790 Interview Jon Kitna on HC Adam Gase

Im slowly converting here

Play calling wise it sounds great but as the hc also theres a lot more to it...from roster and lockerroom management to motivation to evaluation to situational game and clock management

The latter of which killed dan campbell

The thing that blows me away is clock management is a lot like the 2 ot conversion. There is a known way to handle the clock for the most part. Seems like coaches try and get cute and it usually backfires. It is that issue or they get too caught in the action and lose their minds.

i think it's also the type of decisions that are so easily dissected from home....every situation is different even if the fundamental rules to follow are applied the same. coaches get bewildered out there...things move a lot faster on the sideline.

I really, really liked Dan Cambell, but most games we were never even in a spot for clock management to matter. He did screw up once or twice i agree though.

Just getting acquainted with the new guy....lukewarm so far listening to the man himself but for some reason trust the Owner, VP, and GM to know better at this point. Sounds like they found their guy.

Kitna is a pro's pro. Still in wait and see mode, but have liked some of the initial things that I've heard.

RT can either grow or hit the road. its a good thing

I know Kitna would not be so game, but can you imagine the upgrade he would be over Zac Taylor for QB coach

Jon Kitna is a really cool dude. He teaches high school now, and when Dallas called him up a couple of years ago for one game, he donated the game check to his school or something like that.

At this level, I expect any OC to be good to great at X's and O's. It the leadership both on the field and in the locker-room is more critical than most people realize.

Gase mentions Kitna and Mike Martz alot as big influences on him. So it seems like him and Jon were close.

If Kitna weren't a teacher would love to him him on the staff

Not really. Each time/score has a correct decision, which should be mapped out and digested well before you ever get a head coaching gig. Cracking in the moment/lazy ignorance is not a good excuse.
