Everyone's bored in the present. So, let's take a look into the past.
This is some great info on Zonk, who many may know little about.

I was amazed to see that, as a first round pick, he signed a 3 year deal for $20K, $25K, $30K, and a $34K bonus plus a car.

Also, he looked like an injury prone bust.

Todays runningbacks for the most he makes look like a bunch of pansies.

Compared to Zonk bulldozers are pansies.

Dude was unreal. "The shortest distance between two points is a straight line." Zonk didn't juke. He just turned defenders into road kill. I pitied the fools who tried to tackle him.

Well, as you could figure out out, LC was my very favorite Dolphin - the epitome of what a real football player is, and should be.

I also remember his final season for the Dolphins....he actually drew a personal foul penalty for giving a forearm shiver to an approaching safety....just flattened him....it was the greatest play I have ever seen a running back...a-freak-ing amazing...... We need guys like Zonk in the game today........no one was ever tougher..

best part:
"Dolphins' offensive line coach Monte Clark was asked about Csonka's bruising running style, and he responded, "When Csonka goes on safari, the lions roll up their windows."

I think current Phins FB L Polite is more in the Csonka school of running than the shake and bake school. He's got a long way to go to catch up with 39.

not to knock Polite but the only thing I see him having in common with Czonka is that he plays fullback

I just seeing Polite playing the power game instead of the cut and run game. More old school than new school back. Short yardage he'll get the yards. I already said he's got a ways to be in the same ballpark as 39. 245 lbs and 6 ft vs Csonka's 6' 3" 235. Not that dissimilar a build. Doesn't punish like Zonk did. You need to move up to road graders to get that level of pain.

I have only seen one other back that punished defenders like Czonk did and that was Earl Campbell, who could beat you to death with his calves lol

I heard of an Earl Campbell connection to the current Dolphins: evidently Ricky Williams is friends to Earl, has seen the physical wreck Earl is now after his NFL days, and didn't want to be used as a human battering ram by Wannstead. One thought as to why Ricky quit that year. Anyone else heard that story?

Earl would put a hurt on you.

i remember a game earl campbell put a real whuppin on us. i imagine polite would've done quite well in csonka's era though unlikely his equal.

Jim Brown. He said something like I give more than receive on tackles. Jim Taylor was another.

Putting Polite in the same sentence as Csonka is an insult to Csonka. Csonka is in a class by himself. Csonka is pretty much the standard bearer for FB's.

Ya gotta remember that the guys Zonk was punishing were a whole lot smaller than today's guys, as were the guys blocking for him. A 300 pound guy was a novelty. This may have led to the demise of the FB position.

Zonk and Shula have to love Polite. He was like 8 for 8 in 3rd or 4th and short.

With all the comotion on the Wild Cat and/or Wild Pat, watch Henning re-invent the FB position by giving Polite some carries. He will be a Pro Bowler.
