We could pull of the 5-2

RE- Taylor
DT- Carter
NT- Traylor
DT- Zgonina
LE- Holliday or Bowens

Seau and Thomas as lBs

And then they throw the ball and we complain that Sam Madison sucks. You can't even run a 5-2 in college, forget the NFL.

It isn't a matter of running the 5-2 if you ask me -- it's giving a QB that 5-2 look at will any time Nick thinks it is a good idea.

It's not a high school team.

you should investagate some of the strange configurations Bill Belicheck used in the Superbowls. One of them was a 0-6-5 thing

A 5-2 defense is a goal-line defense with a little more coverage. Like someone mentioned above, teams stack the line and dare you to throw it. Very similar to what most high schools run. Will never work on a regular basis in the NFL.

He ran a 1-6-4 with 3 blitzing linebackers which is essentialy a 4-3.

Running the 3-4 is like running the 5-2, except your outside defensive ends are actually just big linebackers who can passrush and are skilled at dropping back in coverage.

Seriously, the starting defensive line of

DE Jason Taylor
DT Vonnie Holliday
NT Keith Traylor
DT Kevin Carter
DE David Bowens

That happened probably on about half a dozen plays last night...it's just JT and D-Bo were both linebackers. Switch out David Bowens for Donnie Spragan and you've basically got our starting lineup in the 3-4.

That worked because it's something crazy and different. A 5-2 base would make half your defense linemen (not exactly the fastest guys), and the other teams would just know to throw all the time. Not exactly a good gameplan.
