5 biggest Supplemental Busts

With the NFL Supplemental Draft looming and talented players like Virginia LB Ahmad Brooks available to any NFL team, the GMs and personnel guys around the league have a huge choice to make.

Should NFL teams now go for a talented player that wasn't eligible for this spring's draft? Or, should they hold off this summer and save that pick for next year's regular draft?
If a team selects a guy in this year's supplemental draft, they do get someone ready to help out immediately.
However, if you get the guy, next April, you give up an equivalent selection in the regular NFL Draft. Sometimes, the reward does outweigh the risk. Many times, it doesn't. It's a tricky situation for NFL teams and an even bigger guessing game than the normal draft.

I just want the thing to happen soon and get it over with. I'd love for Ahmad Brooks to end up a Fin in the 3rd. I know people are tired of losing first day picks but it's not losing a first day pick, it's spending one...big difference.

And heck, for those people who actually believe a 4th rounder today is worth a 3rd rounder next year (I personally don't believe in that), getting Ahmad Brooks in the 3rd is like spending just a 4th on him to you guys so I mean heck ya gotta feel happy about that.

To me, I'm a believer that a 4th rounder can be dang near as valuable as a 3rd if you know what you're doing. Teams take to the draft with machetes and hacksaws on the first day to grab the guys they targeted, and end up letting a whole lot of value slip to the ground. The 4th round is the time for teams to step back, look at what just happened and say...crap, that guy shouldn't have fallen.

Some of those guys were only considered busts because they were chosen in the first round! If they were chosen in the third or fourth round then no one would care and I don't think Ahmad Brooks is going to be drafted in the first round so I believe he will not be a bust and he will be great for whatever team he goes to!

What I found interesting was that most of the busts were QBs. And their teams burned 1st round picks on them.

That makes me feel better if we get Brooks with a 3rd. And it's a real possibility he could contribute by the end of this season.

But it may all depend on what San Fran is willing to give up for Brooks.

For some reason, I keep getting the feeling SF is going to offer their 2nd for him. No real evidence to back it up, just a gut feeling.

As for the busts... Wow, interesting group there. I think Walsh was a good pick, definitely not needed by Dallas, but not a bust.

Ahmad has had NO issues with crack. It was Mary J, but hopefully he is over that. He seems to have gotten away from it anyways. This kid is definately worth a 3. You should do some background checking on Ahmad you'll be impressed.:wink:

He has the type of size, speed and agility combination you look for at the position, he somewhat resembles current NFL linebacker "Ray Lewis", but he is a both taller and bigger and he is similar in his approach to the game, he has a fire and intensity that is rare getting to the ball carrier, he is a no nonsense type of player that once he arrives to the ball he explodes through the tackle and gives no extra yards after contact

Positives:
Ahmad Brooks is a big, multi-tooled 'backer with plenty of power coming from the middle linebacker position, plus his combination of size and speed means that he will be able to operate in virtually any defensive system in the NFL. Brooks is also one of the finest tacklers in college football, showing good wrap-up on virtually all of his tackles.
Negatives:
There isn't a whole lot missing with Brooks. He will sometimes show a lack of patience when facing a screen or other slowed-down play, but between the faster pace of the NFL and added experience, that problem should correct itself.

i would personally never trust looking for a qb in the supplemental draft, ive never heard of a qb comming from the supplemental draft that i remember of being any good....i may not really know what im saying because there may be someone good who i didnt know was found from the supplemental draft but if there was could someone tell me who?

I absolutely agree with you there CK. At times I'm completely baffled by posts stating "we need to save our draft picks", "we need to stop spending these draft picks".
