2020 Prospects

Figured this would be a fun addition. For college, I'd go:

Tua/Lawrence
Jonathan Taylor/Etienne
Shenault
Tyler Johnson

For the NFL, I'd just ignore the rules and spend the $5 that I would on a RB on Jeudy or Wallace or (even better) get both Tua and Lawrence.

Lol just realized, I was going to $15 x_x Still working on that first cup of coffee. Benjamin from ASU is fine instead of Taylor/Etienne

  • Trevor Lawrence/Eno Benjamin/Jerry Jeudy

He's probably not a 2020 prospect but Desmond Ridder of Cincinnati is superb.

Great competitive history, leadership qualities. Smooth talking kid with a good background. Personality reminds me quite a bit of Andrew Luck's.

As a thrower he's definitely more of a touch specialist, which itself is kind of impressive considering his age and experience level. He throws corner routes with great placement. Uses the deep middle. But he also throws a nice fast ball, when he needs to. I've seen him throw with proper zip over the middle and to his left, at around 70 to 80 feet. I've seen him throwing close to ideal at around 100 feet. Most times when it's appropriate, he seems methodical in looking off the safety, making sure not to stare anyone down. It's no wonder he only threw 5 picks. He's definitely got some Brandon Silvers in him.

Good feet and the makings of a good pocket guy, but he also runs like the wind and gained 700+ yards on 130 carries, not counting sacks. Very calm player in the backfield. He keeps in motion, working up into the pocket. He's not stationary, but not in a hurry, either. He can learn to pick up the pace a little. Finds some tight windows when forced out of structure, rolling left or right. Defenses can't just play man and fall asleep on him on 3rd & 12 because he steals base too easily. He outruns front seven defenders, running with the DBs.

Big frame at 6'3" to 6'4". Big hands. Big feet. You absolutely cannot escape the feeling that you're looking at a kid that hasn't filled out yet, that will get a lot more physically mature, thicker, and stronger with age. He shot up from 5'10" to 6'4" over the course of like one or two years in high school. He's still growing into his frame.

I watched him dice up my South Florida Bulls and I didn't realize he'd done that to everyone else too (excepting perhaps a few tough defenses like UCF and Temple). Went from a 4-win team in 2017 to 11-2 this year with him under center for the Bearcats. Amazing.

The defense underwent a stupendous transformation, going from giving up 32 points a game to only 17 points. But the offense also went from scoring 21 points a game to 35 points per game and if I had to point to one thing that changed it really would be the QB play, moving the ball and putting less pressure on the defense.

They're definitely a running offense with Michael "Truck" Warren carrying the ball at tailback. They gained more yards on the ground than the air. But a big part of the running game is also Desmond Ridder on zone reads and RPOs. The passing game has more of a complementary look right now.

Strong player to look for in the future. You want to see him speed things up a little more. You want to see him mature and start to look a little more polished and comfortable. You want to see him physically mature, fill out, get stronger. You want to see if he can put the passing game on his shoulders and carry the team during some games. But you don't often get to see guys with this combination of frame, mobility, velocity, touch, and efficiency. So that's the sell, right now.

He'll be a RS Sophomore so technically he'll be eligible. I think he was fantastic as a freshman. I actually got a little bit of a Mahomes vibe when I watched him last year.

Easily an NFL prospect. You'll see him in my underclassman QB thread in a few weeks.

Too early to say for sure, but I think I'll end up liking Love more than Fromm. Tua is definitely way out in the lead at #1 for 2020, but Book (who was not nearly as bad vs Clemson as his numbers suggest and had a good year overall) and Ehlinger (should he declare) should make the class interesting after the top 2 or 3 guys. While Herbert showed some worrying signs in 2018, I'm really glad he went back, and I'm rooting for him to take positive strides as a Senior.

If Herbert and Love are spectacular we are golden. I’d prefer that both close the gap on Tua because I’d prefer the larger more athletic QB. I’m not a From guy.

I’d look out for KJ Costello as well this upcoming season. Good size and arm out of Stanford.

I realize that soon enough, ridiculously soon to be honest, TedSlimmJr will throw up his 2020 prospect threads.

Until then, I think we should have a thread where we can talk about prospects that are not available in 2019 but could be or will be in 2020.

If you want to pine after quarterbacks like Justin Herbert, Jake Fromm, Tua Tagovailoa, or Jordan Love, this is a good place to do that.

Even though he still won't even be eligible in 2020, I think Trevor Lawrence talk could go in here as well.

If we draft a QB in round 1 this year not named Kyler Murray, that's a hell of group of QBs to pass on next year.

I can understand why Miami and Chris Grier may be waiting until 2020 to draft their potential franchise QB. 2020's class looks, head and shoulders better than the group Miami has to choose from in 2019. If it ain't Tua, there's Fromm, Love and potentially Herbert.

I like Fromm but when there's a dual threat with a big arm that plays faster than the game, that guy's going to slot ahead of him for me. Jordan Love is there already and could go a lot further.

The Love dude looks good.

For me I just really like Fromm's stroke and his ability to get the pig out fast and challenge downfield (he's freakish good with the back shoulder and putting the ball in a spot where the receiver has an advantage even in tight coverage). Also like his quick set up -- ability to move -- looks to me like really good feet -- and for sure his leadership.

Hits dudes in *stride* and consistently challenges down field (vs. so many who get all their yards via dink dunk and screens). I'd welcome him to Miami in a heartbeat!

But hey. I reserve the right to be wrong!

I agree about Fromm.

He looks like a Pro to me.

I like his poise, leadership, efficiency.

I think he has Brady like qualities.

Like reading that you’re high on Jordan Love. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m an avid follower of HS football. While I see kids from top 50/100 programs around the country via stream and other methods, I attend a ton of games in Northern and Central CA. I’ve been blessed to see some very good QB’s in recent years.

Love played for Liberty High in Bakersfield. I first saw him play in person back in 2015 in the NorCal Regional. I thought he looked like an excellent prospect then, but I gotta say I wasn’t expecting what he’s developing into. He’s looking like a legit top prospect should be declare for 2020.

If Tua and Lawrence came out next year, who’s number 1 and is it close? I love both, but to me Lawrence is a prospect that will be at that Andrew Luck level of as close to a sure thing as you could possibly get.

Too bad he’s 2 years away.

Like both players, but it’s honestly hard to know exactly how good they are because both rarely faced pressure. Lawrence threw from a consistently clean pocket in the Nat’l title game. Any QB worth his weight should be able to do that, even a freshman with his kind of talent.

I hold no bias as I am not a fan of Alabama or Clemson’s programs, but of the two I actually like Tua more. I think Lawrence is being overvalued under a small sample size — similarly to Tua coming off the previous title game.

Tua struggled late last season but I believe injuries had something to do with it.

If Lawrence really blows up this season, I’m likely to change my mind. But I’ve got to see it first. FWIW, Clemson’s adding a nice freshman WR to their stable named Joe Ngata. I’ve watched the kid the past 3 seasons here in NorCal. Think he’s gonna really help Lawrence out.

So far from what I've read 2020 is potentially loaded at QB and WR. RB seems pretty stocked as well. What other positions are you guys looking at that may be strong in 2020?

just for fun, lets say Rosen turns into our guy, who are the other non qb players to keep a eye on

Mentioned him in Slimm's thread, but Tylan Wallace is so good. Tua 1 and Wallace 33 would be my dream scenario for 2020, but Wallace shouldn't last that long.

Grant Delpit should be a Top 20/maybe Top 10 pick.
