  • Above-average closing skill
  • Former wideout with soft hands and feel for attacking passing lane
  • Weather-tested
Weaknesses
  • Plays light for being a bigger cornerback
  • Gets out-muscled at break point too often
  • Unusually short arms for a tall cornerback
  • Lack of length shows up at times and could hinder trail technique
  • Needs to play more assertively against size
  • Gives away critical body positioning in potential 50-50 situations
  • Needs better eye-balance to read quarterback clues
  • Can improve his read and squeeze off routes from off coverage
  • Will get jostled and bounced as run supporter.
Sources Tell Us

"He's big and can run and that's what we need. Hell, that's what everybody needs now. He's not soft, but I just wish he had more dog in him to impose his presence on receivers. If he had that, he would be a top-40 pick." -- Director of scouting for NFC team

NFL Combine
Height: 5-10
Weight: 205
Arm: 30 7/8
Hand: 9 3/8

NFL Comparison
M.J. Stewart
Overview
Versatile defensive back with above-average instincts, awareness and toughness. Edwards has the instincts and range to become an eventual starter at safety, but some evaluators might view him as a big nickel with the size to handle bigger slot receivers and the toughness to get his nose dirty in run support. Edwards is a smart, tough and consistent player who could find early starting work if he tests well.
Strengths
  • Capable of transitioning from nickel cornerback to two-high safety in-game
  • Plus size to match with bigger slot receivers and to handle run-support duties
  • Aggressive slot blitzer
  • Triggers downhill to squeeze the edge as run defender
  • Courageous tackler who finds proper positioning before exploding through runner's thighs
  • Adequate feet as cornerback to adjust to receiver's release
  • Smart and instinctive from zone coverage
  • Plays with discipline and proper balance between targets as high safety
  • Uses quarterback's field scan to anticipate patterns and get early jumps on the throw
  • Above-average ball skills to swat and snatch passes at the catch point
  • Finds the football with 10 career interceptions
Weaknesses
  • Too handsy and grabby from off coverage
  • Lax in route redirection and will whiff on targets
  • Slow to ramp up acceleration when asked to turn and chase
  • Makeup speed in question when matched against speed
  • Click-and-close burst is just average
  • Needs to hit weights and add muscle if asked to move full time to safety
  • Inconsistent in punching and playing off of blocks near the box

Chase Daniel
Overview
Gritty, successful three-year starter who fell victim to a disappointing regression during his senior season. McSorley is a dual-threat quarterback who lacks size and arm talent but has shown an ability to throw with anticipation to help overcome his average arm strength. While McSorley can handle RPO duties, he seemed to be more comfortable and accurate when sitting down on throws from the pocket. He must regain his accuracy and confidence or he will need to try and transition to another position to make it.
Strengths
  • Can throw with rollout accuracy
  • Plays with good energy and a competitive spirit
  • Good operation quickness with compact release
  • Previous tape shows ability to throw with anticipation
  • Able to expedite release when pressure surges in his face
  • Can set and uncork when receiver suddenly breaks open
  • Willing to trust his targets to make a play
  • Glues safeties in place with early eye work to open adjacent throwing windows
  • Had success with zone-read and RPO calls
  • Has 30 rushing touchdowns as a starter
  • Spirited runner with above-average toughness and vision
Weaknesses
  • Frame falls below NFL norms
  • Had 11 passes batted this season
  • Seemed to lose touch and accuracy overnight
  • Struggled to hit moving targets in stride with consistency
  • Completed just 39 percent of deep throws with tendency to overthrow it
  • Lacks ability to win the tight window throws
  • Attempts "arm talent" throws that will turn sour vs
  • NFL defenders
  • Needs gallop step to push the deep ball
  • Hurries and loses fundamentals when throwing from a scramble
  • High percentage of touchdown passes came on easy red-zone RPOs in 2018
  • Overreacts to pressure at times

