Hey guys, just had a few questions regarding Miami's chances to make the playoffs and was wondering if anyone knew 100% the answers.

1. If the Jets lose tomorrow and we lose to Kansas City, does the final game against the Jets still decide the division?

2. If the Dolphins and the Jets both go 1-1 in their final 2 games, and the Patriots go 2-0, don't the Patriots win the AFC East?

3. If we lose tomorrow but the Jets win are we eliminated from winning the division?

4. On the flip side, if the Jets lose tomorrow but we win, does it still come down to the final game of the season to decide it? Do the Jets own the tiebreaker against us no matter what if us and the Jests both finish with the same record?? (10-6)

Thanks in advance to any answers to these questions, and any more scenarios anyone can provide in regards to our playoff outlook (including the patriots chances etc)

1. If Miami loses to KC and the Jets lose to Seattle, Miami would have to beat the Jets and have NE lose to either the Cardinals or the Bills.

2. Yes the Pats will win the division if they win out and the Jets and Dolphins lose at least one game each. NE would be 11-5 and Miami and NY would both be at 10-6.

3. No, if we lose to KC and beat the Jets next week we can still win the division, but we would need NE to lose to either the Cardinals or the Bills.

4. Yes it does. If we beat KC and the Jets lose to the Seahawks, we would still have to win in NY to win the division. The Jets would hold the tie-breaker over us in this scenario because of head to head record. If the Pats lose either of their two remaining games in this scenario, then the Jets win the division.

We can't win a Wild Card spot because of the Ravens win last night. Even if the Ravens lose next week they hold the tie-breaker over us if we both finish 10-6. New England can win a Wild Crad spot if they win out and either Miami or the Jets go 11-5 and the Ravens lose to the Jaguars. The Ravens control their own destiny and make the playoffs as the #6 seed with a win over the Jags, even if the Pats go 11-5.

Hope that helps. GO PHINS!

thanks for clearing that up for me, just one question about the 3'rd one, I was asking if we lose tomorrow but the jets WIN tomorrow, wouldn't that eliminate us from division chances?

the answer was yes to all.

we want to win out...if we dont

we want the pats to lose 1 game

period.

oh and we MUST beat the jets,

period.

1. If the Jets lose tomorrow and we lose to Kansas City, does the final game against the Jets still decide the division?

Depends on what the Pats do tomorrow and next week.

2. If the Dolphins and the Jets both go 1-1 in their final 2 games, and the Patriots go 2-0, don't the Patriots win the AFC East?

Yes.

3. If we lose tomorrow but the Jets win are we eliminated from winning the division?

No.

4. On the flip side, if the Jets lose tomorrow but we win, does it still come down to the final game of the season to decide it? Do the Jets own the tiebreaker against us no matter what if us and the Jests both finish with the same record?? (10-6)

The winner of the Jets-Fins game finishes ahead of the loser in the final division standings, no matter what happens this week.

thank you again for the responses, so question #3 is still a possibility for us?

It would make us 9-6, the Jets 10-5, and then if we beat them in the final game we both finish 10-6, but we would own the tie-breaker in that situation? that would be sweet. Oh and also the Pats would have to lose one game for that to work out too right?

And if all 3 of us finish 10-6 with Miami winning against the Jets but losing to the chiefs, would Miami hold the tiebreaker against both the Jets and the Pats?

thanks again in advance for your knowledge and info.

Basically, if we win against the Jets and the Pats lose one of two, we win the division. The KC game only matters if the Pats win out. We cannot be eliminated today.

1. It only decides the division if the Pats lose to Arizona or Buffalo.

2. Yes, Pats would have the better record being that all 3 teams are tied.

3. We cannot clinch or be eliminated this week, no matter what the results are, but we would need a Pats loss in the event we lost to the Chiefs if we still want to control our own destiny.

4. We HAVE to beat the Jets!! The Jets game today is meaningless as far as Miami's playoff chances are concerned. The only way for Miami to win the division at 10-6 is to lose today and win Sunday and have the Patriots lose one of their final 2 games. So if u want to win the division at 10-6, u pretty much are saying u want them to lose today, because they can't lose next Sunday.

I'll tell u like this, I hope Miami and the Jets win today . . . that would eliminate the Patriots (well actually it wouldn't because they still would factor in that the game next week could end in a tie) . . . and then u would have WAR next Sunday night for the AFC East title (u don't think the NFL will pass up a divisional title and heated rivalry with the biggest storylilne of the year . . . to watch the COWGIRLS again . . . do u?)

thanks for clearing that up for me, just one question about the 3'rd one, I was asking if we lose tomorrow but the jets WIN tomorrow, wouldn't that eliminate us from division chances?
No it would not. If we beat the Jets the next week then we would be 10-6 as would the Jets. We would both be 1-1 in head to head and both be 4-2 in the division. We would then hold an advantage over the Jets in best win % in common games. These games include our win % versus the AFC East, AFC West, and NFC West. We hold an advantage in this catagory over the Jets and Pats. Here's a breakdown:

As of right now in those games Miami is 9-3 in those games.
NE is also 9-3 in those games. NY is 7-5 in those games.

If we all finish at 10-6 (with our last win against the Jets) we would then have the tie-breaker over the Jets in a three way tie-breaker format and the tie over the Pats with a division record (assuming the Pats lose to the Bills) and a tie-breaker over the Pats by strength of victory (asumming the Pats lose to the Cards and beat the Bills). Hope that helps.

Thank you guys much for all the info, this has cleared a lot up for me.

One last question I have

5. There is no possible scenario that Miami wins the division without beating the Jets in the final game correct? (was just thinking if the Jests lose tomorrow but we win, then we lose to them the final game we would have identical records, but they would have the tie-breaker due to better divisional record right?)

Thanks again guys ..... I appreciate the late-night responses.

7 hours till kickoff!!!!!!!!!!!!

We lose to the Jets and we don't get in the playoffs no matter what. The Jets game is an absolute must win to even have a chance to win the division.

To confuse u even more, if the Jets lose today and the Pats lose one of the final 2 games . . . and we win against KC . . . we could TIE the Jets game, and win the division. That is about as close as you are going to get to not beating the Jets and still winning the divsion lol.

LOL !!! nice didn't even think about that, I know it's an extremely tiny chance that happens but it's still cool to have some kind of scenarios in our back pocket even though they are really rare =p

Of course I'm hoping we just win out and handle business, but I'm really glad you guys cleared up all the other scenarios.

GO FINS at the absolute WORST we have already clinched a winning record this season!!!!!!! I can barely believe I'm typing that after what happened last year! What a freaking turnaround!!!! HELL YAH!!!!!
