In a naming contest when team founded in 1965, 622 entrants submitted "dolphins," common in area waters. Owner Joe Robbie called dolphin "one of the fastest and smartest creatures in the sea." Also suggested: Mariners, Marauders, Mustangs, Missiles, Moons, Sharks, Suns.

I always liked the nickname Sharks. Would've fit us fine and sounds way tougher than a Dolphin, but what can you do. I don't care about a team's name. I care about the rest
