What do you gusy think Miami will focus on this season? I have to think Miami will be a run first team and establish the run early, then pass those killer accurate throws from Tua to Waddle or Hill or the #3 option? The biggest challenge I see there? is MCDUMMY not staying disciplined if the run keeps working. Regarldes we need a coach who can jsut be logical in play calling.

It should have always been a run first team under McD. It’s why I was so excited he got hired. His experience was in coaching Oline and being a run game coordinator. After Flo was fired I was hell bent on hiring someone that would allow tua to play more under center, more play action. That and RPO fits his skill set the most. However we’ve been so pass happy under McD for a variety of reasons. If this scheme w/ this QB is gonna work we have to be able to lean on a strong run game imo.

2022 we were a balanced multiple run team. With Connor Williams and Hunt we could run any scheme we wanted to. And we did pretty well. 2024 we got all finesse and was tons of stretch/zone and other reach or pull schemes. We need to get back to a multiple run game and commit to it.

Tua is limited there’s no doubt about it. So do what u can to protect the weaknesses. Run the ball, maintain the sticks, create more situations where we can stick to his bread and butter RPO and other 3 step drop stuff. In 22 and 23 we lost games when we got behind the sticks and had to throw our way back into things. Our downfield pass game in 2022 was largely off of play action and moving the launch point for tua.

If Daniels comes back healthy, this team will be more than fine running the ball. The addition of Gordon in the power run game in addition to the 2 new guards will be a boon to the ground game.

The movement ability of both guards brought in this off-season in this timing offense will open up the run game, which will lessen the extreme pass rush we saw last year.

Yes, the timing offense applies to the run not just the pass, which is why they targeted specific guards to upgrade the OL. They've got to get to their spots with precision for the plays to work whether it's a stretch, toss, counter, or pull.

The scrubs we had starting last year were always late, or had no functional ability to keep a block.

I'm also excited to see Johnnu being used starting week 1 instead of week 6 or 7 last year. The trio of Hill, Waddle, Johnnu was effective last year and we've added to that with NWI and the emergence from Malik.

Tua please do not run at a small DB and get concussed, stay healthy and let our playmaker make plays.

I think we'll see more balance. If teams continue to play two safeties deep, McDaniel has the talent on this team to exploit that in the run game.

It feels like the offense is set-up to be able to run and pass successfully. Four of the five projected starting offensive linemen are known more for their run blocking too. With Paul as the only exception. So, improvement there definitely feels like the goal.

The key is converted those short-yardage run plays. Keep drives going.

is he that good? I don't know much about him
I think he's good. He's getting criminally underrated due to an off year his final year in college. The talent is there, and if McDaniel gets the maximum out of him; he could be lights out. A true star. But again it's just my opinion.

dumb question
but he isn't like kallen ballage? Correct? Runs upright and has build and speed but sucks. That was worst back we had in a while. I assume they are totally different.

Think more like Derrick Henry with less speed. I think he's that kind if a back. He won't pull away for those big gains like Henry, but in terms of power and running style there are similarities. Gordon can also block, which means he could be on the field a lot on third downs

He got arrested summer of 2024, gained bad weight, and also had less team talent from previous season when he won Doak Campbell award. In 2023 he was around 210 pounds, in 2024 he was near 235 pounds, and was lackluster compared to the season before.

Which back are we getting? That's the question really. As a 6th round pick it's no big deal...but...if we get a motivated guy like 2023....look out!!

You never know. Lots of astute Finheaven brothers feel he's not very good, due to his upright running style. But in 2023, he won the Doak Walker Award, and with good reason. I believe McDaniel sees something in him. I may not like McDaniel very much, but the one thing he's been good at is finding a running back. If he believes in Ollie Gordon than so will I.

Just to point something out, Achane is a good fit with McDaniel. But he's on the smaller side. Something I was worried about regarding his selection. But I never doubted the talent. That's exactly how I see Gordon. I don't doubt the talent and love his fit with McDaniel. Let's see what happens. But I think at the very least, he'll give Miami a true running TD threat around the goal line and in short yardage situations. Quick nimble footed to make it through the pile. But if McDaniel can get his full potential out of him, the sky's the limit for him.

Sorry to nitpick @cullenbigcstill , but it's the Doak Walker award, Doak Campbell is the guy that FSU's field is named after. Easy mistake to make as these two are likely the only two humans to ever be named "Doak". :chuckle: Anyway, Ollie has been saying all the right things, saw some pics of him from rookie camp , he looks BIG, can't wait to see him next to Achane for reference. As for his DUI arrest, he was way below the legal limit, but since he was under 21 any alcohol detected is unacceptable so he was arrested. Doesn't sound like he's got a problem. Heard good things about his blocking and abilities in the passing game.
