If such a feat as finishing the season at 9-7 were to happen, there would have to be a lot of credit given to Dan and his newly promoted staff. Coach Dan has made some bold moves. He dismissed Coyle, and fired Lazor. He promoted Rizzi, Anarumo and Zac Taylor to see if they have it. He demoted Jamar Taylor and is trying fresh talent.

Do you keep him at 9-7 and see where he can get us next season, or is it still a given he goes.

My preference, even at 9-7, is an NFL HC to come in. The only caveat being we have no clue as to who Tbaum brings in.

This scenario has us missing the playoffs, but if it was 9-7 with a playoff appearance does it make a difference to you?

I love his effort, motivation and style but I think our record wont matter. I see the owner looking for a big name.

Agreed. Maybe if we won a playoff game he would keep Dan but I don't think at this point record matters. He wants to fill the seats so a big name would probably do that more than retaining DC

Yeah I agree ... even if he wins out, I believe Tannenbaum brings in his guy. As I've said before though, my hope is the FO thinks enough of DC's effort to offer him, or encourage the new HC to offer him a substantial role on the next staff.

Dan Campbell inherited a 1-3 record. So if Dan Campbell goes 8-4 (and ends up 9-7), then I certainly think he deserves the head coaching job.

If we get to 9-7. 8-8. or 7-9, I would keep him for another year and delay the total over haul until 2017.
Even if we go 7-9, Campbell' s record would be 6-5, which is better than we have had since 03 (apart from the Pennington year)..including Satan's years.
If we go 9-7, Campbell's record would be 8-3. You going to let that go?
We are all tired of losing, but we should not be hasty and give him a fair evaluation.

If the scenario is for Tannenbaum to bring in Mangina, I would rather have Campbell.
Payton looks like he is mentally ill, and I doubt that Baltimore's Harbaugh would come here.
That leaves the likes of Hue Jackson, and the other wannabee's.
Might be better to get him some better position coaches and some great assistants and roll with Campbell for another year.
In 2017, it will be decision time for some of the big contracts, and if 2016 is another failure, it would be the best time for a clean sweep.

Now, if we lose out for the remainder of 2015, Campbell is done and the sweep happens now. Mangina will be he next coach. It is inevitable that we become the Jets.

Depends on other options out there. If I were Ross my conversation would sound like this "Dan, the organization really appreciated how you stepped in, showed some leadership, and salvaged the season. With that said, we feel that for you to grow as a HC you could use some more experience with game management situations and in a few other areas. We would love to keep you on in this organization to get that experience in some capacity, but we will be going in a different direction at HC."

No... Dan seems like a decent guy, but this franchise should not be the place for on the job training anymore.

i wouldnt have a problem with it if he brings in established coordinators who can help him grow

He would have to be given strong consideration and at the very least be one of the final 2 or 3 candidates. What he needs to present in the off-season is his plan moving forward, his ideas of who he can bring in for his staff moving forward, his ideas on who he can win with regarding players, etc. That plan is what has to be accepted by Tbomb & Ross and the next coach, even if it's Campbell, should be given time to succeed.

Yes, I'd even consider him at 8-8. Would love to see him get a chance with his guys

Keep on mind that this team always does the opposite of what they should do. Till Ross sells the team we're doomed

Absolutely. And he should get it if they finish 8-8 . I dont trust Ross and/or Tannenbaum one little bit to run a coaching search. Ross has already proved to be a bumbling circus clown when doing so. And no proven coach will work under Tannenbaum. Add with the number of HC openings that will probably out there, and i just have no faith in our FO.

Just my two cents, but i'm inclined to give him serious consideration if they finish 7-9. With being handed a 1-3 team, injuries with no depth, having to fire both the DC and OC, Dan was basically given a pair of old hiking boots and asked to climb Mt. Everest. Sure, he has made some rookie mistakes, but if he ends up going 6-6 with that mess, id like to see what he could do with a full offseason and his own coordinators.

This is the key......

At the end of the day, it is about the offensive and defensive coordinators and who they will be. If you can assure me that we will get top flight NFL coordinators to run the offense and the defense and Dan Campbell goes 9-7 or even 8-8....then I would consider it, but that is the challenge with a first time interim coach.....does he have the contacts and reputation to attract the best coordinators possible.

If he can't bring in good coordinators, then no. We need the experience.

With all that, my first choice would be to bring in an experienced NFL coach, but if Campbell hits the 9-7 or 8-8 mark, he should be seriously considered.
