I keep seeing posts that down AJ for having success against the second team. However, we are very happy to give all the accolades, to Crowder, Roth, Diamond and Boston for having success against the second team.

AJ looks this preseason the same as when he started and he outplayed Gus against the Bears when AJ was the starter.

I do not know why some of you are so down on AJ. The guy aplayed less than a full season of NFL ball, and half a season of college ball. He can make all the throws. And do not even bring that he only throws 10 yard argument up. He threw a laser for 20 yards that should have been caught by Donald Lee for a TD, and then came back and threw 36 for a TD. And speaking of his TD, it was the same pattern and the same throw that Gus tried to hit to Chambers where Chamber had to leave his feet and go out of bounds. Feeley hit the exact same throw to Farmer, led it outside, BUT still kept in the field of play.
Gus overthrew at least two or three big plays, AJ hit his.

I accpet that the QB position is going to struggle this year. However, it's time to give AJ his due. He shows up and is effective every week. The only thing he needs is more playing time.

Not really.

Ill argue that AJ and Gus both have many, many flaws. Neither one of them is starting caliber.

Gus overthrew some wide open receivers and made a couple of mistakes. AJ looked good throwing dink and dunk passes to the second string players against the 2nd and third string defense.

This was not a steller performance by AJ Feeley. All he did was execute the quick outs that Scott Linehan was calling. He did not have to make any decisions on his own, and he didnt face any pressure. Put AJ Feeley in the position that Gus was last night, and AJ Feeley would look equally bad or worse because he lacks the understanding of the offense and has poor decision making skills. He is a classic backup QB. He can execute simple plays that do not require him to improvise . He instantly locks onto the receiver that is supposed to be open and throws him the ball. If you watched the game last night, AJ never looked around the field. He knew exactly where he was going to throw the ball before the ball was even snapped. Robotic. The coaching staff knows this. They are aware of his limited abilities, and run these type of plays when he is in the game.

Now what happens when the play breaks down? What happens when the defense penetrates the offensive line? This is the sort of thing that AJ is not good at. He cannot improvise and find a secondary receiver. He throws the ball where the play said to throw the ball, and the result is a pick 6.

Now Gus isnt much better. Hes a mediocre QB. But he can run the offense and he can improvise when the play breaks down. He surveys the entire field before making the throw, although he doesnt always throw it in the right place.

So right now, the depth chart is as it should be. Gus is the starter, and AJ is the backup.

I know that many of you think that AJ should be the starter now, but put him in with the first team and he will continue to make the mistakes that have plagued him ever since he got here.

When all is said and done, Gus will be gone and be replaced with a REAL QB eventually. And AJ will remain here, as a backup.

Your right! correct! on track! true! what you said! and any other way you want to put it. The QB competition was slanted towards Gus, AJ has won it PERIOD! AJ isn't the best QB in the NFL and won't be on my fantasy football roster. But he is the best QB on the Dolphins roster.

This is not a very strong argument. What about the TD pass Feeley threw. the same one Gus missed? 36 yrds. What about the play just prior 20 plus yard dart that Lee dropped. AJ cna throw the longer pass when he has time and an open WR.
Even if I accpet your argument (which I don't) I can still say Feeley's short passes etc. keeps the chains moving and works. Gus's inaccuracy does not.
Sorry but the numbers really support AJ.

PS

What's up Tim!!! Ready for Fanatasy draft.?

When plays break down only a handful of QB's have the athleticism to improvise (McNabb, Vick, Roethlisberger, Favre). Not even Brady is worth a damn when his protection breaks down. That is a ridiculous argument.

If AJ starts we have a chance to make the playoffs. If gus starts we have a chance to have a top10 pick in the 2006 draft and will never know if AJ is/was the right QB for us.

I've stated this a few times in the multitude of quarterback posts.

Once, when I used it to refute one poster's argument that "he did it against the second team defense," the genius told me to stop making excuses...

He also had 3rd and 4th string O players to work with, thats probably what he meant by saying you are making excuses.

Maybe it was confusing the way I worded it, but I think you misunderstood. What you just said was my argument when someone said, "but feeley was playing against the second team D." Then he told me I was making excuses.

even when I look at how AJ played last year, I saw a lot of inexperience, terrible protection and no running game. He still made soem great throws and was a very competitive. He made some bone head decisions but I think that takes time and experience.

I don't know. I think if Linehan had not tabbed Gus as his boy, then we would be seeing AJ get the start.

Ah I see, he is obviously mentally challenged.

I agree. I hope were not seeing another one of these "loyalty" examples.

if it was truly an open competition AJ would be the leading candidate end of story.
