Despite a 5-5 record and still being alive in the playoff hunt, the 2018 season has been a contentious one for the Miami Dolphins. Both for the team itself, and within the fan base.

This year has been yet another season marred by injury, but that hasn’t stopped a portion of the fan base from calling for head coach Adam Gase to lose his job. Patience has worn thin for some, and not without reason.

I have this strange feeling that if we retain him next year the whole team collapses. I see similarities when Sparano (RIP) was on his way out. Both got their teams to compete and play hard. But their own egos kept them from reaching their full potential. Sparano have been well documented here. Gases are

The retention of Matt Burke and allowing him to run a horrible defense for 2 years. Whether he was forced to hire him or not, doesn't make sense to keep him at this point

His poor offense that he refuses to answer for. 20 games and counting where we haven scored on the opening drive. The offense can't score period

The consistent slow starts and blowouts in primetime which is alarming in his preparation

But somehow we use his lick to defy the odds and win games he shouldn't as a positive. That luck will run out. His message will wear thin as player will become frustrated with not winning out. There are plenty of reasons that we should be concerned about retaining him

Nice post brother! He also needs to be a head coach and manage the whole game. He needs to give up the offensive play calling. I am not sold on him anymore.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Just to examine the flip side of this for a moment, pretend you aren’t a Dolphins fan and consider the following:

1. Under Gase, the Dolphins reached the playoffs in 2016, a season with an abysmal start and with having to rely on the backup QB for the last four games.

2. 2017 was a bad season, but the Dolphins were forced into Jay Cutler at QB for a whole season.

3. This season, the Dolphins are at 5-5 despite 5 games with a backup QB, the loss for multiple games of several starters along the defensive line and offensive line, and the loss of its best offensive players.

As Dolphins fans, we see the offensive and defensive struggles and get frustrated. This is completely understandable. Objectively speaking, however, it’s actually possible to believe Gase has had this team outperforming expectations.

Personally, I feel there are a lot of reasons to be optimistic still about Gase. He is still young, has a definite vision for the team, we have acquired better personnel, and his teams don’t quit and actually seem to overachieve. There are definite negatives right now, with some questionable play calling and some questionable coaching staff, but he has shown a willingness to fire coaches and shuffle staff in the past. My biggest issue with him at present, though is play calling. I would like him to use his OC. If Gase can delegate play calling, look into the conditioning issues and make defensive staff changes at the end of the season, I would be perfectly content to retain him. This organization desperately needs stability at the HC position, and there are worse candidates than Gase for that.

He rode the coattail of Peyton Manning

*Sigh* Why do people continue to repeat this? Is it the fall back for don't really have a thought so go with the crowd? Peyton's best season was with Gase, Peyton's worst season(aside from rookie year) was without Gase(we are talking bottom 15% in the league), Gase and Manning benefited from one another. Now if somebody wanted to say Gase rode the coattails of a Wade Phillips led defense that provided the Offense amazing field position and turnovers numerous times... different story ;)

First I've seen it suggested Manning's struggles his last season were due to Gase leaving. Thats an incredible take.

Because it is fact. As much as some people want to change it, it is the truth. But in these times, I guess people just change the narrative to fit their argument.

Things that I think most agree about Gase.
1. He is not a good playcaller. This has been evident his entire time here, even the beginning of the year with a full roster. Even the games we won this year were only by one score
2. He cannot handle players who challenge him. He has them removed from the roster.
3. He is bad at evaluating QB talent.
4. He can't gameplan the beginning of a game to kill him. We always start slow.

Don't get me wrong, I don't always agree with Gase's philosophy on how to build a team, but considering who he has had to work with I think he has done a good job. It's too early to tell if he is a Super Bowl coach, but until he has a healthy starting caliber QB we really won't know what he is capable of.

The best thing he has done in Miami, and there is not many other good things, is have Rizzi on the coaching staff. The ironic thing is that he wasn't even a coach he hired as he was already with the organization. He hired a coke head for an OC and a moron(twice) for his DC. He has a RB that he rides to success in the running game in the last half of the season. So what do you do? Do you develop him and mold an offense to use his explosiveness and pass catching ability? No. You bring in Frank Gore, who I love and have much respect for, and give him the majority of the carries. These things along with the play calling and things previously mentioned are the reasons that he should be fired at the end of the season. But I wouldn't stop there. We need to blow up the FO and the whole coaching staff, except for Rizzi.

Why do you think he got the job? If not for Manning's reference, he wouldn't even have gotten an interview.

If his resume had to stand on its own, he would still be an OC..... Wait. What?

Seriously, look at his qualifications, or lack thereof. He doesn't have anything close to necessary experience.

Still, I'm not screaming for his head. He is learning on the job, and one must admit, he has had some crap luck. Stability, and consistency is needed to have success.

You really believe Gase made Manning a better player? I think that’s a stretch. Manning had that 150 year old OC in Indy all those years. That guy was a statue on the sidelines - I doubt he did much of anything either.
