Team: Miami Dolphins
What they did last year: 4-12
What they've done in the off-season:
Acquisitions: Ricky Williams (retirement) Kevin Carter (DL, Ten), Vonnie Holliday (DT/DE, KC). I like Ronnie Brown to learn and play a year with Ricky before they trade Ricky to a team in desperate need of a running back (You heard it here first, Seattle) in 2006. I don’t like Matt Roth at DE especially when they needed a Wide out AND a Defensive tackle worse than another under-sized defensive end. Channing Crowder is going to make a great replacement for Zach Thomas in 2006.
Departures: Jay Fiedler (QB, NYJ), Morlon Greenwood (LB, Hou), Bryan Robinson (DT, Cin), and David Boston. (WR, released), Patrick Surtain (CB, KC)
Expectations/outlook for this year: Look for the transition from the old Miami Dolphins to the new look Nick Saban Dolphins by 2007. The best chance for this team to win is by ball control and having two running backs that can carry the ball 20+ apiece is critical to this team’s success. Chris Chambers is a great #2 receiver, but he’ll have to serve as the #1 on a team that is in desperate need for another big-play threat. A.J Feeley is unproven, the offensive line is shaky at best and the defense lost key ingredients in Tim Bowens and Patrick Surtain. They are under-sized on the defensive line, slow at linebacker where an infusion of youth (Channing Crowder) is desperately needed. The secondary is this team’s defensive strength with Lance Schulters expected to be the starting free safety on Opening Day. With Schulters, Tebucky Jones and Sam Madison, it should be hard on opposing teams to throw the ball. The Dolphins should have brought in some competition for Olindo Mare (75% on his FGA’s last year). Look for another long year on South Beach.
