who told this guy to take the kickoff out of endzone?????

I started a thread along similar lines called "coaching question". Some people gave insightful replies in there. Some posters thought it's a 50/50 kind of thing since going 40 yards w no TOs against the D would have been very tough.

Exactly.

I liked grants chances of returning one then for use to get in fg range in 31 seconds

He was probably just trying to make something happen. It would have been better for him to take a knee, but I doubt it would have made a difference.

ok if there was a minute and 30 then ok 50/50 but 31 seconds u dont waste 1 second and 25 yard line is great start to have to only drive 40 yards for a long fg attempt

Grant has a better chance of busting a long return in this case. Then have 30 seconds only being able to use the sidelines.

if you are risking the return you might as well get really creative and surprise them. I wanted to see a lateral.

I don't think I would call the 25 yard line with no timeouts and 30 seconds a great start. I think you're going to lose in that situation 9 out out of 10 times. Let's say the shoe was on the other foot. If Miami's up by two with 30 seconds to play and Seattle had the ball on the 25 with no time outs wouldn't you expect that to turn into a win? Or would you be thinking this is a loss, Seattle should score here? Of course as we've learned in the recent past that's not always the case, but the odds are greatly stackd in the favor of the defense. I guess I should have said in most cases the offense is going to fail in 9 out 10 chances. If it's against Miami's defense it a 50/50 shot.

There's a way better chance of Grant breaking that return than our offense being able to generate any kind of meaningful play against deep zone coverage AND being able to stop the clock.

I disagree that there's any kind of good chance that Grant "does something" there. Granted, Miami was almost certainly going to lose no matter what thanks to the spendthrift use of time-outs during the Seattle drive. But that's neither here nor there. The most likely outcome of Grant's play is that Miami ends up with worse field position and less time on the clock.

If Miami is in that situation, but up by 2 and kicking off, I'd love it if the other team tried running it out-- unless the guy running it out was Devin Hester, Gayle Sayers, Deion Sanders, etc.

yes i agree we fail like that often but lets ask how many big returns has he had? i just rather have multiple chances then get f#$%#d on a ****ty return

Our special teams seem to be completely unaware of the new 25yd line rule. They kick off out of the ends one, like its a good thing, and bring it out of the end zone as well as if 25 yd line is not a great deal....

Well RT has been with this team for years and has never hit a pass on a last gasp drive, in fact he usually gets sacked which is what he did today.

Again, kick returns are broken all the time. Going down the field with no timeouts and so very little time almost never happens.
