One thing that I haven't seen discussed that much is the level of intensity on the hitting -- re: the effect it has on teams overall. When teams play a very intense game, getting hit all across the board, it generally affects their next game. Half of their players get 'nicked' in such a hard hitting game.
If anything shows the new Phins it is this hard hitting, this intensity. People were getting blown up all game, both ways. But the Phins gave as good as they got, and this was against supposedly the "Ravens of the East," the new "most physical D" in the AFC.
Cobbs got blown up, gone for the season. That's gonna hurt the Phins at least short term. Lotsa players got nicked, including Ricky.
Thankfully, a by week to recuperate. But how much does playing such a hard hitting team affect us going forward? And playing them twice a season?
Now, to turn it around: how much does playing the Phins hurt the Jets physically? Mentally?
Did we win the battle of physical play? I want to say YES. Yes we did. And this is one reason why the Wildcat chapped their a**. It was a power formation crammed down their throat, and they knew it was coming. No gimmick. No surprise. On film. They got what was advertised and got hit doing it. And lost.
Body shots. Body shots. Knock out: Game winning TD as advertised. And the most physical D had to sit and take it. 413 yards of domination.