Alex Collins
Overview
Face-first runner who doesn't appear to care that brakes come standard with the vehicle. Armstead's feet fire like pistons from the beginning of the snap all the way through his physical finishes. While he's not classically elusive, he does find his own yards by slithering through tight quarters or stacking yards after contact. His size, decisiveness and effort in pass protection should land him work as a backup, but his play traits could help him find more carries than expected as a pro.
Strengths
  • Good size with NFL thickness through his thighs
  • Known for competitive nature
  • Decisive and fearless
  • Downhill locomotive with ability to alter rush track without tapping the brakes
  • Needs no point of entry as inside runner and gets it in
  • Good feel for hugging contours of the gap and squeezing through
  • Feet are in constant state of chop, allowing for additional balance through contact
  • Runs with low pads and forward lean
  • Drives through contact to break tackles or finish falling forward
  • Possesses mindset and play strength for "gotta have it" short-yardage spots
  • Sifts to find his responsibility as pass protector
  • Willing to mirror and square blitzers with adequate effort
Weaknesses
  • Could stand to run with better patience and rhythm
  • Aggressive nature leads to immediate gas into traffic
  • Needs to take a breath and allow blocking in front of him to develop
  • Short-strider with below-average explosive burst to the perimeter
  • Field vision appears to be narrow
  • Missing lateral agility to jump-cut around tacklers and bounce runs wide
  • More chain mover than chunk-play runner
  • Minimal factor as pass catcher.

Danario Alexander
Overview
Big long-strider with exceptional length and good build-up speed to challenge cover corners and safeties down the field. Butler's unique play strength after the catch allows him to win contested deep balls and then plow through tackle attempts to create chunk plays and long touchdowns. His routes are basic and clunky and will limit how teams can use him. A greater concern will be those inconsistent hands that could turn quarterbacks against him unless he improves them. He's a work in progress, but the traits and potential are worth taking a shot.
Strengths
  • Size and length creates matchup problems
  • Long strider with impressive build-up speed
  • Climbs quickly on top of safeties from the slot
  • Uses frame to create space at the top of his routes
  • Size, length and leaping swing 50-50 balls in his favor
  • Adequate body control in the air
  • Extremely physical with the ball in his hands
  • Rag-dolls defensive backs after the catch
  • Eight touchdowns of 40-plus yards over last two years
  • Sudden toe taps near boundaries
  • Frame and strength to stick to blocks and spring his running back.
Weaknesses
  • Lacks short-area quickness to beat press
  • Gets wired to corners in early stages of the route
  • Route running is extremely telegraphed on levels 1 and 2
  • Rolls into breaks with excessive gather steps
  • Labored and heavy getting out of breaks
  • Drops on drops on drops
  • Body catcher suffers from concentration lapses
  • Catch radius doesn't guarantee he'll bring it in.

Moreau is a feisty, committed run-blocking tackle with solid technique and footwork to find proper angles in-line or on the move. He's tough enough to battle at the point of attack, but at his best when he's a lead blocker on iso, wham blocks, and outside zone with his ability to locate and land on second-level targets. He lacks finesse as a route-runner and is too content to be covered when matched up against a linebacker. While he's not dynamic, he should find work as a run-blocking option who can be moved around formations.
Strengths
  • Possesses necessary base and core strength to succeed as in-line blocker
  • Understands positioning of feet and hips and usually finds it
  • Can be sticky and irritating to defenders with his desire to sustain and finish blocks
  • Long strides to maintain positioning of hips on backside zone blocks
  • Shows consistent ability to gather weight and strike with well-targeted blows in space
  • Hand placement generally inside defender's frame
  • Well-conditioned and maintains technique late in game
  • Adequate feel for using frame to shield defender and make contested catch
  • Tends to be a punishing runner after catch.
Weaknesses
  • Sluggish start-up quickness into routes
  • Slow into breaks and slow out of them
  • Easy to find and hound for linebackers in coverage
  • Doesn't work hard to create space for the throw in tight quarters
  • Needs to run his feet up under his hands rather than waist-bending as run blocker
  • Can be a little clumsy around excessive foot traffic
  • Pace needs to quicken for move blocks on next level
