Adam Carriker DE 6'6 295 Nebraska
By: Robert Davis
Carriker starter to come into his own during his sophomore season with the Huskers, after posting 36 tackles, seven for loss, and three sacks despite battling an ankle injury. He blew up as a junior, becoming one of the most feared ends in the country, finishing with 43 tackles, 17 for loss, and 9.5 sacks. Carriker didn’t disappoint as a senior, as he again was an all around force. He had 34 tackles, 13.5 for loss, and six sacks on the year, to go along with an interception.
Adam Carriker is an interesting blend of talent. He has excellent size and strength, but has the athleticism to go along with it. He is already bigger than a lot of NFL defensive ends, and has the strength to push tackles out of his way. He has the ability to bull rush lineman, and can also hold his ground at the point of attack. Carriker has been a productive pass rusher in college, and knows how to get to the quarterback. He also has good straightline speed for a player his size.
While he is a good athlete for a player his size, he is not the freak many people make him out to be. He probably lacks the explosive quality you look for in top tier defensive ends. He has bulked up to 295lbs this year, but he doesn’t look to have the same agility he had prior. Adam Carriker is a player that shows nice all around skills, and should be a complete defensive end at the next level. He may be best suited as a 3-4 end because of his size and power, and lack of explosive pass rush ability off the edge. Carriker reportedly is a great workout player, and may be a player who impresses a lot of people in the post season. If he lands in the Top 50, he has probably gone too high, but he should be a Day One pick.

Earl Everett LB 6'3 234 Florida

Having an immediate impact in the SEC is a tough thing to do, but Earl Everett did just that as a freshman in 2003. He finished the year with 52 tackles, three for loss, and three sacks. As a sophomore he improved to 69/5.5/4.5 and earned 2nd Team All SEC honors in the process. Everett had similar numbers as a junior, where he finished with 67/4/1 to go along with two picks. As a senior, he posted a career high 78 tackles, six for loss, and one sack on the year.
Everett is a very good athlete with excellent speed. He has the speed to chase plays down all over the field. His combination of speed and athleticism allow him to drop into coverage and stay with most backs and tight ends. He has a lot of experience inside, but his talent projects better to the outside. That could give him added value because of his ability to play multiple spots in a pinch.
Like most speed linebackers, Everett does not fare well at the point of attack. He can be taken out of running plays by blockers, and he does not get off blocks well. He’s going to have to get stronger to improve his all around skills. For a team looking for an attacking linebacker, Everett would be a great choice. He is aggressive and pursues well, but he probably would not be the best fit if asked to read and react all the time. He needs to be allowed to attack to reach his full potential. He should hear his name called in the second round at some point.
Brandon Siler, Florida, Jr 6'2 230 ILB,
Brandon Siler has declared for the 2007 NFL Draft. Siler, a junior inside linebacker for the Florida Gators, finished the season with 69 tackles, including 4 tackles and 1 sack in the National Championship Game. Siler was one of the leaders for the Florida Gators’ dominant defense. Siler could have improved his draft stock by staying for his senior year but leaving now guarantees him a spot in the first day.
Siler is a very athletic inside linebacker. His speed (ran a 4.59 second 40 yard dash coming out of high school) allows him to make plays from sideline to sideline which is very important for linebackers in today’s NFL. Also, his speed will allow him to develop into a quality player in coverage. Siler has good height at 6 feet 2 inches for the linebacker position but he will need to fill out his 235 pound frame at the NFL level. At his current weight, Siler may be a bit too small to take on blockers in the NFL but he does play a lot bigger than he is plus he has the frame to easily add weight.
Siler is the type of player that can come into the NFL and make an immediate impact because of his physical gifts. He should be a mainstay in the middle of a team’s linebacker unit for years. Also, Siler has the leadership qualities that teams look for in an inside linebacker and he could make a contribution that way as well. Siler looks to have a promising career ahead of him in the NFL and he would make a good value pick in the second round. Drafting a talented but unheralded like we did with Crownder in the third. I read notes on Siler that he is more talented than Crownder.
Kareem Brown Height: 6-5 | Weight: 315 | 40-Time: 5.10
Has excellent size and a big frame with long arms...Good strength...Stout and can hold his ground at the point...Athletic and quick with a burst...Is able to penetrate and collapse the pocket...Playmaker who shows glimpses of greatness...Effective against both the pass and run...Had a great final campaign...Has a lot of upside.
Anthony Waters ILB | (6'2
", 240, 4.62) | CLEMSON: Possesses outstanding height and bulk. Is an instinctive and physical linebacker. Shows enough size and strength to take on blockers in the phone booth. Displays good straight-line speed for his size. Gains momentum as he goes and shows good closing burst -- versus the run and as a pass rusher. He shows a good knack for finding creases on the blitz and he also does a good job of getting off blocks once reached. He can be very effective as a pass rusher. Displays adequate range in zone coverage. Reads keys quickly and won't take a lot of false steps. Knocks down a lot of passes in front of him. Is relentless in everything aspect of the game. Plays with great passion and toughness.
Baraka Atkins DE | (6'4
", 280, 4.85) | MIAMI (FLA.): Possesses very good agility for his size. Versatile defensive lineman with experience at DE, DT and NT in a 4-3 scheme. He fires out of his stance with excellent quickness and leverage. Shows the initial burst to consistently penetrate inside. He is very quick and powerful in the short-area. He penetrates, finds the ball quickly and shows the ability to redirect seamlessly when necessary. An explosive tackler with good power. He displays good power moves as a pass rusher. Does a nice job of standing the offensive lineman up with an initial power move, and then change directions once his opponent is off-balance. He gives a very good effort on the field and will pursue relentlessly until the whistle. He has had some nicks throughout his career but for the most part he has been durable. Also has great experience.
Ikaika Alama-Francis DE/OLB Hawaii, 6'5 265 lbs; 40 time 4.75
Ikaika Alama Francis was a relative unknown in NFL Draft circles until this season. Alama-Francis, a senior defensive end for the Hawaii Warriors, has seen his stock soar in recent weeks. His statistics are adequate (10 tackles for a loss, 4 sacks this season) but his production on the field is not what has scouts talking. Alama-Francis is a hard-working player with a great blend of size and athleticism (former basketball player).
Alama-Francis hasn’t solidified himself anywhere in the draft yet. He has the potential to go anywhere from the 1st round to day two. If Alama-Francis can prove to scouts that he is a freak of nature, he should hear his name called in the first two rounds of the NFL Draft. However, if his athleticism is not as advertised, Alama-Francis could slide into day two. During the Hula Bowl the Alama-Francis showed off his potential looking like a unblockable beast constantly beating blocks and pressuring the QB until he left early with an injury.
