Man I know Preseason games are important...we need to put all this new stuff to the test on the field....but again...5??? Man each game I get soooo scared of injuries....so many go down in preseason.....so many starters. I think all teams play 3 games...and thats it....what do you think?

I think it's a little good and bad. Bad for the reasons you mentioned and good for the extra game to install the new system on both sides of the ball.

I agree but I believe a lot of this problem lies with the owners wanting the revenue from the pre-season games. Until some big name players all get hurt in the same pre-season, I don't see this changing. I don't want to see anyone get hurt, but until it hits the owners in there pocket, it's going to stay the same.

The first game is like a scrimmage. The players have to start getting into game conditionning. Anyways it is good news for us to play 5 games because we are learning a new offensive and defensive scheme, and we need all the practice and game we can to get better.

I'm sure David Boston will love beating 2nd and 3rd stringers during the preseason to take out some rusts.

Yeah, I generally agree with you, but this year, there's a lot for the new staff to sort through in their own routines as well as sorting through player evaluations. I don't necessarily think 5 games is a bad thing *this* year. Any ordinary year, I'd agree without qualification.

It's a violent game without a doubt. The one thing that I worry about is a starter getting clocked by some young blood on the other team trying to make a name for himself, and make the team.

1st game starters play what? a series or two? waste....2 game...most of the 1st quarter maybe? then 3rd game is like almost a half....and last can either go a couple of series...or into the 3rd depending on the team....I say..this 3 games....1st game starters...go 1 quarter....2 and 3rd....a half....and thats it.

lets put it this way.....obviously i think they need the practice of a "game like situation" and every coach approaches preseason games differently.....so i am excited to see how Saban prepares for these 5 games....but come on do you really expect starters playin past the 8 minute mark next monday? i dont.

My proposal is to keep the 4 weeks of preseason. Each team plays two games. So you play a week, have a week off, and repeat. Preseason stays the same length, teams will get their games, and decreased chance of injury.
Just my thoughts.

This subject has been debated for years. How many preseason games should be played. If you are a veteran, who has been in the system for a while, you only need two maybe three games. If you are a rookie, you need as many games as it takes to learn the system in game-type situation.

There used to be six preseason games but now it's down to four. If you keep cutting the number of games, the chances of free agent surprises like Wes Welker making a team gets slimmer and slimmer.

We need the extra games to help gel the team together. Yes its a bit risky but the rewards could really pay off.
