I live in PA and coverage of Dolphin games is non-existant this year. I look at the gamebook from nfl.com to get the results and from what I see, there is a trend that I'm not used to seeing.
It seems like we can't stop opposing offenses on 3rd & long if we don't sack the QB.
Against Qakland they gave up three 3rd downs of more than 8 yds, one of them over 14yds. I noticed this in almost every game this year.
For us to turn the corner as some of our fans believe we have, I think we have to correct this as well as have more consistancy in the kicking game as Mare missed another chip-shot.
Can anyone who has seen the games provide me with some insight as to what is happening on these plays as well as Mare's inconsistancy?

we haven't turned a corner yet... people just a little too optimistic over a single victory.
But to your comment.. we have a real issue in shutting teams down on 3rd down. Our secondary is swiss cheese..
I do believe though that if our D-line can contain and pressure like they did in Oakland... we can drop some LBs into coverage.
That being said.. In Oaklan Bell had a penalty when Oakland was 3rd and 29 or something.. we dropped 7 guys into coverage... Somehow, The ball found it's way to the receiver.... any other team would've.. should've picked it off!

We stopped them on to 3rd and long twice, but they were wiped out by bad calls...

That's the play Saban was ticked-off at the officials!

Our weak secondary has to take most of the blame for not being able to stop teams on third down. This is also the reason that teams have been running all over the perimeter.(Jones getting injured did not help, he was the best tackler in the secondary. You can not ignore the horrible calls going against us every game either.

Mare is gone after this year. This guy makes way to much money to be missing FGs all the time. I hope next year we get a rookie place kicker. He will be much less money, and we will understand a rookie missing FG or two.

why does everyone want mare gone does he miss a FG every now and then? yes...does he probably make too much money? yes...but who are we gonna get thats better than him? some kicker thats bounced from team to team or a rookie would you really want to spend a pick on a K or put some games in the leg of a UDFA rookie K there will be noone we could get thats a better option than mare should he re-structure yes but still cutting him may only make things worse

Our secondary is not good. It is that simple.

It should get better next year with the return of Will Poole but we need to use one of our top 3 picks on a DB

That's what people were saying about Matt Turk. Look at Donnie Jones, this guy is great and cheap. Sure Donnie has had a couple bad kicks, but he's a rookie and getting better every week. Mare is one of the highest paid kickers in the NFL, if Mare doesn't restructure then I think he is gone next year. Saban has showed he's not scared to start a rookie that has potential. If there is a kicker in the later rounds that could come in and start, then Mare will at least have to step up his game or find another job. I'm sure there is a team out there that will over pay him as soon as we cut him.

I can see missing an occasional 40+ yarder. Mare's missed 4 fgs this year, 3 inside 35yds. He hasn't been a top-rate kicker in the last 3-4 years now. Time to move on!

donnie isnt a rookie and he went to LSU so saban had some inside info on him...i think we will ask him to restructure but if he doesnt i still dont know if hes gone.

Excuse me, he is a second year player. He is still doing a great job and saving us lots of money.

We shouldn't have released Matt Bryant when Mare was better. I'm sure there's someone coming out in the draft next year worth looking at.

no doubt ,but saban knew about this guy and unless saban has a former K lookin for work i dont see mare going anywhere.
