3-4 or 4-3

I would like to see a 3-4. I think switching to a 3-4 would allow us to have a more dynamic defense. We would be able to move J.T. around and Joey Porter would be able to blitz again; something that he is really good at doing. The only problem with this, IMO, is that we would be thin at the linebacker position with the LBs that we have. We would definately have to invest in some talent at the position for the 3-4 to work. We wouldn't want someone to get injured and not have anybody but special teams players to back them up.

I hate the 3-4. Most of the alltime great D's are 4-3. Pitt has a solid 3-4 system that is alright. Did you see what happened to that suposed greatest D ever of the Ravens when they switched. Our D was feared for years as a 4-3 and the Giants showed exactly why the 4-3 is a better D in the SB. The 3-4 sucks.

I would like to see the 3-4 Mainly because we pretty much have the Players for it we have the 2 OLBs and we have one MLB if Zach is traded or Cut

Our talent is geared towards a 4-3, but Parcells & Co. were brought in to play their system, so might as well start learning and retooling the team for the 3-4 this year when there's nothing really to play for. Regardless, we'll be playing a 3-4 and any personnel that doesn't fit will be moved if possible.

LB's can't influence the game the way a D-line can. Ask the Patriots. To run a 3-4 you need 3 pro-bowl caliber secondary players, 2 pro bowl OLB's, 2 book ends, and a pro-bowl NT. Do you realize why Pitt loses players every year and can't be consistant? It's because of something called a salary cap. The 3-4 is for teams that guess right on drafts and don't care to suffer on and off because of personnell mistakes. The 4-3 is the best D and is what will help have a consitant franchise that don't have to guess every year.

Thats not what Sparano said. Theres a thread that states he will run what D they feel is best. This is Sparano's team and like many other Parcells desiples, Tom Coughling for one, has already figured out that to have a consistant franchise the 4-3 is best suited.

It all depends on our personell. Last year J.T. hated to play end in a 4-3 again because t didn't allow him to freelance like he used to in Saban's scheme. I think what we will see in FA is some bigger people on the defensive front to help us make some transition to the 3-4.

I agree. Whatever scheme best fits our personel then draft/FA to solidify the mix.

The 3-4 has worked for the Patriots pretty well.

It tends to be easier when you know what the other teams plays are. Their are far more teams with the 4-3 that are consitant and all the alltime greatest is 4-3.

I agree 100% with G-force, the 3-4 is crap unless your team fits it pefectly. Most of our players are not viable in a 3-4 system (except JT and Porter, both of whom are old and won't be with us much longer). Also, if we go 3-4, we can't draft Glen Dorsey or Curtis Lofton.

It's a nice system if you have a lot of hybrid type linebacker/end players to play linebacker, and large run stopping DE's, and a mamouth NT but they are hard to find and if someone gets hurt, you're hard pressed to replace them.
