I am not gonna predict the spot where we pick but i would imagine it will be the second half of the first round.
1st Round
Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State- Versatility-Able to play any spot in the secondary. Is tough enough to be a safety, is fast and instinctive enough to play corner. Tremendous ball skills. Very physical throughout the play. Able blitzer. Big upside. Rarely beat deep. And yes i think he falls to the mid first round he doesnt have the elite speed and if he runs a poor time at the combine he will fall to the 15-20 range plus alot of the teams in front of us need something other than CB.
2nd Rouns
A) Clint Sintim, OLB, Virginia-great pass rusher, can honestly beat any tackle off the ball and uses his hands well. Has a knack for the ball and causing turnovers. His stock is flying up but wont play in a bowl game so his stock may be hurt. He will be great on that strong side for a decade he a Peezy may be the nastiest pass rushing duo in the NFL.
B) B.J. Raji, NT, Boston College (I REALLY WANT THIS KID) -Thickly built. Can show bursts of quickness off the line. Naturally strong and can anchor. Can flatten down the line of scrimmage. Playing with a fury early in 2008 after being forced to miss the entire 2007 season through no fault of his own. Could be the best pure 3-4 NT prospect in the country. Brings a load, and moves it all very well. Pushes the double team block backwards, earns holding calls, active tackler for a defensive linemen, who plays with a LB mentality. Future NT and a stud to boot good size at 6-2 and has an ability to push the pocket to stuff the run and can also get after the QB.
3rd Round
Rashad Johnson, FS, Alabama-Johnson does not have incredible size for a safety (6'0'' and 187 pounds), so he is not one of those prototypical huge-hitting defensive backs, but he is a good hitter and a standout in pass coverage. He has outstanding vision and is great at reading quarterbacks. He has been used occasionally at cornerback for those reasons and his speed (around 4.4. in the 40-yard-dash) could enable him to make a permanent move to the outside at the next level. BP loves guys who can play in a number of places this guy is a ball hawk he may be small but he makes up for it with ball skills and intensity.
So our depth chart next season on D could be counting only on what we have and the draft no FA's. Bold are the draft picks.
Will Allen Langford Ferguson Holliday Malcolm Jenkins
Thomas Starks B.J. Raji Merling J. Allen
Sintim Crowder Ayodele Porter
Roth Torbor Moses
Bell Hill
Culver Rashad Johnson
I see Jenkins starting DAY ONE same with Sintim he will be a play maker on the strong side for years. Rashad Johnson and B.J. Raji will eventually work their way into the lineup just not right away.
So what do you think what needs work or is it good enough. What would you change?
