Taco Charlton – DE – Michigan

Michigan players are getting a lot of mentions this year especially after owner Stephen Ross thumped his fist half-joking and said he would push for Michigan players but wouldn’t really hold anyone to drafting them.
Enter Taco Charlton.
Charlton is a big 4-3 DE that would slide into the Dolphins rotation on day one. He has very good size and initial speed out of the snap and is capable of playing both sides of the defensive line although he has had more success against right tackles. In other words he would be more of a replacement for Cam Wake than a solution on the opposite side.
Where Charlton ends up on this list is located in his weaknesses. He is a two move player off the edge with a solid swim and spin technique according to Ian Wharton of NFL Film Study. But where he really is challenged is in the one area Miami needs to the most help. Against the run.

Pat Elflein – G – Ohio State

To be honest I really like Elflein as a prospect for the Miami Dolphins and this is really more or less a player that Miami shouldn’t touch in round one. I know the saying, “if a player is a starter in round two he is a starter in round one” but value is a priority here.
The Dolphins have not been specifically linked to Elflein any more than they have Forrest Lamp who many believe is a Dolphins day one target. The truth is that if Miami wants a guard outside of Lamp they can find the same types of players with the same upside in round two or even round three.

Jake Butt – TE – Michigan
I really hate picking on the Michigan players today especially because they are my favorite college football team. That being said Michigan is good because of the schemes they run and how they use or don’t use their players. It’s a different game in the NFL.

Many believe that Butt will go in the 3rd round or later in this years draft. It would be hard to knock the Dolphins taking him with the first compensatory pick of round three but Miami only has one 3rd round pick and that is the comp pick.

Like with Elflein Miami has more needs and TE isn’t one of them right now especially one with a serious injury history.

Fabian Moreau – CB – UCLA
Moreau is a solid cornerback with a really nasty injury history. In 2015 Moreau suffered a Lisfranc fracture in his foot. He returned in 2016 until he suffered a shoulder injury but this 2nd round projection should be off the Dolphins radar.

The Dolphins can’t afford to take more risks with players and a Lisfranc injuy is one that can reappear at any time over his career and yes, if severe enough, it can threaten that career.

Jabrill Peppers – S – Michigan
It’s a good thing that Peppers is number five because I think I have picked on my fave Michigan a little too much today.

Peppers ia s a great athlete and that says a lot about him. He also has a football attitude similar to that of Jarvis Landry. He loves to play the game and he loves to win.
What really stands out with Peppers is the fact that he can play safety or linebacker or even run out of the slot on offense but this is where the rub comes in. He is good at all three but he is great at none of them. Versatility should make him a first round pick but for the Dolphins they need a players who can excel at one spot.

I have peppers, elflein, Butt and charlton all high on my list. I like this guys opinions! Lol.

Disagree with Peppers and Taco. Peppers has such a skill set that paired up with Jones, Howard, and Maxwell gives us a lot of flexibility for the next few years. Since so many teams play nickel and dime to match up with pass happy offenses his presence helps matchup vs tight ends and stick his nose in to stop the run. It's like having an extra LB vs the run if teams run on passing downs.

I haven't seen as much of Charton but the kid has impressed me with his skill set. He could beef up against the run, but isn't that why we brought in the mermaid lover? Taco will have a year to get better vs the run and in the meantime he can pass rush opposite Wake

I really like Peppers too. I would not be sad at all if he was a Fin. I just dont know enough about Charlton. I highly doubt we're drafting an injured CB

I much prefer Charles Harris to Taco Charlton. I don't see it with Taco.

Peppers looks like a dynamic player who will find his role and likely excel at it. I just think that ideal role is the same one occupied with Reshad Jones.

Pat Elfein would be a great pick in the second round, nuff said.

Jake Butt might represent excellent value at 97 but with the needs we have, I have a hard time seeing him selected by Miami. He's either worth a higher pick to someone else who has more picks and a bigger need at TE, or he isn't worth that pick. Either way, it's very unlikely he's being considered for pick 97.

I don't know enough about Moreau, other than his injury, to have an opinion.

I don't agree with most of these.

I think the light went on for Charlton and there just aren't too many guys with his size, speed and ability. Miami has undersized DE's who aren't good against the run. I think Charlton could be a nice fit.

Elflein wouldn't make sense in the first, but would be perfect in the second or early third. Butts could be a value pick later in the draft. I'd avoid him in the first three rounds, though.

Peppers is one of the most exciting players in this draft IMO. I know there are a lot of differing opinions on his ability. He certainly isn't a linebacker. I will say this. Mike Mayock has Peppers as his top safety, which leads me to believe he sees his "weaknesses" as coachable issues. Mayock's best work IMO is in evaluating defensive backs so that speaks volumes that Peppers is ahead of Adams and Hooker.

Damn, dk.... I'm pretty sure fisi beat you to the punch on this same exact article lol
