I know this question has probably already been asked before but will the phins play more of a 4-3 or 3-4 alignment next year with Capers as the defensive coordinator? I personally think the 3-4 with Arrington and Taylor as ends would give teams headaches, thoughts?

Last year we ran the 3-4 25% of the time so with the addition of Dom Capers it will probably increase to at least 50% of the time.

Saban is a complex individual, much like Bill Belichek, in that he likes to give the other team multiple looks with multiple pressure points. I imagine we will run a combination of the 3-4 and 4-3 next year.

NO MATTER WHAT WE WILL RUN MORE OF THE 3-4 NEXT YEAR!!!!

Not entirely correct....

I highly prefer a 4-3 Defense, but i'll take whatever i'm given as long as it works.
Well then you probably dont prefer what we play.

Both. one will never know, which is a good thing.
Not really........ teams know.

I dont believe any of the above posts are true. We play an over/under 3-4. The reason its classified as a 3-4 is we play 3 down lineman and because of the positioning of our NT. We dont play a TRUE 3-4 in terms of responsibilities and assignments, its more of a hybrid 3-4 defense.

That's what i like to hear, very well put. Bring Sam Adams we need him to clog the middle.

What do you mean by over/under?

They are different types of fronts we use. You can tell the difference in what type of basic front we are in by the OE's position.

In your normal 3-4 you have 3 down lineman and a designated ROLB and LOLB. We dont have that. We play a hybrid style of a 3-4 defense with JT playing an OE position, then we have the WLB, MLB, and SLB.

i was a 3-4 guy...but know after seeing what new englands and pitts 3-4 can do to confuse a qb i am leaning towards a 3-4.....linebackers can come from anywhere in the 3-4 defense!

Hybrid 4-3/3-4 with a 2-5 on occasion and a 5-2 also! Confusion and blitzes coming from anywhere, anytime.

With our secondary the way it is right now, the 4-3, no question about it. Our secondary will look all-pro if our line can create constant pressure. Unless we bulk up our secondary and get some speedrushing linebackers we should stick with more 4-3

ummmm. no. Read my post. Thanks for playing. Also Capers is a 3-4 specialist. Why the heck would we play a 4-3 next year?

Dont post if you have no idea what you are talking about.

Thanks for clearing that up. Do you think there are disadvantages/advantages to playing our 3-4/4-3 alignment as opposed to just a 3-4?

Coach Saban himself said it was a 3-4 defense that took advantage of "some" 4-3 alignments. Miami has a 3-4 defense.
