Deservingly most of the blame for Dolphins scoring 20 points less in the past 3 games goes to Lucas. As I agree with where to place most of the blame, I don't think you can let Norv go blameless. In trying to game plan to help Ray play mistake free, he has taken all the octaine out of our big play makers. I also feel that he is making it easyier for Ray not to kill us he is giveing him no chance to sucseed.

To help the struggleing running game we have to be able to stretch the feild. This should be relitivly easy with McMichael and Chambers on the feild. We need to use some motion and stretch the D freeing up either 1 of those guys in man coverage, and then just throw it deep and let them go get it. They both have proven that if you put the ball near them they will atleast get a hand on it to break up the int, but most times make an acrobatic catch. This is also Ray's strongest pass. It may be his only things he is good at, so why not give it atleast 5 tries a game. We can not expect this offense to go 15 plays to score with these short passes, and unimaginitive running plays. Yes it could cost us with a turnover, but we have already proven we will do that regaurdless, and can't score with out taking chances.

Big "D", I would like too agree with you, but Ray Lucas can't even hand the ball off to a RB correctly without making a "mistake" (3 fumbles handing off the ball in 3 games.) So mistake free football with Ray Lucas is llike an oxy-moron any way you look at it. Stetching the Field would mean Ray would have to stop throwing to the ground and start throwing it up in the air. I just hope we can win 2 out of the next 3 games so at least we have a shot at doing something to make the playoffs.

Actually I disagree I don't think Turner has dumbed down the offense ENOUGH for Ray Lucas. He probably needs to feed him the game plan incrementally so that he can digest it. Then, at times (perhaps even most of the time) he needs to shut down half of the field so that there isn't so much in Lucas' head to confuse him.

Its obvious that he's out there and has too much to think about so he's forgetting the fundamentals....even how to correctly hand the damned ball off. This would explain why he's sucking during games and not during practice. In practice you get to isolate parts of the game. In a game it has to all come together...kinda like taking a test.

Dumbing down the offense and shutting down half the field so his natural abilities (strong-arm, fast legs) can shine are the things that made him successful in NY when he came in for Mirer.

Good point, but I stil think throwing the ball deep would be the easiest thing for him to do. It isn't like he has to read the defense, or escape preasure, just take 5 steps backward and throw it up in the general direction of CC or Randy. We are turning the ball over any way, so at least with that pass it would travel 30-50 yards, so it is quite similar to a punt. If it isn't intercepted maybe they can make a play and score some points. If we hit on 20% of these plays we would score more than 10 points. Not to mention if you connect on 1 the d will have to remember CC is in the game, and ease up on RW. I know I am over simplifying things, but we have thrown the ball 1 time in the past 3 weeks over 20 yards. Norv's offense has always supported their running game by taking some shots deep to keep the D honest. If I am on the line and see 2 safetys playing with in 5 yards of the line, and see CC lined up 1-1 with no deep help I would start drooling and I doubt I could throw a ball over 40 yards if that. Ray although isn't a very good one he is a NFL QB, so I would assume he could give CC a chance to make a play on a deep ball.

Yeah but dumbing down the offense doesn't mean you can't throw the ball deep. I'm saying don't give him an option. You line up RW in the backfeild, 3 wrs, and a TE, and tell him no matter what he sees to take 5 steps back and toss it to CC on a fly or post pattern. At this point there is no doubt that the safetys will bite on RW or the underneath passing game, so CC will be isolated with the corner. I like that match up no matter who is my QB. At this point we are damned if we do, so why not try?

But deep passes have the lowest completion percentage and highest interception rate. Deep passes are high risk.

The easiest plays for a QB are: handoff and dump off passes. Ray has to learn those first.

I guess there was some truth to it that Lucas was not the brightest bulb when it came to playbooks.

I would think running the ball against 9 man fronts would be the highest risk, or passing short when no one on the defense is further than 5 yards off the LOS.

We all have good points here, BUT this wouldn't be a problem what-so-ever if Ray Lucas didn't suck so bad. Not to beat a dead horse or anything, but I just had to add that! []D [] /\/\ []D!!

It's pretty pathetic, but we HAVE been calling deep passes. With the well below average level of OL play and Ray's over-excitability they are just not getting executed. I think I read somewhere that we had 5 or 6 deep balls called last week, only one of which was thrown (to a Jets player).

I read that 2, but you have to wonder how much Dave was just saying that to elude the question of why he isn't putting the ball down feild to help Ricky. If that is the case, and they were called that is what needs to be worked on in practice this week. If we don't take our chances down feild the safetys will never move back, and Ricky won't get a chance to carry this team.

DaJesus has a point. 2 of Ray's best looking throws came on deep balls. Roll him out there and throw it deep. Can't be any worse then fumbling on the 2 or the constant 3 and outs. At the very least it will give Ricky a touch more room to run.

Roll out, hit Chambers deep! Roll out, hit McMicheals coming across the middle! Roll out, hit Ricky or Edwards on the screen going the other way! Roll out, tuck it, and take off! Good God Norv, get this guy movin'. The problem is Ray has no confidence in that horrible O-line of ours, and who can blame him! Take advantage of the whole field, open some running lanes, get a victory, get the winning momentum going into the playoffs!

lUCAS HAS TO THROW DEEP NEEDS TO DO THIS ATLEAST TWICE A GAME TO GET ATLEAST ONE DEFENDER OFF OF rICKY

Supposedly Lucas did not feel comfortable throwing the deep pass last week even though there 5 or so called so he checked off to the underneath guy. I felt our game plan for GB and Jets was OK and concieved with the idea that we can win a low scoring game if we did not turn the ball over. That is what our game plan will be with a minor league QB until Jay is healthy. It is a sounds stratefy when you have a great D and STs to go w/Ricky.

As far as particulars on O, I am baffled why Lucas is not given more run-pass rollout options. He should be faking to Ricky going left and rolling right w/McM or CC running deep. Other than that, Norv just needs to keep letting Lucas throw that short pass to Ricky, McKnight, CC or McM on 1st down as often as possible and we all need to pray (if you are so inclined) or hold our breath that we can actually have a sustained drive. Or even better maybe we'll get some takeaways.

I love being right! Did you notice on our first TD drive Ray dropped back, and didn't think about throwing it do any one besides Randy on the first big play, and then CC on the 2nd big play of the drive. On the 2nd drive he had another 2 big passes that it was decided in the huddle to throw long to CC. That is all he needs to do throw the ball how it is drawn up. He looks great when he throws the ball deep, it is when he has to make descions that his game falls apart.

Also please take note of the fact that they threw the ball past 20 yards at least 5 times. They hit a few, and just missed another 1 or 2, but the main thing was that the defense had to think about it. Then the running game started to open up, as well as the short passing game.
