Let's say that Dan Marino decides to come out of retirement out of the blue and play another year. (YES I KNOW THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN, ITS PURELY HYPOTHETICAL). Has there ever been a case of someone inducted into the hall of fame returning to football? I am sure there will also be an issue because his number was already retired. Michael Jordan had the same problem when he returned the first time.

Obviously this is never ever going to happen, but as a fan its fun to think about :). Hell even Steve Young mentioned that he often thought of it.

And the funny thing is, Marino at his age would probably be an UPGRADE over the "QBs" we have right now

its an interesting point... i honestly have no idea.

it would be good to see dan back tho :D

I'm not sure about a player but I do know a little about Bill Parcells situation.

Bill was scheduled for induction when all the talk of coming back to coach (for TB at the time) popped up. I know that they decided to wait which in turns means they will have to revote on the matter. Now that I think about it, it wasn't induction he was scheduled for it was being placed on the ballot (although everyone at time talked about him being a 1st ballot guy).

That's about all I've ever heard regarding the HOF and coming back...and that was just about a coach...Of course they DID induct Joe Gibbs and he came back (and they did NOT take him out of the HOF, He's still in)...once again though its about a coach and not a player.

Of interesting note on Parcells...since he wasn't voted in yet and eveyone talked about him being a 1st ballot coach, Do you tink he is still a 1st ballot guy? Or has he hurt his chances of not getting in until later because of the way the Cowboys have struggled?

Personally, I don't think he's a 1st ballot guy anymore (if he was before) since he's struggled the the Cowboys. Now if he takes them to the SB before he retires (which sounds like it'll have to be in the next year or two) win or lose, I think he's a shoe-in. IMO. I'm not a fan of his but you can't keep him out if he takes another team to the SB, that'd make what, 4?

If Dan wanted to comeback the HOF wouldn't be an issue. Jordan didn't have an issue with his number being retired. He took 45 because it was a tribute to his recently departed father.

I have to say I was almost moved to tears on Sunday. I was a Dan Marino fan before I was a football fan. I think today was the first that I realized he was really gone from the game.
