2021 Draft will be the draft that dictates who will have jobs in Miami the next couple of years

He's really not. It's obvious as hell. Not sure what else you need - common sense, direct commentary and current atmosphere ALL point to Tua sticking around. NFL coaches and teams dont really care about the narrative from joe 6 pack aka overreactions. Tua had plenty of tape that is stellar and pretending otherwise is dishonest. Tons of bad tape too!
Did you think Tunsil was going to be traded considering how bad our OL sucked at the time? Ajayi released? How about Gailey leaving one day after Flores announces the whole coaching team is going to return? How about Fitz being sent to the bench on a winning streak and put back in relief multiple times? I know these things pale in comparison to drafting a QB in the first round, but my point is that no one in this group knows the plan going forward. In fact, I'd imagine that the decision makers don't know their plans yet. So what may seem obvious today may not in fact be as obvious as it seems.

Fair points! The answer to it would be a two part. When I first heard the rumors, about a week before the actual trade, I thought NO WAY NO HOW.

After reading VIP... yes I did - but only because I saw the potential haul they were getting. Good and fair point, though.

I just feel like... two things.

There is 1 franchise world beating prospect at QB. Hes going to Jacksonville.
Tua is still with the same coaching staff and same front office that thought highly of him all season, and currently has tape that supports him being a good rookie who had a bad few

The thread title has the wrong year. 2020 was the draft that will decide the fate of Grier and probably Flores. The team's chances at being a SB threat in the next few years and whether or not our FO has jobs in 5 years depends on if Tua is the real deal or not. Miami will die on Tua's hill or we will have some real success for the 1st time in 50 years.
I am not necessarily disagreeing with you. If anything Mahommes started 1 game in his rookie season with a better cast. Does he look like a qb that would have a Marino like Season the following season to you?

Can Tua develop into a better qb next season in this manner? Nobody knows, and we didn't see enough of Mahommes in his rookie season since he only started one game with a slightly better cast. But let's not take away the execution that Patrick Mahommes demonstrated in his Rookie start. He did show glimpses of someone that can make good decisions with the ball under pressure. Did Tua demonstrated that? Can he overcome the deficiencies we saw in his game? The front office will have a rough decision to make if for some reason they end up with a player in the board they can't resist to pick regardless if it raises a controversy. If for some weird reason at top qb prospect is still in the board, and we somehow pick that player then that would mean that our front office ended up seeing a higher capacity of development with that player, and had no faith in Tua. If Tua doesn't end up panning out, and we had a chance to pick that player that ended up succesful then do realize this team won't get a chance at a top 3 pick for a while, and we are going to be stuck in the middle rounds trying to find a star QB for the rest of the decade.

In my opinion the team is safer trading down, and gathering a 1st round pick in next years draft. That would allow us to pick better talent in the short term. If we could trade down, get an offensive lineman, corner, or talented wide receiver in the first round that would provide an already slightly talented team with more strength in certain positions.

Probably not but to outright reject it would be a mistake. I'm older than almost everyone here. That means I've had countless seasons when my favorite teams in various sports get stuck in the middle of the draft order year after year. It's such a helpless feeling. You are decent but not threatening. That's the status Miami faces if Tua does not fully pan out.

#3 is a rare opportunity. I'd have to be aggressive with it, one way or another.
Absolutely!....And even when good prospects fell into Miami’s lap like Brees and Rodgers...they wouldn’t pull the trigger and take a shot!

It’s funny how the younger fans think drafting top 5 again is no problem if necessary...?

Your dead on....this is a rare pick and all options should be on the table prior to final evaluations of the talent available.

Before going into full scouting mode I’m really trying to understand what identity we should strive for for this hopeful dynasty we want to be..

I keep coming back to a dominant Run game, great defense and an accurate Qb running an Rpo/zone read scheme..

That dominant run game just gives me confidence that I know what to expect every week, that I can travel with it, that I can go into enemy territory and execute through physicality and a talented physical runner, it’s just something we can count on..

Passing game, while important, just has more room for error..

This is what I would strive for when looking for my free agents and my draft picks..confident we have enough assets to get it done.

Oline/right tackle
Running back
Defensive star
Receivers/tight end-which ever is BPA.

I cannot disagree with your post and have been around awhile myself. Quarterback controversies in the past have not been condusive to having a great team. Somebody has to go.
So yes it's a gamble on many fronts are you creating a controversie and the cost of great draft capital or you missing out on a great opportunity.
Tua getting injured in college would weigh into my decision if I am Flores but logic says keep building the team.
At least I think we have found our first coach since Shula and as the old saying goes he could take his uns and beat your uns.
If Tua’s multiple injuries in college were considered...Herbert would already be here!

If privately, Ross, Grier and Flores are having 2nd thoughts on the Tua pick, then trading down makes sense. Admitting that they were wrong on Tua especially with Herbert going right after will be ALMOST impossible after 2 years. But my biggest point in all these threads is that admitting they were wrong after only ONE season is impossible. It's not going to happen. And I'm not even arguing if they should move on. I can't predict if Tua turns out great. All I'm saying is that they will not admit a mistake of this magnitude after one season. It would be professional suicide for Grier and possibly Flores.

I am sure it was which is why he did not start. As I stated have been around for awhile and they missed on Culpeper when the coaches believed our Doctors that just reminds you of 2 things doctors can be wrong and if a player has been injured before it does increase the injury bug in the future.

There have been many great teams that have built around the talent they already have. Regardless of what talent you have, having a qb that can make good throws, and reads will make the existing staff better. Not saying Miami has everyone they need right now but there are players in this team that seem to play better depending on who is throwing at them.

Either how, Parker hasn't exactly been the epitome of a consistent number 1 receiver. There are a bunch of number 2 receivers in the league that perform better than him. Our tight ends are pretty servicable. Regadless who starts at qb they need a reliable receivers corp. We don't need to spend a first round pick on a receiver. We need to build a solid line first. Then fil in the spots in defense as well. Trading down puts us at a better advantage if we can secure a 1st rd pick next year. So we can have 4 first round picks in a two year span.

First thing I had to do was press mute. Looked like Albert Wilson had a big game.

One problem with that "design" is that Ross has always had a boner for a high flying circus act O.

Perhaps his desires have changed (sans Viagra) but I still bet he looking for *flash* and jazz and not ground & pound.

What is truly great because is our coaching staff will get to coach the senior bowl because we have the 3rd pick in the draft and the top two teams do not have coaching staffs. That means we have time to coach players in a weird yr, there might be gems that respond to our staff, guys in the later rds Larry Tunsil is the gift that keeps on giving.

May I offer a possibility? You can spin anything anyway you want to these daze.
So many creative ways to "sell" any decision you make for a multitude of reasons.
I'd LOVE the Dolphins to contract with me to formulate the PR spin for WHY they
made the best possible choice based on ALL considerations to grab a QB @3.
That would be the easiest assignment I've had in a long, long time. It's called
win win. No way to deny the BEST option when it's an unexpected GIFT.

Every draft decides jobs.

Just because a fan or paid mouthpiece wants it to be important to prove a point or express unhappiness is irregardless.
