We all know that Campbell has has brought emotion and a seldom seen fire to our team, which is extremely welcome. However. according to Matthews and other players he was the one who inspired the team before he became HC. So why did the players not respond to him in the first four games?

Did Philbin talk the team down after Dan in pregame?

Did players not get pumped because he was not a HC?

Something else?

I actually thought of this question myself. I have to guess that a 2 minute rah-rah speech only goes so far. The mood and tone set through training cap, off-season activities, the practice week, can't be overcome by two minutes of fire and brimstone.

cuase the players were bitching about game plan which was probably demoralizing.

The three best performances we've had as a football team since 2012:

2014 vs San Diego
2015 vs Tennessee
2015 vs Houston

What do these three games have in common?

Joe Philbin wasn't involved with the gameplanning at all for any of those three games, nor did he run the practices.

bc although he may have spoken to them to fire them up they were still on philby's leash. They didnt like coming to work with Philby at the helm. Campbell makes them realize there is another notch they can go, and willingly at that..

The difference is the man in charge. Philbin is scentific proof that Hawking's theroy about black holes is correct. Nothing escapes their pull, just a dull mostly void area of space sucking up all that crosses their path.

I believe the team emulates the head coach. I also believe you can't play soft in practice and then just start hitting. They never had a "killer" mentality and always played not to lose. We mis-managed the way we use our players and didn't optimize their potentials. We also had a coach who was a very bad game manager with time outs and strategy. He had very little impact on changing or putting a thought into the minds of refs (too soft spoken).

Your spoiler alert is wrong.

Philbin only missed two days of practice that week. Yes, Philbin gave all the credit to his coaches for the game planning but don't think he didn't know what they came up with. It was pretty much what Coach Campbell did his first two weeks.

This is the biggest indictment of Philbin as a head coach. It seems clear now that he was handcuffing the team during preparation and with his input into game planning.

Other than motivation and instilling competitive spirit, the biggest improvement Campbell has made is freeing the coordinators (specifically Lazor) to do their jobs as they see fit. I really think Philbin was shackling Lazor and Tannehill.

What Campbell has brought to the team is a competitive and fun environment. Players often play in games the way they practice and that is what Coach Campbell has brought to the team. Compete hard in practice and you compete hard in games.

Coach Campbell has also made it fun to come to work and has the players playing for each other. You can see that during Jarvis Landry's first touchdown against the Texans when you had Albert, Pouncey and Turner running downfield to make blocks. You can also see in the defensive players on the sideline being excited about what the offense is doing.

They are playing like a team and not like a bunch of individuals and that is a credit to Coach Campbell.

it's hard to get motivated as a player, regardless of who is giving you the speeches, when you don't have confidence in the one who is master of the ship.....

I agree but, fault players more than Philbin in their lack of effort the first 4 games. I just believe that players should have more pride in their play even if Charlie Brown or Lucy is coaching. Should we add in a few hundred thousand to the multi million dollar contracts for a personal guy to pump them up? Landry did not seem to need one. Guess he is not making enough.

Can't argue with that but as it was already established, you often play the way you practice. Joe Philbin's practices were not known for being physical or even very competitive and it showed whenever the team played against physical teams like the Bills, the Jets and even the Jaguars.

I always notice Kenny Stills rooting for the defense like a crazy man on the sidelines

IDK, players were bitching and moaning the the practices were too tuff and took too much out of them before the change. Now, they welcome the tuff practices. Go figure.
