we are only 2 games in, there's not much we can take out of it and the jets #s are really skewed b/c they took their foot off the gas pedal against Buffalo when the game was over early. They didn't force us to punt until the game was long over and they didn't start scoring until the game was long over.

A sample size of 2 is not really significant enough, so the figures are interesting without being very useful - like a lot of stuff on this forum (including 99% of my own posts)!

I think the Jets an Phins match up well this week. We have different strengths, but I don't see too many advantages for either team either way. Especially if Revis doesn't play.

I think it's FAR to early in the season to make definitive conclusions about either team.

But this game is HUGE. Division implications.

I keep saying this game will be decided in the trenches because"

1. Pass protection will determine QBs effectiveness (obviously)
2 Who ever owns the line of scrimmage and establishes a running game wins IMO
3 Weak Db deficiencies can be assisted by a strong pass rush.

Also I think this will be a HUGE game for TEs and LBs. Whoever wins that battle will control TOP, and score points.

With all the smack talk that circulates around this game, I don't know how anyone can feel too sure on either side of the ball.

How many receptions do Daniel Thomas and Jorvorski Lane have? 1 or 2?

Miller has played one game...I wouldn't call that an "average per game" stat.

A little skewed on some of your stats.

Well maybe it wasn't too interesting

I liked it :) But at this point in the season, you can't read too much into those numbers. The samples are too small. I'm guessing you know that.

Fitzpatrick gave the Jets that game, sorry to have to be the one to inform you of that. A slightly different story in Pittsburgh, wasn't it?

Hmm, then what would YOU call it, "AVERAGE PER 4 QUARTERS" ?? It is what it is, not his fault he has only played one game!!

I think the two big keys to the game that you left out are:

1. TURNOVERS. This is always a big one, but with these two teams having trouble moving the ball and playing field position, and defense, I think whoever wins the turnover battle wins the game. I can't really see either team losing the turnover battle and still finding enough offense to win vs the other defense, unless it is a meaningless turnover at the end of a half.

2. SPECIAL TEAMS/FIELD POSITION: Our special teams have been really SPECIAL this year. Our coverage on kicks and our solid returns have had huge impacts on both games. I think if we continue with great ST play it will go a long way in winning the field position battle, and possibly winning the game.

I really like Thigpen as a punt returner. With the exception of one play (which seemed to be play designed to get to the edge), he makes one cut and gets up field. In terms of his approach to the position, he's a lot like Bess, but he has the speed to take a kick to the house. We're destined to be in some close games this year (we run the ball, stop the run, play good RZ D), and he might win us a game or two.

I like Thiggy as well but if you noticed any punt we fielded deep in our territory Bess was back there.

Mr reliable vs game breaker i quess.

so we didn't confuse him and force them into those TOs, huh? Fitz gave us the game, it was nice of him to do that.

We were missing the best defensive player in the game against a great group of WRs, that may have had an impact and our O didn't play nearly as well as the week before yet we had a chance.

Excellent observation. I noticed it too, but didn't see the reasoning at the time. Makes a ton of sense. I'm glad we're ANTICIPATING issues, rather than waiting for something bad to happen before we FIX them. Attention to detail . . . :ponder:
