I too hope AJ wins the job, but if he isn't the starter on opening day, then I think he'll never make it. I say that because he'll get every chance to win the job, he's younger with fresher legs and a fresher arm, plus he is a big investment from a cap point of view. I believe Saban wants AJ to be the starter, and will be somewhat disappointed if Frerotte wins the training camp battle. Yeah, I know Frerotte knows the system, but AJ can overcome that with hard work.
Additionally, if he isn't the starter for the first game, that means he didn't rise to the challenge. He knows its make or break, and he really has to prove himself to be a QB in this league. There is nothing stopping him from succeeding. There's no Wanny stunting his growth and confidence, no bickering among the coaches, no dearth at the RB position, and no idiot coaching our O-line. It's his time, and if he ain't starting on opening day, then I believe Saban simply believes he doesn't have the mental capabability to be a QB in the NFL.
