Hey everyone,

First of all, this is a semi long read. If you want to judge my thoughts, at least read the whole d*** thing before posting.

With that said, I've been on the Tannehill bandwagon ever since he was drafted. Since that day I have stayed positive, for the most part, and supported the team's direction with him under center and the system moving forward. However, I can't help but get defensive when I see people bashing the best QB we have had since Marino. Now that is both subjective and not exactly saying for a lot. We haven't had a solid QB to build around since Marino left and that has done a lot to the standard we will hold whoever it is under center to. Nothing ever seems to be good enough for this fan base. Now that doesn't mean settling for mediocrity but in terms of the QB situation, I think we are far from that.

I've mentioned it before and I use the comparison of having a gambler's mentality. You win $50 at the casino and that mindset of having $100 is way better than having $50. You lay it down on black and red hits. Now you get to walk out with empty pockets trying to figure out why you laid down the $50 and didn't just walk out.

You hit a QB in Tannehill with a solid foundation to build around, but he doesn't have all the options so why not roll the dice for one who does? That's the mentality that has gotten us to where we are. The thought that something is always better around the corner. The next cog to be placed in the machine is what will make it run smoothly. I'm all for the thought of competition, however, does anyone really think that there is anything out there better than Tannehill?

If you do, the revolving door keeps going in full motion and we wonder why this team can never deliver the consistency the fans demand. I'm just curious as to why so many are so quick to throw Ryan Tannehill under the bus after not having a QB we could feel good about for so long. It's like never having a car at all then you get a car and then whine that the AC doesn't work.

He struggles on the deep ball. That's not anything that any level minded fan with common sense could truthfully deny. That is asking a lot in itself from this fan base. However, for fans to simply think that it is as simple as letting it fly down field is silly in the highest regard. The only way Ryan has time to connect on a deep ball is to throw on the move to Wallace because he is the only one they send deep and that is the only way he has the time to do so. There are not enough variables to place the blame for the inability to hit deep on Tannehill solely as some do. Wallace doesn't seem to want to exert the effort to go after any passes. I have seen him try to make one handed catches, stop on routes, not fight for contested balls, not layout for passes, etc. Just as many of you demand Tannehill try to throw deep, it is only right to ask Wallace to do his part. Whether or not he actualy does have the catch radius of a tyrannosaurus rex is up for you all to debate, not me lol.

Now back to Ryan. This season I have seen and read through everything that this roller-coaster has presented us with thus far. The struggling in the beginning to the current situation we are sitting in now at 7-6. Tannehill is on pace to improve career stats across the board. He has improved his short range accuracy, I'm sure by now you and your mother have heard this because it is the only thing he can do apparently according to some and they like to throw it in any face willing to listen. People want to act like he never passes for anything greater than 5 yards.

Ryan has also made countless passes over 10 and 15 yards but it doesn't matter because he hasn't hit deep. It's amazing to me that the pass to Wallace today against Baltimore has already been forgotten. Whether it was called back or not, the pass was made. Not only that but the 50 yard pass he completed to Wallace is no where to be found showing his ability to throw the bomb. The deep passes he has made to Hartline in the past are totally forgotten. People don't even look to see that Ryan actually has the arm to throw deep. However, timing is the issue and timing is only developed by practice by calling it in games which never happens.

Here's my main point. If he moves the chains, what is the problem? We have been to the red zone more than any other team. Tannehill's amazing short range laser ability to fit passes into tight windows is something not all QBs have and he has proven it time and time again. That pass to Hartline today was the definition of a big time throw into tight coverage.

He is a top 15 QB whether you agree or disagree with it doesn't really matter. His completion percentage is only a portion of why he is where he is. He has greatly improved his TD/INT ratio to above 2:1 and other areas of his game. Each year despite whatever controversy he has elevated his game which is what you want to see. At what point is that not enough? Keep in mind this is all with a new offense.

Is he elite? No, not yet. Is he a bust? Not by a mile. Are there areas that need improvement? Absolutely. Is there enough of a foundation to win a SB with? Yes

Will I get burned for being an idiotic homer who knows nothing about football and my support for Tannehill is what's wrong with this country along with sagging pants and Justin Beiber? Possibly...

This is probably nothing but a lot of whining, crying, excuse making for a mediocre QB who doesn't deserve to hand people their coffee at Starbucks, but for all the meaningless BS I have read across this board and others, placing my thoughts into a thread shouldn't be that much to deal with. So deal with it.

Phins Up!

I'm on board with RT. I wasn't sold on him until about halfway into the season, but he's improved tremendously in almost all areas (accuracy, bouncing back after being hit, etc.) except the deep throws. I now feel optimistic he'll get better at that, as well as some judgment issues. My jaw dropped on his TD pass against the Ravens. Probably shouldn't have thrown it, but to have the arm to get it into a tight window like that, and he's done that other times in the past eight or so games.

I now think he's worth building around.

