Who are us media types watching closely at the open practices?

  1. Ryan Tannehill — Coaches say Tannehill’s mobility is already up to par and he’s converting a plethora of unscheduled plays. Has Tannehill really picked up where he left off when he was playing great ball at the end of 2016? Is Tannehill now making decisions so quickly at the line of scrimmage that the Dolphins are finally ready to go at warp-speed pace? How quickly is Tannehill getting on the same page with so many new teammates

To me the drafting of Fitz feels like the FO finally got their star player. One who will make an impact out of the gate. I can't even think of the last time our 1st round pick did that at an elite level. Jake Long maybe in 2008 maybe but that was the #1 overall. Pouncey was good but....

The guys name missing in this article is Jordan Phillips, IMO. The next in line would also be a DT but we won't know much until the pads come on.

Yea I think trench play has less emphasis in mini camp, which is why there were no linemen named.

Mini camp is a time for the skill guys to shine.

Training camp, the focus will be on guys like Phillips, Godchaux, Kilgore, Davis, etc.

The guy nobody is talking about is Tankersley. I think he should be on this list.

Those are the exact 5 I'll be watching, and each of his reasons are succinct and on point. Well done piece of writing by Joe Schad.

Some of these stories will, obviously, take longer to unfold than can really be determined during this phase. Things like the rookies adjusting to the pro game, getting their assignments and chemistry down, or how quickly Tannehill snaps back into form. But some things, like how quickly Raekwon starts taking charge of the front 7, I think we'll be able to tell right away.

The passing game usually takes until around game 4 of the regular season to start firing on all cylinders, so don't be surprised if we look a little hot and a lot cold during pre-season with Ryan coming back after an extended layoff, working in two veterans WR's (Amendola and Wilson) and two rookie TE's (Gesicki and Smythe). Tannehill will need a lot of reps to get there, so let's be patient.

I will not be paying much attention to the trenches yet. The OL/DL play is nearly impossible to gauge at this stage because until the OL gets pads on (and can grab effectively), the OL production and development is minimal. Thus, the DL effectiveness is a mirage and cannot be properly evaluated.

Likewise, at this point of the season the run game is in spandex, so we learn nothing. Sure, scat backs look fast and quick … when DL and CB's can't get an arm on them and LB's and S's can't line them up and thump them into the cheap seats. Power backs look fat and sluggish, and everyone is disappointed with them. LB's only look good when pass rushing against air. Everyone is open. Every QB is generously throwing picks. Some of the stuff just isn't worth fretting about when they do it poorly. I'll be taking a few choice positives here and there and looking to see if it becomes a trend. But other than that … let's look at the timing, organization, route running, athleticism and hands of the WR's, TE's and RB's. Very little else translates. For defenders, we're looking for how well they know their assignments and how well they capitalize on those generous QB's.

I would also add Lippett to that list as well.

Reading Armando’s latest article the 2nd corner spot needs to be something that the media should focus on.

I still think Miami needs to put in a pick for Adonis Alexander in the supplement draft.

In a perfect world, Tankersley comes in improved, Lippet is healthy and we are 4 strong at CB with guys like the 6th rounder Armstrong, McTyer and the shitload of young UDFAs we have brought in.

As for Alexander, I don’t see him getting past the third . . . I would be comfortable with Miami taking him there . . . .but my gut tells me a late two team will pull the trigger.

I’m just judging on what was in the article. That Tabk hasn’t quite grabbed that spot yet. Now I’m rooting for him to be great, but you gotta be realistic.

Honestly i wouldn’t mind us using a 2nd on that guy. He has the talent to be special.

I'd put Kilgore in there somewhere

The only thing to watch in these camps is for new injuries, and how guys are responding from Injuries. These camps are for installs, and learning. Excelling in this part of camp never means anything. It’s nice to see if rookies come to off season stuff in shape, but everything else you see this time of year is fools gold.

Everyone is on the list but those are 5 good choices. That along with all the linemen. The guys up front need to be on the same page in order for everything else to work. It starts up front on both sides of the ball.

I agree for the most part but when you see a rookie continually making plays and being praised, that can be a good sign. It goes a long way to show how they are picking up on the new schemes. The install is going to be very important for guys like Gesicki and Fitzpatrick who are going to be counted on to start. Besides, we have NOTHING else going on in the NFL.
