40 Years Ago - Dolphins 3rd best Victory?

That was an awesome game and definitely #3 for me. I was on the edge of my seat every play. Back then the undefeated meant something to me. It's been so long I almost want someone to join us in perfectville now. Somehow, I think that would remove the hex from this organization. It's the only thing that could explain the bad late season problems that have plagued this organization for 50 years.

I remember thinking the Dolphins had a chance because of Marino. When the broadcast began and they showed some of the 72 Dolphins on the sidelines with arms crossed like they were ready to go into the game, I know I was inspired, so the 85 Dolphins had to be too. The fans were absolutely apeshit the whole game. When the deflected pass was caught for a touchdown, I knew we were meant to win. It was glorious!

I was 12 years old when that game happened. I remember walking into school the next day wearing my Dolphins Starter jacket being like...

It ranks up there for sure. Maybe the best regular season win.

But I think the 1984 AFC Championship game win over Pittsburgh, where Marino had four touchdowns and 421 yards, and the Christmas day playoff win over the Chiefs in 1971 are both in play for third best ever.

The AFC Championship wins over Pittsburgh in 1972 and Oakland in 1973 as well.

ahhhh that 84 AFC Championship game.... good times.

Absolutely deserves to be the #3 greatest Dolphins victory, but I still say that had they had a Super Bowl rematch against the Bears, it would’ve been an absolute butt-whoopin. Everything worked to perfection on that Monday night and the chances of the Dolphins beating the Bears twice that year were negligible at best. The Bears were just more talented on both sides of the ball and ran into an absolute buzzsaw that Monday night.

not to mention McMahon would have been back for the Super Bowl instead of Fuller.

After the 2 SB wins is this the third best win in Dolphins history?
Pity they had 6 turnovers in the AFC Championship game or it could of been a very interesting return game in the SB.

We should have been facing those Bears a 2nd time, not those far outmatched Patriots that won legit (Which is rare for the Patriots), but very obviously surprised the Dolphins in the championship (Not taking anything from that Pats team, but very obvious the Dolphins were looking passed the Pats to a 2nd meeting with those monsers of the midway).

I am sure the Bears would have loved to get that rematch in the Superbowl, and the Shula coached, Marino QBed Dolphins team would have loved to prove that win in Miami was no fluke.

Ive said here before that loss to NE really hurt. The team was flat. Ill prepared. Fumbled early (first play and or first series?) and often.

NE just ran and ran… Miami’s defence was soft.

Not a good memory. I was a university sophomore.

Yes, I think so. A favorite of mine is the rematch with the Chargers in the '82 playoffs. Miami intercepted Fouts five times and won 34-13.
