2025 Offensive Guards

That's a long list of guards. I actually used a different draft website:

They have a list of 25 guards.

1. Luke Kandra CIN, 6-4 323 ranked 159 above.
2. Garrett Dellinger, LSU 6-5 322
3. Rocco Spindler, ND 6-5 331 transfer postal
4. Jeremy James, OleMiss, 6-6 325
5. Miles Frazier LSU 6-5 325
_____________
Missed the cut
Tyler Booker ALA
Logan Parr SMU
Micah Morris UGA

CENTERS
I also have Armand Membou MIZZ, 6-3 314 ranked 34 above, but I would not draft a 6-3 guard. Center, Perfect.
Joshua Gray, Ore St, 6-4 310. ranked 256 above, starting center. That's all for centers.

Appreciate the effort Largo, even though you are certifiable. ;)

Where would you have Campbell as an OG?

I think he would be an excellent pick for Miami to slot in at LG.

Campbell would not make the cut at guard. He would have to make it at tackle or move to center.
From the tackles list, here is the list of tackles who would make my cut at guard:

1. Jalen Travis, ISU
2. Wyatt Millum WVU (Tackle, I am not drafting him for a guard.)
3. Logan Brown, KU (Tackle, I am not drafting him for a guard.)
2. Jonah Savaiinea, AZ
5. Jack Neslon, WISC (Tackle, I am not drafting him for a guard.)
3. Josh Conerly ORE
7. Trey Zuhn TAMU (Tackle likely.)

Why don't you like him at OG?

One thing that bears repeating is that many of these guys are not suited for what our offense demands. Any of these guys that can't get outside are worthless to us. So, if you watch their film or read the analysis from the experts and it says something like "best fit in a power/gap system" or "cannot consistently reach the second level", just forget his overall rating, he can't play for us.

I like Will Campbell's "athletic profile" for a guard more than as a tackle, right now. We will see how he tests if he tests. Outlook can change based on athletic profile. My initial feeling based on his profile is he should move to guard.

However, after I did a deep dive on his athletic profile, his athletic grade dld not make the cut as a top guard. He is neither a top guard nor a top tackle, he is a tweener. Yes he can play, Eichenberg can play, but he is just not top tackle nor top guard, based on athletic profile. He is close, very close, but does not make the cut based on athletic profile, at either tackle or guard.

Compare that to Kelvin Banks who is also projected in first rounds. He is 6-4 320. Here there is no question. He is no tackle. He will play guard. Sink or swim.

For reasons not abundantly clear they seem to value mobility much more at OT and C than they do at OG. Just looking at the guys they've kept and let go. For example, if mobility is a priority at OG, why keep Cotton as a backup and let Driscoll go? I want to believe the same as you're saying, but I don't see the moves they make going along with it. Two OGs that are of the archetype you describe, and likely at least one is available at 98, are Luke Kandra and Connor Colby. Consider too, our offensive match is the 49ers. They did well with Tomlinson for several seasons at LG. Not the most mobile OG out there. They replaced him with another guy who's much the same, Aaron Banks.
However, when we had a healthy Wynn at LG, and Hunt at RG in 2023, the OL seemed to function much better. Both are former OTs. That should tell them something, and us too, I guess.

The Driscoll release really shocked me. I honestly thought he would easily make the team, maybe even start. I'd love to know what happened there. Was it a performance issue? Did he fail to pick up his assignments in camp? Attitude?

For those that said that we didn't even try to fix the weakness on the inside... they are wrong. It's just that what we tried... didn't work for some reason.

Sadly, no one will ever be honest about why this happened. Whatever it was, it would tell us a lot.

I agree about him being a OG, but I think he could be an outstanding one.

And Miami needs IOL more than OT.

Not thrilled with taking an IOL in R1 and I hope the Fins can address the need in FA with a solid vet or two.

Will Campbell will be a pure stud wherever he lines up. I'd not overthink things with him. If he is on the board at 13, you sprint the card up with his name on it.

I think he is going to be a consistent Pro Bowl OG and would jump on that at #13.He is a leader and a winner and all the things you want in an OL.He is going to be the leader of a good OL for a long time somewhere, hopefully Miami.

His arms are too short for some teams to put at OT so hopefully he makes it to Miami.

Right now my wish list would be:

1. Campbell
2.Pearce
3.Johnson
4.Banks
5.Warren
5.Membou
6.Starks

Most of these guys should be there with Johnson being the least likely.

Agreed.

Listen, if Miami could work their magic and somehow sign T. Smith. Imagine a line of Paul/Smith/Brewer/Campbell or Banks/Jackson.

We just got young and most importantly, minus Jackson healthy. Going into the season with only 1 injury prone player is doable, as opposed to the 3 we normally go with.

O line would be set for years. Then we can truly evaluate our offense, running game and Tua most importantly.
