Bills 29..Dolphins 10

Just watched the `92 Bills Season in Review on NFL Network...man we looked bad losing that AFC Title game...and we were at home, no less! I`ll never forget Marino saying in SI, about his receivers: "Man, they just can`t get open!" Big loss as far as our rivalry goes with Buffalo.

I remember that game. Buffalo was only a 2 point favorite which looked really cheap. They burnt us with screen passes all day.

We probably would have been trounced in the Super Bowl. That young Dallas team was extraordinarily talented and jettisoned to a new level after they beat San Francisco on the road in the NFC title game.

My friend Jimmy was going big guns wagering on football that year, terrorizing the sportsbooks. He was convinced Dallas would massacre Buffalo and bet accordingly. Everyone remembers that Leon Lett/ Don Beebe play, but no one was affected like Jimmy. One of his bets was Dallas would win by 39 or more points, the highest point total they put a prop on. He got something like 50/1 odds, maybe more. Dallas was up 52-17 when that play unfolded. When Lett had the ball stripped, Jimmy slumped into a virtual catatonic state at the Caesar's Palace sportsbook. At dinner he wasn't celebrating at all, even though his girlfriend told us he made more than $150,000 on the game. We found out later the Don Beebe play cost Jimmy over $800,000. He had bet even more on the prop than any of us dared to speculate.

There's no probably about that, Dallas would have destroyed any AFC team. The AFC was brutally weak back then and Dallas was a great team.

I've always wondered how Miami would have done in that game against Dallas. I think some things to consider as to why Buffalo got beat so bad: 1) they just came off a 3 playoff game stretch, 2 on the road, 1 an emotionally draining game vs the Oilers(the comeback game); Miami played only 2 at home; 2) Having lost 2 Super Bowls already, Buffalo fell apart when things started to go wrong; Miami would not have had the shaky mental state based on past experiences as Buffalo did; 3) Jim Kelly went out early with an injury.
I'm not saying Miami would have beaten Dallas, but I don't think Miami would have gotten destroyed like Buffalo did. That game(I just re-watched it on tape 6 months ago, in fact) became a joke quickly once Dallas got hot. Some of the things that happened to Buffalo(INT's at the goal line by DT's for TD's, etc) were so bizarre they were comical. I would have loved to see what would have happened, though.

Miami would have also gotten throttled, it may not have been 52-17 but it wouldn't have been w/in 20 points.

Thats one we will not have on our Classic series.:shakeno:

I didn't know that the undefeated fins of the 70's was still playing in 92.

Probably the most depressing game I've ever watched. My parents had a day-long football party and everyone else there was a Bills fan, which didn't help matters. I remember Thurman Thomas looked like Jim Brown and Jerry Rice rolled into one that day. He was un-freakin-stoppable.

I had the honor of that being the first game I ever attended, It cost a fortune for airfare because it was less then 7 days notice, had to borrow money from everybody I knew at the time to have enough, the only hotel I could find turned out to be in a not so nice part of town, exact comment from the cab driver "You don't want to stay there" I told him it was already paid for, he then said "well it's not a bad hotel just don't go outside at all" .

I thought who cares I am going to see my Fins play for the first time and have a good chance of watching them advance to the Super Bowl, boy was I wrong.

I still remember the feeling walking into the stadium and seeing the field for the first time, the crowd was actully loud for that game(louder then I have heard them since). Too bad the game ended shortly after 1 quarter.

If they had to lose at least it could have been a good game.

Then to top it off the two guys we road with from the hotel got back with the players after the game and I had a chance to go with them and decided not to go, they met Marino and go to sit and talk with him for about 20 minutes.

Just not a good day.

Jeez, I thought I had it bad that day. That is probably the worst football experience I've heard...aside from that Bengals fan who got thrown to his death from the upper deck of Cleveland Municipal Stadium 30 years ago or so.

No, it wasn't that bad, not that I didn't feel like jumping.

I can remember that night in the hotel room when I finally fell asleep I left the TV on one of the news channels and all I heard was the news report replaying over and over about how the Fins lost the game.

We couldn't even go get anything to eat once we got back to the hotel because we didn't have a car and when I say it wasn't a nice neighborhood, I mean it wasn't a NICE NEIGHBOORHOOD. People say the area by the stadium isn't the best, well that was Beverly Hills compared to where this hotel was.

As bad as it was, I can't complain, at least I got to go to the game.

Now I usually stay on South Beach and then at the hotel right next to the stadium the night before the game, it's awesome waking up looking out the baclony doors and seeing the stadium right from your bed. It's the perfect way to start gameday.
