The Philadelphia 76ers fired coach Jim O'Brien today, ESPN's Stephen A. Smith is reporting. Former Sixers star Maurice Cheeks will take over as new coach. The team is expected to announce the move later today.

They've coveted Mo Cheeks for a long time so this is not a surprise. He would have been coach when Ayers got the job but Portland wouldn't let him talk and the same thing when O'Brien was hired. Although I think it's shady business the Sixers have made is not secret they've wanted Cheeks and now that he was available they finally went and got their man!

Most of the players including AI and C-Webb hated O'Brien...he seems more like a Celtic coach than a Sixers coach...now we have an all-time Sixers great in Philly...as a long time fan I am very happy.:)
