It's hard to believe we're only 28 days from the start of training camp 2012. I can't wait. This has been a LONG off-season. It's always too damn long. It's time for some football!!

It can't get here fast enough!

Time flies by! Seems like only yesterday we were waiting on Jeff Fisher to make his decision.

And theirs so much going on this year, you've got the Olympics, Elections, Hard Knocks, the Mayan calender end date, and then the actual 2012-2013 season.

Hope I'm alive to see it all...

I feel like a little kid in the back seat of a car on a long road trip. "Are we there yet?!"

I am sick of all the articles and predictions with new ways for people to take shots at Miami and basically say the Dolphins suck. Just want this to start so this team and can start working to prove people wrong.

Looking forward to all those training camp reports from attending fans (since local media reports are usually crap). Some fans reports make you feel like you're right there watching it. Wish I lived closer to Florida so I could attend practices.

I know 28 days isn't a long time, but for some reason it sure seems like it!

Can someone explain to me the practical reasons why the NFL season is so short?

I'm Irish and a Fins fan for a long time, but the season scheduling constraints are beyond me. In rugby, a roughly analogous collision-based team sport, the idea of playing every single weekend in a compressed season is unthinkable. For the fans, the season is over too quickly and for the players, they need more recuperation/preparation time between games to prolong their careers.

Is there any practical reason why the NFL season couldn't have at least 5 or 6 bye weeks in it and therefore last well into the spring? Waiting 13 days for the next game is a lot easier than waiting 8 or 9 months for the season to start back up. Players would benefit, coaches would benefit, advertisers/sponsors would benefit, I'm sure TV scheduling issues with other sports could be resolved. Ambulance-chasing lawyers might suffer, as there would be fewer career-ending or incapacitating injuries to sue over. But everyone gets what they want.

Or is it not that simple?