I agree with your assessment.
Since taking over the starting job, Rt has not had a solid oline.
It is evident in every game that the center of the oline collapses while the pass rushers loop around our tackles.
RT doesn't have the time to throw on a regular basis. Now and then the line holds or he is able to side step the rush to get another second, and the ball is either slightly off, or Wallace cannot adjust to it.
It is a little bit of both on those missed connections. RT is doing the best he can under duress and Wallace is unwilling or unable to extend or adjust to the ball.
Fixing the oline will go a long way to helping RT get the passes on the right trajectory and I believe he has the accuracy. Getting him another deep threat to replace Wallace should be a priority.
If i were to point the finger, it would be at Wallace. He had some chances, and he has dropped balls that were inches away. He is not worth the money. At this point he is not even a good decoy, because RT has no time to throw. The types of routes he is successful at, any receiver could do.

I'm also all in with RT as our future.. His upside is tremendous. I think he's a totally different QB, when someday he'll have an Oline to let him be all he can be..

RT needs a big RB like Beast mode and two real G's. Not ones who are Tackles trying to become a G.

I dont care if Carrot Top is back there if he can produce wins but RT does not see the whole field like the elite QB's do. If you watch the top tier Guys...the Big Bens,Mannings,Brady & the like they do not get locked down on one guy...they hardly ever check-down and throw short on 3rd down & 6.

Will he get it one day? I hope...no need in me stressing about it because one thing Chad Henne time here taught me for sure, It will have to run its course and no amount of whining on my part will matter.

RT17...God bless him and may he one day become the QB we all love to love

I agree and think QB is the last position we need to be looking to the draft of FA for. It took me to this year to buy in on Tannehill but I have. The injuries have exposed how badly Joe Philbins preparedness is. The Ravens had practice squad guys out there and it didn't matter. When guys go down in NE, does belicheat miss a beat? Our coach sucks and he's the reason we are in this situation. He can't get out of here fast enough and he can take all those defensive time outs with him. Tannehill has improved immensely and is incredibly smart and talented.

It's always quickest to point the finger at the QB. Sure Tannehill has to take some of the blame for taking sacks instead of throwing the ball away, but there's enough to work with that we can win with him as our QB. Last year we all said that a new OC would do wonders for him and it did. I wonder what a new HC can bring out of him...

The dude doesn't just miss downfield, he misses by a lot. And he takes sacks when he needs to get rid of the ball. And lastly he simply is not clutch. Here we are at the end of the game needing some big wins yet again, and yet again his play the last two games has been awful. He comes up small when it matters most, that above all is the problem. Obviously he'll get another season next year at this point with no better options. But he's hardly proved he deserves an extension. I've been on the Tannehill bandwagon since day one up until this season. Wake up. The kid has a lot of issues to fix. Is he still growing? I hope so, because his flaws are becoming a repeated behavior.

Here is the thing, I've been labeled a "homer" or a "apologetic" at times but the truth is simple, I am by nature a 100% thorough guy. I like to know with certainty that something is or isn't going to work before I discard it. The success metric of whether or not something is going to work changes based upon the importance of the item (non-working Christmas lights are not going to get the same attention as my car).

With the QB position and the cluster-**** that has been since Marino I know I see enough in Tannehill to know the time isn't right to move on from him. Simply put he isn't the reason we are losing games but at the same time I will concede that he also isn't winning big games for Miami on a constant basis. The next thing I need to see from Tannehill is the Marino attitude, the attitude of "hey if my defense wins this game that's great but I know I can't affect that so I'm ready to win it myself". That's what makes a great QB great, not deep balls or quick slants, the ability to carry a team to a tough win no matter what happens on the other end of the ball. The true greats have it and the average don't.

I'm not ready to give up on Ryan but I also like to be prepared, Matt Moore is gone either way this off season so the time is right to take a QB again, not in the 1st round but maybe in the 3rd. It gives the nod to Ryan that "hey you are still our guy but we also expect continued improvement or...."

If that makes me a homer so be it but I think that makes me neutral at this point, willing to say that I want to see more but at the same time I need to see better even beyond what has already been shown.

Whether you think Tannehill is the answer or not, it's irrelevant because there is no better option for next year. He will get a fourth season.

Sure seems that way. I find it interesting that since Dallas has solidified their OLine everyone there is 'smart' all off a sudden. You don't hear anyone complaining about their HC and Romo.

I see Tannehill as potentially being a good game manager. Personally, I'd trade him now before he wants a huge contract. However, I realize that he'll probably be back next season, and hopefully he'll have to compete for the starting job. (Just not with Moore; I like him less than Tannehill.) IMO, for Tannehill to be any good he's going to need a big, dominating o-line and a strong running game, but this will never happen under Philbin and his offensive philosophy. I just hope that the next coaching staff recognizes the importance of having (and using) a good running game and making sure that the o-line is good enough to give the QB time to throw downfield. Philbin's over-emphasis on the short passing game means that he's not concerned about having the line block too long because the ball is supposed to be out of the QB's hand almost immediately. (Which is why Miami fans rarely see any big plays or long TD passes from this team.) Tannehill needs more time to survey the field, but Philbin's offense won't accommodate him.

It sounds like I'm defending Tannehill there... damn that Philbin!
